Yeah! Another movie by Tsutsumi! This is the 2nd collaboration with Shibasaki for movie since Drive. Can't wait to see this movie. Wonder if it will come to Singapore~

The other movie that she stars in 'Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu' is the one where Hirai Ken sings the theme song, 'Hitomi wo Tojite' Her co-star is Osawa Takao.

ohhhh ok that's the one then! 'Hitomi wo Tojite' is really tearing up the charts right now

Dang.... this looks scary.... especially with a character like Tetsumi Shinichi and Shibasaki Kou.... They are both scary actors... But i would watch it cause they're in it....

Shibasaki & Shinichi san really belongs to the scary genre~ keke~ I really can't wait for this movie... but the DVD has no subtitles!!!!

I've just watched the film "Chakushin Ari"(one missed call) ALONE throughout in the cinema !Not kidding.I had thought there are a few other ppl watching when I select my seat on the screen at the ticket counter.When I entered the cinema,I sat on the second highest row,about 10 mins into the movie,I was scared stiff and went to the front row.
It was the first time I saw Kou Shibasaki.Think she's a good actress.
I love the ending song.Is it sung by her?I wanna purchase the song.
I also like the dressing style worn by her in this particular movie,but can't find such images of her so far and the film's official site doesn't have the images,I think. Know where can see pics of her with her clothes in the movie online?

Takashi Miike is a busy man, but his hard schedule doesn't seem to be affecting the quality of his films. "Chakushin Ari", released in theaters in early 2004, is the story of college student Yumi Nakamura, played by Shibasaki Kou ("Battle Royale"). Bored at a singles party, Yumi waits for her friend Yoko, who arrives to the party late after finishing work. While Yoko is changing clothes in the ladies room, she receives a phone call with a spooky ring tone she has never heard before. To make things creepier, the call appears to be from her own phone. Yoko listens to the message, which is dated three days in the future, and hears her own voice saying "It's started raining." The short message is followed by a bloodcurdling scream. Several days later, the events heard in the message actually occur, and Yoko meets a gruesome death.
However, Yoko isn't the last person to hear this strange ring tone. Others begin getting similar calls and meeting similar fates, and Yumi finds herself in a race against time to solve the mystery before her own number comes up...

It is hard to do something new in the world of horror these days. Even Japanese horrors which were deemed fresh in the late 90's got more and more repetitive, and we can say that after Kairo, there is nothing really fresh coming out of the horror department of Japanese films. The quiet atmosphere and the fear towards darkness within colorless world possessed by vicious female ghosts is no longer new to both Japan and the rest of the world. Ju-ons (all of them except the part 2 of the one made only for video which sucked badly) are scary; the series break the silent rule of Japanese horrors, its director even say that he tried to go the opposite way Nakata and Kurosawa went, he will scare the audience by showing the ghosts and gore as much as possible. And Ju-ons worked, to some extent; the director is successful in creating the world of nightmare that co-exist with the ordinary world that people live in. He use a normal house/apartment as his stage of fear and bring out all the every possible scare out of every corner of that place. But one can also say that Ju-ons are good only in parts; its strength is just the sum of a few very scary scenes that the director successfully created and not the overall atmosphere or the story of the films. Now it's time for the ever creative Miike who once scared the hell out of the audience, not by using ghosts, but using a sadistic but innocent-looking girl, to put some new blood into Japanese horrors. As a big fan of J-horror and Miike, I was so looking forward to the film and that I was afraid my high expectation will kill it, but the result was beyond my expectation, I enjoyed this thrill ride so much I wish it would never end.

In terms of story, Chakushin Ari is nothing new. It's the Ring plus mobile phone plus Miike trademark's world of weirdness. However, it's execution is a very good blend of Nakata's the silent and dark world and Simizu's bang bang ghost is coming style, and the result, IMHO, is very fresh and satisfying. Miike has toned down his weird and over-the-top scenes to suit the taste of wider audiences, but this film is still full of creative and scary scenes (the scene at the TV station which I deem so good it's classic, and the scene at the hospital which is so weird and spooky that I wish it could last longer) with quite satisfying story and (many may argue) acceptable open ending. Although his ingredients are nonetheless recycle of old tricks (everything from dark corners, female ghosts, old apartments, old hospitals, scary-as-hell sound effects, and right out of the screen gore and ghosts), they are orchestrated in such a stylish and enjoyable way that I can't help jumping and flinching while at the same time enjoying the ever rushing adrenalin in my vein. Repetitive, may be, but fresh ideas are still everywhere; Miike stood very good balance between Nakata's atmospheric scare/strong story and Shimizu illogically outrageous and bizarre world. In sum, a very very entertaining grade A pure horror (not psychological thriller in disguise) which is both repetitive and fresh at the same time. This film should satisfied both hardcore horror fans and those who want satisfying entertainment

I found "Chakushin Ari" a good horror film.Better than "Seance" which wasn't very scary and bit disappointed.When it ended and the song came,the fear in me was gone and was enjoying the song so much I wished it will go on and on.It was a beautiful song it can make you think of your sad things and cry.I caught the last 2 words of the song title "no sora".Maybe is "Ikutsuka no Sora" by Kou.She sing very well too.
Though I'm a fan of J films and horror too,I don't buy horror dvds.Just watch them in cinemas.If anyone knows any websites that has images of Kou(with her clothes) in this film,pls let me know.I'm esp. looking for the image of her when she's talking to Shinji in the school.

Forgot about this.
I cannot remember how the "killing" ringtone sounds in this film.
But I swear I really like it.Other than buying the dvd or watch the film at the cinema again(which i don't intend to even though i was totally glad i caught it),how/where else can i listen to that ringtone ?
Wished I could get it on my own handphone.

I couldn't agree more. I was very dissapointed after I saw it only because it almost copies the Ring "to a t". If I had seen it before the Ring I would have liked it more, and I think it's actually better than the Ring. However, the plot carried through in a similar manner to the ring, even the "surprise" ending seemed to be very similar.

Guess you all wouldn't believe it... i watched Chakushin twice! Tsutsumi is so cool inside I really like Shibasaki's dressing too! Especially the one where she wore to the "unhelpful" police station.

Couldn't agree more with risu! I luv the ringtone! Been looking for it.

One thingy that really bothers me... wat does it means by "everyone has a seperate sky?" as Ritsuko has said... please enlighten me... His open ending has really left all my frens discussing abt it after that

The raw DVD rip (Divx I believe) was posted on the alt.binaries.multimedia.japanese newsgroup maybe a month ago (or less) and a good quality subtitle file was created to go along with it. I don't know if these made the bittorrent rounds or not...but it's out there.
