Cool. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has no freakin' idea what's about to happen at d-addicts.

You're not the only one: if you check out that link that was mentioned earlier, a lot of people are quite frantic. Sweat

The plan so far is simple...

.torrent files are available at file sharing sites like megaupload or rapidshare...

D/L the .torrent from there...

In time the uploader will make the actual video file available on a public BT tracker...

Here's a fine example already working...

Not surprisingly, there is a huge target on their back because of the torrents and the BT tracker.

So... the smart move is to join either MegaUpload, or Rapid Share... or both?

I know you can download files from MegaUpload without having an account... but you're limited as to how much you can download at a time. Downloading video files, you can exceed your visitors limit pretty quickly.

There's been an update to this new system...

Ruroshin found a different solution, so there won't be any need for uploaders to upload new/re-upload old torrent files to storage sites like MegaUpload, MediaFire, etc. as initially planned...

Quote:
I found a place that lets you cache your torrents, they don't care what it is. I might write a program to put all the old torrents on there that way there's no need to wipe the existing torrents from DA.

and...

I've re-enable the upload link. You can continue uploading stuff, the new code is not yet in place but I will do conversion process later. Just start using public tracker.

The only real difference for the downloader is that when you click on d/l on the torrent page, you'll be directed to download the torrent file and need to open it from your computer rather than the d/l link automatically starting the torrent as in the past. Also, there won't be any stats available to see whether or not something is seeded.

Even if we would have had to use the original plan of uploaders posting links to the torrent files, there wouldn't have been any need for anyone to get a paid account at these storage sites since it wasn't the video itself that was going to be uploaded but just the very small torrent file.

Geez, I don't think you're downloading the actual video from MU, MF, or RS... Just the torrent file, which is only about 30-50KB.

Not really, like BM said your only downloading the .torrent file. You might want to register for a free account on MU, the minor benefit being un-registered users have to wait 45 seconds before downloading, while free registered users wait 25 seconds.

I hate having to wait for that fixed amount of time, especially for something so small (30K-50KB)... Rapidshare is the same way.

I's rather use Sendspace where there's no waiting.

That and the fact you can only download one vid at a time... With torrents, you can download multiple vids simultaneously.

Reading the info thread on DA is pretty entertaining. People there are/were completely freaking out. Every 5-6 posts, you have the same questions over and over again.

Makes me wonder sometimes if some people really understand what they are doing when they download from DA?
