At times it seemed that Lotus�fs Romain Grosjean or Red Bull�fs Mark Webber might emerge victorious from a tactical race in Japan on Sunday, but in the end it was Webber�fs team mate Sebastian Vettel who took his ninth success of the season - and fifth in a row - after a finely judged two-stop race.
Webber�fs chances were hampered at the start when both he and Vettel were slow away and Grosjean�fs Lotus burst through from fourth on the grid to snatch the lead going into the first corner, but for a while the Australian�fs three-stop strategy looked good as he swapped to Pirelli�fs medium tyres for his final stint with 11 laps to go. Unfortunately it took him until the 52nd lap to dislodge Grosjean from second place, by which time Vettel was far too far ahead.
The result was not enough to clinch the drivers�f championship for Vettel as Fernando Alonso�fs plucky fourth place for Ferrari leaves him 90 points adrift with 100 still up for grabs in the final four races.
Race - Superb Vettel claims fourth title with India win
Sebastian Vettel wrapped up his fourth consecutive drivers' championship in style with a convincing win in Sunday's 2013 Formula 1 Airtel Indian Grand Prix in New Delhi.
The German, whose victory also secured a fourth straight constructors' crown for Red Bull, needed to finish in fifth place or higher to secure another drivers�f crown, but ended up reaching the chequered flag first, half a minute clear of Mercedes' Nico Rosberg who was second, with Lotus's Romain Grosjean an impressive third having started 17th.
Fittingly it was Red Bull�fs chief technical officer Adrian Newey who joined Vettel on the podium to receive the constructors�f trophy on behalf of the brilliant RB9 car he had designed.
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel scored his seventh consecutive victory and his 11th of 2013 with insouciant ease in Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening, after taking the lead from pole-sitting team mate Mark Webber at the start.
As the Australian made a slow getaway, Vettel and Mercedes' Nico Rosberg were able to swarm past on either side of his RB9, and thereafter Webber spent his time fending off Lotus's Romain Grosjean (who pushed Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton down to fifth), coping with a minor KERS overheating problem, and then hunting down Rosberg. Eventually he was able to overtake the German on the 20th lap to make it a Red Bull one-two, but Rosberg kept him honest to the flag as Grosjean likewise kept the pressure on the Mercedes. Vettel, however, was half a minute up the road and, as Webber suggested afterwards, "In a different category."

Raikkonen to miss last two races due to back surgery
Kimi Raikkonen will miss the final two rounds of the 2013 Formula One season in order to undergo back surgery ahead of his move to Ferrari in 2014. This means that the Finn will no longer be racing at the Circuit of the Americas in the United States Grand Prix, set to take place next weekend.
Raikkonen has suffered from a recurring back injury throughout his career, but it has become increasingly problematic of late and it was thought that he may take the decision to pull out of the final few races of the year in order to correct the problem.
Speaking to Autosport, Raikkonen�fs manager, Steve Robertson, confirmed that the Finn would not be racing in the final two rounds of the season.
�gIn an ideal world it would have been nice to finish the season with Lotus in the final two grands prix,�h he explained. �gHowever, due to the severe pain that Kimi is having, sadly it is not possible.�h
Therefore, Raikkonen has raced for Lotus for the final time, bringing to an end a two-year stint at Enstone that has turned sour due to financial problems. He made clear in Abu Dhabi that he would consider walking away from the team early if they could not come to some sort of agreement, but team principal Eric Boullier insisted earlier this week that relations were good with Raikkonen despite him having a seat fitting with Ferrari. Nevertheless, Raikkonen�fs decision to have back surgery should allow him to begin life with the Italian marque in 2014 fully fit.
Lotus released a statement on Sunday afternoon confirming the news.
�gLotus F1 Team can confirm that Kimi Raikkonen will miss the final two races of the 2013 Formula 1 season to undergo, and recover from, back surgery. The team will make an announcement about the replacement driver for the United States and Brazilian Grands Prix in due course.�h

I think it's a combination of the best driver and the best designer. We all could see how good Vettel was back in '08 when he won at Monza driving that piece of crap Toro Rosso. But with Red Bull he's got certainly the best designer since Colin Chapman, maybe the best designer ever in Adrian Newey. Newey designed the all-conquering Williams' cars of the early to mid-'90s then went to McLaren where he designed Hakkinen's first championship car. Since going to Red Bull teaming up with Vettel they've been pretty much unstoppable. When you've got a combination like that it's almost unfair. It'd be like letting Tom Brady start every drive from the 50.
That didn't really answer your question. I think in this case it's more car than driver. If Vettel were in the Lotus or Ferrari he'd be winning races and maybe even the championship, but if Hamilton, Raikkonen or Alonso were in the Red Bull they'd be world champions.

2014 F1 schedule:
THREE Grands Prix have been removed from the provisional Formula One calendar for 2014 at the International Automobile Federation's AGM.
Races in South Korea, Mexico and New Jersey had been included in a bloated 22-race program for next season but the FIA has decided to keep the current program of 19 races.
With a new fixture on the calendar in Sochi for the Russian Grand Prix next year, the Korean race at Yeongam has had to make way.
An original 22-race provisional calendar had been announced on September 30 but that has now been reduced.
The Indian Grand Prix has also had to make way for the Austrian race at the Red Bull Ring, although that had already been announced in September.
The only other change from the 2013 calendar sees the German GP move from the Nurburgring to Hockenheim.

Michael Schumacher injured in skiing accident
LYON, France, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Retired seven-times Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher suffered a head injury in a fall while skiing off-piste in the French Alps resort of Meribel on Sunday, an official said.
The 44-year-old German was wearing a helmet and was conscious while being transported to a local hospital in Moutiers, the resort director, Christophe Gernigon-Lecomte, told Reuters.
While suggesting that Schumacher was less seriously injured than initial reports had indicated, the director said the former driver had been transferred subsequently to a better-equipped medical unit in Grenoble for further examinations.
Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm was unable to give any further information about his condition but confirmed he was on a private ski trip and had not been alone.
Gernigon-Lecomte said Schumacher, who has a vacation home in Meribel, had been skiing off piste.
"He fell around 11:00 am and hit a rock with his head," he added.
"It seems that he has suffered a head trauma, but I would not say how serious it is. He was conscious but very agitated while being taken to hospital."
Just a note, "off piste" means not on a marked course. In other words, they were probably off fooling around in some area they shouldn't have been in.

Grenoble (France) (AFP) - Michael Schumacher, the retired seven-time Formula One champion, has undergone brain surgery and is in a "critical" condition after striking his head in a ski accident in the French Alps on Sunday, doctors said.
The 44-year-old German was "suffering a serious brain trauma with coma on his arrival, which required an immediate neurosurgical operation", the hospital in the southeastern French city of Grenoble said in a brief statement.
