Looks like the Chinese have got their Gestapo practices down pat:

China apologizes for police beating of foreign journalists

By Tim Johnson, McClatchy Newspapers
Tue Aug 5, 10:39 AM ET

KASHGAR, China \ As tens of thousands of foreign journalists arrive to test China's pledges to respect media freedom during the Olympic Games, the nation offered apologies Tuesday for the beatings that police gave two Japanese journalists who were covering a deadly assault by Muslim separatists.

Paramilitary police kicked and beat the journalists, throwing one to the ground, putting boots to his head and body, and damaging his photo gear.

In a separate incident, police entered the hotel room of an Agence France Presse photographer and forced him to delete photos of the attack scene, the French agency said.

The treatment drew sharp protests from the government of Japan , and Japan's Embassy in Beijing said in a statement that the Foreign Ministry had written a letter expressing regret for the incident.

Gimme a fuggin' break already....

JetBlue charging $7 for pillow, blanket kit

Wednesday 06th August

NEW YORK —
JetBlue Airways Corp is now charging customers for pillows and blankets. The carrier has done away with the recycled blankets and pillows used on its flights, and has started offering an geco-friendlyh travel blanket and pillow that can be purchased for $7 on flights longer than two hours. The pair come in a kit with a $5 coupon to home furnishings retailer Bed Bath & Beyond.

The carrier claims the pillow and blanket feature a fabric technology, developed by CleanBrands LLC, that blocks pesky critters like dust mites, mold spores, pollen and pet dander.

JetBlue already offers free gSnooze Kitsh on overnight flights from the West that include an eyeshade and ear plugs.

But the blanket and pillow kit is the latest in a string of a la carte items the company says are providing a revenue boost to help offset the soaring price of jet fuel.

A JetBlue spokeswoman declined to predict how much the sale of these kits will bring in, saying that the company only provides revenue details for specific items in its quarterly earnings conference calls.

The carrier said last month it expects to collect about $40 million from customers buying seats with extra leg room this year. Its $15 fee for a second checked bag is expected to translate into about $20 million in additional revenue. A ticket change fee, which doubled to $100 in the second quarter, is part of a gbasket of fee changesh expected to produce about $50 million in extra revenue in 2008.

Haha, I read that quote, but I didn't think of it that way till you pointed it out. rofl

Today was amusing--this man in his 60's came in and he reminded me a lot of Kohinata Fumiyo. Very adorable and huggable. I was smiling like an idiot when he was talking with his amusing accent. Smile

Ridiculous.... Pay toilets can't be too far away.

They should just be honest and raise the fare rates because of the fuel prices and not nickel-and-dime everyone to death... That's just gonna bring about resentment. Shake Head

Maybe they'll start charging people for every two sheets of toilet paper that they use as well.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Those TV commercials where they spoof airlines charging for every single thing is becoming a reality... Sweat
