@KendoYuki : demo....there's another exception where jun chan wrote LA FAMILIA for his 2004 solo....i think if they had the time...they might be able to write their own lyrics... but i agree w/ vio nee chan, most pop singers/groups don't write their own songs.

Second question... is it normal for guys in japan to randomly touch each other (like that avatar of Ohno grabbing Nino's bum in a concert [sorry don't remember who's avatar it was ]) ?
Third question is about the topic being discussed here currently... what exactly is it about Johnny's group that scares you guys/you haven't gotten used to? (I'm only really familiar with Arashi)... like what is it that's so odd about them? I'm curious.
Sorry for my baka-ness
Something to add to the answers to KendoYuki's questions.
#1: Already been answered so...
#2: I think the way Arashi plays around together, grabbing and occasionally kissing eachother is a combination of fanservice, and them trying to amuse/annoy eachother. Eitherway, I agree that it just shows how close they are. And it shows how completely comfortable they are in front of an audience. It's just them being silly and giving the fangirls a little thrill at the same time.
I don't find it that weird. My brother and his close friends play around in the same way (uh, not the kissing stuff) so I don't think it has anything to do with cultural background since they're white Canadian kids.
#3: It's really hard to pinpoint an answer to this. For me it's not anything about the groups or people in particular that's scary, it's...just those moments when you see something that makes you say, 'okay, that's a bit screwed up'. I'm sure for me some of it comes from being exposed only to Western pop culture and what is considered normal here for most of my life. Compared to stuff in North America, I would say Johnnys stuff is a lot different, so it's just a matter of getting desensitized to the differences. I mean, if I wanted to introduce my sis to Johnny's, I wouldn't do it by sitting her down in front of a concert cause it would just be too much. It's like diving straight into the deep end of the Johnnys pool. She'd freak out and start yelling 'gay!' at the TV. ^_^ It'd be safer to start her off with music (no visuals!).
For me, I can say that at first the things that 'scared' (as in, made me say, 'What the eff?') were especially things in the concerts like the over-the-top costumes (seriously, someone should put together a website gallery of crazy-ass Johnnys costumes through the ages), some of the music (Kamisen, I'm looking in your direction) and sometimes dancing (there's this move I call the Johnnys highkick - Arashi does it sometimes). Like I said earlier, oldish Jr stuff is pretty weird to me too. It seems a little subversive and creepy sometimes. (*a faint memory of Sho in a wedding dress marrying Tackey crosses her mind*) Plus, some of those old Juniors concerts are strange as hell.
Anyways, even if it's weird, it adds to the Johnny's charm. Like, the Fantastipo PV and Kanjani8's Sukiyanen Osaka PV (and esp. their recent MS performances) are Johnnys-brand bizarre, but that's why they're so awesome.

thanks for the loooovely wallpapers girls! love them.
and kendosuki, interesting questions deserve interesting answers.
1. yes. konseki is written by nino. some of the rap lyrics are written by sho.
but no, 99% of arashi's songs are written by pro song writers. JE probably has a queue of ugly, talented folks imprisoned somewhere churning out songs, lyrics, ideas for the gorgeous, not so talented guys in the limelight.
ok, not all our arashi boys' talent lies in the direction of singing nor song writing. but as a group, they rock!
2. no. no guys anywhere on this planet touch each other openly unless they are gay... (but i've seen lots of indian guys hold hands... is it their culture, or are they deprived?? nothing against indians, bollywood amuses me... just curious...)
but JE is a bit different. JE basically caters to japanese women. this is probably a crash course summary of the japanese pop scene from what japanese girls find aethetic and attractive.
from the way JE pick pretty boys to how 'gorgeous' guys should look from manga to anime to real life. and somehow androgyny in guys appeal to many girls very much (including me). to the point where girls love seeing guys acting 'close' to one another, but not 'gay' (or even gay/yaoi for a niche bunch of girls ). there are lots of stuff written about this psychographically, check it up in the web/books/mags.
but, back to our guys, being together for 6yrs now, they're so familiar with one another that it becomes natural to be buddy-like. and the touching, sharing, etc... is just friendly/brotherly fun. and of course, the audience encourage it anyway.
3. hmm... nothing pretty much scares me about them. ok, maybe some of their perf costumes... that's soooo JE, but still, awful in some cases...
EDIT
Kiwi probably has a more objective point of view coz i've been soaked in japanese culture since i learned to read/notice pics (my first manga was when i was 3yrs old ) so nothing much about JE scares me. i'm commenting on their costumes from a subjective point of view, not that i find JE's wardrobe weird or anything...
but strange that i've never listened to any japanese music until a couple of months ago...

