I just spent all Thanksgiving weekend watching all 8 episodes of the third series of the dorama--Sarariiman Kintaro 3. What a great show. Katsunari Takahashi is a great actor. I wonder if there will be a fourth installment. I've seen all of Sarariiman Kintaro 2 but missed the first series. If anyone can get the subtitled copies I highly recommend it.

I've watched the first two season but while it isn't that great of a series, it certainly has its moments. The boring parts are how he always solves the problems by fighting and the best parts are the women fighting over him. Season 2 was pretty good because they went in a different direction. Hope to find season 3 on the net. My favourite character from Kintaro is Kintaro's rival. Hope he knocks Kintaro down a few times in season 3. Not to mention finish off the subplot about his mother started in season 2. Smile

The third season is the best! 2nd was prolly the weakest. This time it's less fighting and more story in the series. Kintaro acts more mature and is determinted to solve the obstacles without the use of violence as we see in the previous seasons. Less females wooing for him, hehe. Yes, the ambitious projects are still displayed during the story such as the-first-enviroment-friendly-city-in-Japan Mr Green A lot of suprising turn arounds happen and not to mention the ending Wink

I only saw the first one and third series. I like the theme song in the first one by The Alfee. I love the way all the good looking women chase after him. It's hilarious.

Anybody know what has happened to Noriko Aota. She played the secretary in the first series. She was also Kintaro's rival's lover. She was kind of sexy. Don't know what happened to her.

She got written off the show, as did Yasuko Sawaguchi.

TBS has just announced that there will be a fourth installment beginning January in Japan. The videos for it should hit the Japanese video shops in the U.S. about a month thereafter.

Fourth installment? Holy crap! Now I'm really curious how they can make things different in season 3 and 4. Is it based on a manga? I know there's an anime series. Just found out that there's a Gokusen manga.

They just HAD TO do it. Kintaro is such a hugely popular show now, the producers would be crazy not to do more episodes. Applaud

BTW, I have 6 kids not 4. hehe

It's basically the same story.

Kintaro had become a fisherman in a coastal village, but the cousin of the late chairman Yamato and the chairman's illegitimate son come to the village to convince Kintaro to go back to Tokyo to save the Yamato company which has become riddled with corruption.

The cousin is played by Eiji somebody, who is a great actor. However, the big, tough illegitimate son is played by a former pro baseball player named Kazushige Nagashima who has no acting talent whatsoever. He looks huge on the show but in reality he's only 181cm and 90 kg. Katsunari Takahashi who playes Kintaro is only about 174cm and 65 kg.

It's usually always the same story which is why I don't care for those Kintaro series. Never could catch my interest and probably never will.

Third season was kinda weak, I think it should have ended there.

But I'll watch it anyway if ever available.

I think the series have been somewhat inspirational for salary men in Japan.

Times have been really tough and are still currently tough in Japan.

It's a bit too "idealistic" but it teaches people (future salary men) what is right or wrong. If you stick to basic moral principles which Kintaro does...then in the long run...you come out ahead.

I believed they only showed the 1st and 3rd series here in Los Angeles. I enjoyed both.

Series 4 might start getting to be a bit overkill though. But I'll probably still watch if they show here in LA...especially if there are more good looking females as there usual is Mr Green

Mr Green

I missed the first series but saw the 2d and 3d. They were available at the Video Addict on Sawtelle Blvd. in W. L.A.

I believe that was the 3rd series. No?

When the 3rd series started...he was already married to Mayumi?

First series was the best.
