hey everyone,
i'm Joe. i have a question about japanese names. i'm working on a web comic called captain pink which is kind of a mixed of sailor moon and mega man x and catgirl nuku nuku. and i have all three females is a different race like african american,Hispanic,japanese. i'm name all the girls after popular girl names from that country. i was wounding what's a popular first and last name for a japanese girl. and it can be more then one answer per a post.you can also e-mail me at [email protected] thank you for your time.

Sakura, Kyoko, and Hiromi are pretty common. So are Ai, Akiko, and Natsuko. I hear those a lot.

According to this page, in 2002 the most popular names were

1. Misaki
1. Aoi
3. Nanami
4. Miu
5. Riko
6. Miyu
7. Moe
8. Mitsuki
8. Yuuka
8. Rin
8. Ai

Not sure how accurate this list is.

On the other end of the spectrum, yoko not that popular of name, because it sounds so old. Other old sounding names, Kamado (oven), ushi (cow), etc.

Don't laugh, these are real JPN names from back in the day. Sweat

Here's something I've noticed: a number of my Japanese friends are named Kathy/Cathy and/or have sisters, daughters, etc. named Kathy/Cathy... Is this just coincidence or is there something more to it? Head Scratch

True, but Sayuri has a special kanji combination that is not read as you ordinarily would: ���S�� (ko, hyaku, ai) but combined, it's read Sayuri. Don't ask me why.
