Okay, folks!!!! eBay isn't that effective... So here I go with PLAN B!!!!!!!! This e-mail has just been sent out to JN Productions, who's office is right next to mine:

Code:
Hi,

Who within the JN Production organization should I write to in regards to JNP programming being sold for profit on the various on-line auctions, including eBay? eBay sellers by the names of oshin377 and japdrama2004 are selling the following, all with JNP English subtitles.

You can file a report with eBay via this link:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_inline/report_listing.html

I'm doing this because I purchased a few items from these buyers thinking they were legit copies, and found out that they're JNP works, some of them with the KIKU logo on the top or bottom right corners. And I feel that it isn't right for these sellers to be making money off of your copyright protected works.

Well, within the last 24 hours or so, oshin377 has ended early all of his sales of JN Production's copyrighted dramas. He's still selling JEM and JTV dramas. One step at a time...

actually.... i dont know. i prefer buying fan subbed dramas cos they have english subs, n im so 'lazy' to download from BT.

besides, i feel that those people downloading from BT are also making use of one another.. i mean, downloaders do not even need to pay a cent to watch the whole drama. ]

pls correct me if im wrong. im quite confused now that there's no more fan subed dramas / animes for me to buy

All English-only speaking people like myself prefer Japanese dramas with English subtitles. However, we are not supposed to be going out and buying them from bootleggers. What you want doesn't make it okay to go out and buy it.

That's called "trading". You're supposed to use one another in trading. That's what trading's all about! Capturers like JTV and JEM put out their works for the sole pupose of trading, not for some sleeze ball on eBay to sell them and make a buck.

I think you're not visualizing the big picture here. You're basically thinking about your own needs and not the rights of those who actually make the stuff you're potentially stealing...

1) the English-subbed dramas you see on eBay are all illegal, UNLESS the set is licensed by the company that produced the drama. However, FUJI-TV, NHK, TBS, TV Asahi, and virtually all the other Japanese production companies and networks have never put out a licensed product that includes English subtitles up for sale. And, legal subbing companies like Nippon Golden Network or JN Productions have never released their works for retail sale.

2) Fan subbed dramas are also illegal. When you translate Japanese to English, the English subtitles are still linked to the Japanese spoken, which is in fact makes the English subtitles also protected by the original copyright owner. Doesn't seem fair, but that's how copyright law works.

So basically, if you buy English subtitled Japanese dramas, what you're buying is illegal, and in turn as a buyer you're also committing a crime in infringing on the copyright protection for that product.

Interesting... Checking eBay, the number of "Japanese Drama Eng" shrunk from 39 listings two days ago to just 9. And I don't see any of the major bootleg sellers right now. I still see some bootlegs, including some of JEM's stuff, but not of the quantity it once was just last week. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come...

I've been following this tread and one ebay seller by the name of "Oshin" has been mentioned and identified as an illegal distributor of j-drama.
Well, it's not like this guy's crawling back under his rock trying to hide....as he recently, on JULY 3, posted here on J-dorama trying to trade or sell off his stuff. His thread is almost right above this one and he even has a link to his drama webpage. Not many replies on his thread though, but I thought it was a bit amusing.
Crazy or what? That guy's got b**lls, at least gotta give him that.

wouldn't it be better to somehow have the subbers sell their own subbed products? of course not at outrageous prices but at reasonable prices for those who dont want to and are unable to dl dramas. not only would this get rid of ppl selling bootlegs, it would promote ppl buying bootlegs from the original subbers.

yea, its still illegal and stuff like that...but its one step into getting rid of these fools and seeing groink's bigger picture

There are so many English Sub JDrama seller on eBay.

I can count at least 3 of them even opened an eBay Store.

Chances are, you shut 1 down, 3 more is ready to jump in.

Just my 2 cents!

Yes, you're very right now that... It's too fricking easy to create an eBay account. There's no way you can stop them.

hitorihanzo

Anyway, I thought maybe some of us should post a $0.01 auction on eBay constantly to tell people the link to this forum. Just say where to get English Subtitle JDorama.

This might be an effecitve way to shut donw those fan sub seller.

My 2 cents

I thought about that idea at one time... Unfortunately, eBay wouldn't allow it. They're really cracking down on 3rd-party links. There's a clearly written rule at their site where you're not allowed to post a bid, advertising anything outside of eBay. One time, I auctioned off a computer part, linking people to my site to buy additional stuff. eBay immediately shut down the bid, and threatened to suspend my account if I continued the practice.

But you know... I could post a bid, selling a blank CD-R disc for one-cent, and ship the disc for free. Then in the bid, put in keywords like "japanese", "drama", "eng" "english", and also add in the more popular titles into the bid. Then, in the body of the bid, put in my anti-fanwork selling propaganda messages. I think it would be worth myself paying for the 60-cent stamp to mail the disc if someone were to actually bid on blank disc. It would be worth the money just to educate the buyers.