hahaha. i understand what you mean b/c when i tried introducing arashi to my friends...i totally forgot that since they havent known arashi since they were jrs. like me....they were freaked out from their concerts....and hai. they literally jumped up and were all :"WTF?! WHAT'S WITH THEIR CLOTHES? AND THEIR TOUCHING?!" me: they're just messing around! plus style over in japan is different than the style over here! *my friends are filthy rich...and really into fashion....* but that was last year. this year i've been slowly showing them pictures of arashi, music *even though they don't understand a word...*, music videos *with their spectacular dancing...* and their dramas *w/ subtitles so they understand...* and they're beginning to warm up to arashi. so YAY!
demo....my nii chan still thinks arashi is girly....*although he listens to their music sometimes...and sings nice na kokoroiki in the shower...* and he and my onee san get into little fights about the groups from JE...hahaha it's quite entertaining...
but my parents are very surprised that i am into all of this japanese stuff....especially since i grew up *and am STILL growing...* surrounded by caucasion people whereas my nee san and nii chan grew up in the asian community. it's quite different here in illinois compared to southern california. i want to go back to SO CAL. so i can buy the arashi albums and magazines again!

Forgive me if I sound like a teacher for a moment hehe
There are a lot of things in Japanese culture that let their boys get away with doing things like that. Their culture looks at sex differently mainly because of religous reasons. A majority of the people here in the west are Christian (present company excluded), and the Christian god is celibate so there are a lot of things about sex that are taboo here. But the main religons of Japan are Shinto and Buddhism, and the Shinto gods are not required to be celibate, and Buddha wasn't a virgin either, so Japanese people are a lot more open minded about sex. It was even more honorable for a samurai to be gay than to fall in love with a woman. And hey, it was Asians who wrote the Kama Sutra!! Very open minded about sex...but sadly not as much anymore thanks to stupid Western influences.
Guys in Japan are also just naturally closer than the boys here. Stuff like the highly respected relationships between master and apprentice, which is still very very common and important in their culture. Also there are certain formalitlies, and matters of honor and humble positions, that even to this day, men and women are separated somewhat. So guys' friendships with other guys become extremely important. That coupled with everything else, plus in a country that crowded, personal space doesn't really exist, is probably way too detailed of an explanation for why Japanese boys are so open with each other physically...YAAAY!!
taropanda73: yeah Ohno does look like a retard, but when does he not? hehe gotta love him!!
just to chime in on the "closeness" that the boys seem to exhibit ^^ and in the following i'm referring more to Chinese, Korean and Japanese... not as familiar with the other Asian races ^^;;
in my experience as an Asian, we are a lot more physically demonstrative with each other in a friendly way (as a whole in a general sense)... girls hold hands with each other or link arms while walking, boys have their arms around each others shoulders while walking, and will sometimes also hold hands or link arms. Asian boys hug more than Western boys and stand closer. for instance, while on subways and buses, it's not uncommon to see them leaning on each other or giving each other shoulder massages 'n stuff...
that being said, i totally agree with what others have said in that a lot of what our stormy boys do is probably fanservice xD and because they know that their fangirls love it xD _________________

Ah! How could I forget La Familia?! Gomen, MatsuJun! Thanks peachie-chan!
And thanks for the subtitled Konseki, yamete_evie!!! Now people will understand why I wanna cry at this clip when I show it to them! Great job.
And I often wonder why girls love seeing guy <3 guy action. There's just something so sweet and kawaii about guys surrendering their "masculinity" to show their feelings to each other, like little children who haven't learned the conventions of no-touch, private space rules!
I don't know how to explain it! What do you guys think?
The way my guy friends show affection is when one leaves to go home after school they say, "Go to Hell." vio on the outside: vio on the inside:
What kinda of good-bye is that?!

...yeah, don't mind me, hehe. I just had to say that after seeing that picture.
My two cents on the touchy-feely thing:
I've always thought that Asians are actually less affectionate with each other than Western cultures. As far as family dynamics goes, my understanding is that Asian family dynamics involve more formal relationships. For example, it's common to see members of a Western family kissing and hugging each other but less likely to see this among Asian families because relationships are built around being formal and respecting your elders.
Of course, what I just said has nothing to do with how people of or around the same age interact with each other, does it? Living in Canada my whole life, I have no experience of how schoolchildren and youth interact with each other in Asian nations. However, I've always got the impression that Asian cultures are more homophobic than Western cultures. So wouldn't that make people less accepting of boys being touchy-feely with each other?
Sorry, that was a whole bunch of off-topicness. I'm just so bored at work! Please entertain me!

I see them a lot on Yahoo Japan Auctions. You can use a deputy service such as rinkya.com to buy stuff off there since it's not very foreigner friendly.
Lol Baby_Pixie I thought the same thing when I saw that pic - Jun's an amputee!
