Similar in feel and a lot of the same cast, but it's even weirder. Crazy

Thanks for the recommendation. I like weird. Smile

Hello Everyone, so glad to be on this forum. I'm a newbie to J-Dramas, and have watched very few (4 or 5)

I've watched Ryu's Medical Team 1, and some of 2. Hana Yori Dango, and Doctors which I didn't like.

The last one I watched was DOCTOR X, which I loved. There aren't many great shows that you fall for from the very start.

I liked the concept of this show. I'm wondering if there's another show that isn't necessarily similar to it, but applies a similar concept. Is there is a show with these features:

- Main lead: Very good at something and is successful at it

- Breakers (or whatever its called): In Doctor-X I liked when they would sit and play that table-game, I also loved that old guy as a supporting actor (Her Agent). The house (agency) was the place where everyone would come back and chit chat before it gets serious again. I like this idea.

- Genre: It doesn't have to be medical or romantic, as long as its not depressing. (It may seem as if I like medical dramas, which is ok, but I appreciate other genres as well.)

- Year: 2007+ more recent preferred

Please recommend more than 1 drama if possible

Thanks

^Perhaps some detective shows might fit the bill, most of them have some kind of breakers - usually bantering.
- Otenki Onee-san about a genius weather forecaster who helps the police
- Control: about a psychologist helping the police
- Galileo season one and two - about a genial scientist helping the police.
- MR. BRAIN - Kimutaku as a brain specialist helping the police
- Keizoku Spec is weird but Toda Erika is a genius cop and the banters with her humourless partner are fun.
- Kuitan about a food obsessed detective
- Jin about a doctor from out times going back to Edo.
- Mop Girl about a girl who can travel back in time to prevent crime.

You might not like them all :-)

Would have recommended Hero but that's from the 90s. Furuhata Ninzaburo is another but that probably doesn't have English subs.

Shinzamono is another detective one, using observations and deduction mainly

Once again I have an urge to watch something. Haven't been watching anything since 2010 and I was wondering if there's any new must-see dramas!
I absolutely loved Unfair so something similar would be awesome, though I love to watch anything from romance to horror, so anything will do! Naughty

If you liked Unfair, perhaps you might want to try Guilty, Akuma to Keiyakushita Onna. I enjoyed the latter more than Unfair.

Jin was pretty good, but part 2 was a bit of a crying fest. I'm enjoying Shinzanmono as well.

For more detective dramas, I recommend Gaiji Keisatsu. This one is pretty serious but definitely does keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you liked or watched Infernal Affairs, don't miss Double Face - it's a two-parter remake and is an excellent adaptation (one rarely goes wrong with Nishijima Hidetoshi).

That's an understatement... The entire drama could've been an advertisement for Kleenex tissues. Doh!

I was trying to be nice Mr Green Overall, it's a pretty good series and the crying shouldn't (ideally) deter people from checking it out (ideally). Bleah

hey everyone,

I appreciate all of your help. I guess everything comes down to detectives, was hoping for other genres as well, i'm still reviewing your posts and trying to find some good dramas.

I've come to realize that those 'breakers' or 'bantering' if you would call it, are a recurring part of many Japanese dramas. And it isn't so much of a deal breaker for me, but it has a nice feel to it sometimes.

It's true that these socalled breakers occur in many Japanese doramas, but I think it's very well done in Jikou Keisatsu. Back at the police station the whole gang is together and the situation is reviewed in a very funny way. Must warn for absolute insanity in this series though Bonk as in all works of director Satoshi Miki. I consider him a genius (at times)!

Any recent, light-hearted JDramas in the vein of Gokusen, GTO and Dragon Zakura? Or perhaps something emotional like the Kou Kou Kyoushi series, Shiroi Haru, Nagareboshi or Orange Days?

With English subtitles, of course. Smile

Since you're an Aya fan, have you seen 'Itsuka hi, , ,": http://www.jdorama.com/drama.1808.htm

It's more on the emotional side. Aya and Iijima are both very good!

Hi my friends,

this is my second request here in this thread, I am asking for recommendations for jdoramas about :

* people dealing with limited resources with positive attitude , to eventually achieve great results ! something like Dr. Koto clinic jdrama[/b] Smile
because I need something to boost up my spirit in the upcoming stage of my life !

* failing/unsuccessful doctors , I don't like hero-like doctor character, because it is not the case in the real life, something like " say hello to blackjack "

JIN
Doctors
Ohsama no resutoran

There are plenty if limited resources include human/skilled personnel. JIN is the most obvious one, but I didn't find it very uplifting myself. Home Drama is uplifting but it deals with people recovering from personal tragedy.

Umechan Sensei

Can't think of many doctors who were not good at what they do in dramas.

Thank you very much for your reply , I really appreciate it Smile

JIN is a perfect example for what I want Applaud , I already watched 1st and 2nd seasons, 1st season was amazing medicine-wise, the second was incredible drama-wise Smile

I am going to check your other 3 recommendations, and I am still open for more recommendations

Thank you very much

P.S : Could anyone provide English subtitles for Umechan Sensei, please ?
