Auschwitz is in Poland, not Germany. I thought since Spielberg is Jew, he would get special concession. It didn't turn out that way. Schindler's List was filmed in Dachau (Germany) and Cracow (Poland) eventually.

The pace in Shiroi Kyoto might seem slow to the younger crowd. First 10 episodes is about Zaisen's rise. The next ten is about his decline. My favourite characters happened to be Zaisen's wife and his father-in-law. Very realistic. I remembered the role Eguchi played wasn't my favourite. After further thought, I believe it's easy to play the good guy like Eguchi did.

The book Shiroi Kyoto was written in the 1960s. I think it comes in 3 or 4 volumes.

True. My least favorite character is Ito Hideaki's, Yanagihara. What a tower of Jello. How did this guy ever get through medical school?

Anyone has any idea if this book is available in English? Or is it just in Japanese? Somehow feel that it'll be an interesting read.

I think one of themes the author brought out was the hierarchial culture in Japanese society.

That young doctor was at the bottom of the hierarchy in the medical fraternity.Unless he leaves the hospital and set up his own private practice, his career is very much in the hands of his seniors and the hospital administration. Since he has just begun his career, he can't switch hospital without a valid reason or without a senior's reference (this is reality not fiction and i wonder how the author, being a 'she' knows so much secrets in the medical fraternity).

One wrong step, the doer gets affected, the wife gets affected, the children get affected and even his in laws and parents are affected. This is what this whole show is about.

That depends on how they interpret the x-ray. Zaizen says it's infection, Satomi says it might be cancer.

Anyway, finished this one. Great, great drama. Could be the best overall performance by a cast in any drama.

YES. Absolutely........plus a good scriptwriter/screenplay.
That's why I dun find anything interesting in jdoramas now.

hi, i would love to join in the conversation since i finished watching this drama a few days ago. i seriously have no idea why i missed out this drama for years although i bought years ago. =.=

it was a great drama, with very good script and fantastic. at least i thought so. karasawa toshiaki's character attracted me a lot in this show. i actually feel the way they portray the two main characters is awesome, similar yet different pursue in life. i like the contrast very much!!

if you are looking for a good script, good actors but serious show, i think this is one for you. XD

I think the thing that scares some people off is that it's 21 episodes which might seem long, but when you have cast and story this good it isn't.

I think what scares a lot of people off is that this dorama isn't littered with fangirl and fanboy "actors". . . which is why the cast is so good.

I have watched almost all of this drama. Not sure why I stopped in fact.
Toshiaki rocks in it.
