So far this year, there are a lot of themes that goes into the culture of JPN. Last Samurai, Lost in Translation, Kill Bill, etc. Not only that Last year's "Ring", I'm sure most of us here knew that it was a hit in JPN WAYYY before Americans made their version of it.

Now "Ju-on" is expected to be in development by an american production.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is expected to star in it. Check it out.

Oh yeah, if anyone of you see any news that are JPN/Hollywood related plz post here and not start another thread, thx.

now capitalist are dipping their hands into Japanese movies eh?

in any case I look forward to seeing this movie. The Japanese sure know their horror films.....especially after seeing The Ring (was too afraid to turn on my TV for a week Beaten )

Instead of having Hollywood duplicate/clone/copy Japanese films, etc. why not bring the originals to America? Oh, I forgot: most Americans have a problem reading subtitles. Rolling eyes Bleah

Kill Bill was okay (there's a thread somewhere around). But if you want to see major carnage, check out any of the Shaw Bros. swordplay flicks from the 60's and 70's like The One-Armed Swordsman or The Golden Swallow... They make Kill Bill look like Bambi...

There used to be one in the Crenshaw District (the Kokusai Theater) that showed nothing but Japanese films like Zatoichi and the like... Ahh, those were the days... Big Grin

A little old, but this washington post article tells you what we already know: JPN media is a hot item!! You might have to answer (non-tracable questions) a quick query or 2, but this article is definitely good to read.

Japan's Empire of Cool
Country's Culture Becomes Its Biggest Export
TOKYO -- In the supercharged air of Shibuya, Tokyo's fiercely hip teen quarter, music videos by Japanese pop stars topping the charts throughout Asia boom from towering, outdoor liquid-crystal display screens. The streets below are clogged with hordes of young women wearing the Japanese schoolgirl look -- streetwalker's makeup, sexy stockings and plaid miniskirts -- styled by international fashion magazines as the height of child-delinquent chic.

I read this article in the L.A. Times a couple of days ago... Very interesting. Smile

If I may add; as far I know. Hollywood got the techniques but lack of notions in plot. The easiest example is between
superb-animations-but-just-a-ok-story in disney/pixar cartoon movies and
fair-animations-but-a-great-story in any anime movies.
One more expl; Final Fantasy the movie. A wow 'kicked ass' SFX but with 'what the heck is going on there' story...?
I guess that's why Mr. Spielberg's trying so hard to make his movies deep.
As for fashion; I guess it's east meet west or viceversa

Rip off of the JPN version of "Shall We Dance"
You can see the trailer by clicking on the pic. (BTW, it's apple media)
