So I'm in the checkout line at Ralph's and they've got this weeks Newsweek there with Michael Jackson on the cover. The guy in line in front me, half looking at me, half looking at the Newsweek says, (loud enough for everybody to hear) "Yeah, I stopped liking him when I found out he was a pedophile."

I'm trying to ignore him and looking at the cashier like, "Can we speed it up a little and get this guy out of here?"

Then the guy says, "Yeah, he was a real pervert."

Finally he gets to the cashier and thats the end of that.

^ Sheesh. Sweat

It's amazing how checkout lines can be such a large source of frustration.

Argh. I wish I could say that if it were me, and not you, I would have said something.

But I probably wouldn't have.

L.A. County tax rate to jump half-cent starting today
Updated: 07/01/2009 07:02:39 AM PDT

Shopping will get a little more expensive in Los Angeles County starting today.

The county's sales tax rate will jump by a half-cent beginning today, thanks to voters' approval in November of Measure R, which is expected to generate an estimated $40 billion for transportation and transit projects across the region.

With the Measure R tax hike, the county's sales tax rate will rise to 9.75 percent.

Among the projects expected to be funded by the tax is the so-called ``subway to the sea,'' a $200 million extension of the Metro Green Line to connect it to Los Angeles International Airport; a host of street resurfacing and repair projects; freeway improvements and bus service enhancements.
-----------------------------------------

People were already hurting financially and they voted in favor of this measure to raise taxes???

Stupid. Shake Head Shake Head Shake Head Shake Head Shake Head

People voted the politicians in and approved the measure to allow this tax hike. People get the government they deserve.

And it's nothing compared to what's happening at the federal level. The long term effects of those will make this look like pocket change. But hey, Michael Jackson died!! That's more important!!

Ack, don't get me started.

I've found that I skip the first 10-15 minutes of the news recently because of the excessive coverage of said pop star.

I wasn't commenting on your grammar. This being an online forum creates a whole different vernacular, like text messaging. I was just pointing out the humor in how you were learning civil disobedience in an English class when your teacher should have been teaching English.

Now can you imagine the media frenzy when Bono (aka the Messiah of rock) dies, or someone relatively untainted (compared to MJ) like Madonna. Oh god I want to be on holiday when that happens.
