From Slashdot.org:
----------------------------
At the Tokyo Motorcycle Show in Japan, the official licensed model of the motorcycle from the anime movie Akira is displayed. This Kaneda bike is not a mere replica, but a full working model with twin-steering system and 249-998cc water-cooled 4-cycle engine, and on its cockpit is DVD-navi-system + trackball & ten-key + custom computer-controlled LED meters - all licenced by the author and the publisher of Akira.

| Incredible. Simply incredible, as the price must be. The guy who directed League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was slated to direct the live-action version of Akira; due to an apparent disillusionment with the whole Hollywood thing (or was it just "blockbuster" films?), he backed out. I think he'd reconsider his standpoint -- akin to how I want to re-watch this anime film I've written off as utterly confusing -- after seeing these stills. NO one can look at those pics and, motorcycle training be damned, want to ride that 'cycle. |

in fact, from what I remember, the design of Kaneda's bike evolves throughout the comics.
so it dosn't seem to exactly match the movie bike, but I think it is pretty close to designs seen in the manga...just check, it reaaly does look like the one at the "beginning"* of the manga
*see, as an example, when kaneda escapes the military complex (in the olympic site) he just discovered with kay. (I won't give page number, since it would be refering to the french colored edition, and thus useless to most...) |

But this bike looks awesome, motorcycle companies have been designing bikes like this too... I know suzuki and kawasaki have got bikes that are similar in style. I forget the name tho... |
Heh, I knew you'd appreciate this, ChoyBoi, being a cycle guy... _________________
