I'm having fun learning with the Pimsleur CD's. My only problem is I don't have anyone to practice speaking with. That's what I need - regular face-t-face practice with someone who is fluent. I know lots of Japanese people through my job, but unfortunately they are all in Japan I have yet to find any local Japanese lessons I could attend.

Well, there's gotta be stacks of Japanese in Sydney. Are you far from Sydney? I've been there a few times ... really enjoyed it.

I know there are lots of people doing online lessons these days. With just a microphone or with a web cam too. Sometimes it costs a lot. Like ★ said, there are a lots of Japanese in Australia, there must be someone giving lessons for cheap.

I'm sure there are too. But, my problem is that I work in Sydney (south) and live an hour's drive south of my office. So while I could probably find someone in Sydney, the amount of time it would take makes it difficult to do, especially since my office hours are already long and I have a family at home to consider

Anyhow, the hour's drive is good for studying by audio CD

So I just started school this week, and I'm excited about my Japanese class! JPN 102 at a local community college (my favorite subject ^^)

I see. In this case, voice chat is probably the answer. I know there was a software that was kind of like msn messenger, but only for voice. You could chat on different subject like Mirc and it was free. Forgot the name though.

I think you mean Skype I have Skype. I guess I could find someone on Skype who wants to chat in Japanese/English.

I'm not giving up though! I want to go to Japan one day, and I want to be able to speak at least a little before I go (Still hoping my boss will send me there on business)

hi guys. i daresay this has been asked a million times, but basically i've been teaching myself (as there are no classes locally ) japanese and i've been doing so for about 6 months now using this beginners book. i've almost finished it and can then move on to the next one. of course it comes with a cd that helps with saying it correctly but i really need someone to talk to and interact with.
does anyone have any suggestions around this? other than going up to random tourists and freaking them out lol
i'm about to learning reading and writing japanese script too just to help so i can read stuff of the net.

de is like saying at.
if say something happened somewhere or you went somewhere or something it would be like de.
say Tokyo de
so its a bit like saying at tokyo..
