I've heard that Suzuki Anne is incredibly popular in Japan - anyone want to shed light on that?

Is it true? Why is she so popular?

She's the specialist (of sorts)/time-traveller from the ever-popular The Returner (which also stars Takeshi Kaneshiro).

And . . . isn't she the smiling gal at the beginning of Battle Royale, too?

The only drama I've seen her in is Aoi Tori. For a young kid (she was only 10 when it was filmed in 1997), she was really good!

Anne is definetly among my favourite japanese actesses. The first time I saw her was in the dorama Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo 3.

One thing I always wonder is why her first name is Anne...isn't that strange for a Japanese girl? Or is she only half-japanese?

She's a very good actress. I've seen her in Rokubanme No Sayoko and Stand Up!! and I hear she got good reviews in her stage performance Hamlet.

Her first name is actually An or in kanji. Guess like Odagiri Joe she romanized her name so people would remember her.

Anne's@iAn)@grandmother is "American" according to a fansource--but that doesn't say whether or not her American grandmother is Caucasian or not, but since to most Japanese people American = White, she would be 1/4 non-Japanese. This probably also explains her appearance on a foreign language program. Japanese people like to see half-Japanese (or those who appear so, I guess?) tackling other languages.

I don't know why she's so popular...but I think if I said her name, not too many people would know who she is without a pic in Japan. Teenagers are more likely to know her.

I was surprised to see her on a morning talkshow talking about her pregnancy and her soon-to-be-married life. I honestly thought, "Who is watching this?" I think she's more known for her modeling than anything else in Japan right now though...

I think I know who you're talking about. Tsuchiya Anna who just appeared with FukaKyon in a new movie. I'd heard she's hapa and she's pregnant and getting married.

thank you guys for telling me about the mystery of her name ^^
I had already wondered why her name sometimes is written like An and sometimes like Anne ...
I don't know a lot about her so far, so I'm always happy to get some news. Do any of you probably know some good fansites?

well..as someone said, she isn't really that popular in japan. I was there this summer and didn't see her once on tv I think, not in any tv-shows or commercial's (but I didn't really look for her Bleah).

first time I saw her was in the movie Returner that was an ok film. her acting was not that superb but still convincing enough. she's still younge so she still has time to become popular ^^

Oh really. I think that she actually IS quite popular in Japan. I've also been to Japan this summer and I saw her in a lot of MagazinesL. She's become a lot prettier compared to the time when she was shooting Stand Up!
I didn't see it on TV this summer, but earlier this year she did this real popular Kit Kat commercial.

Even if she's not that big already in Japan, she'll make her way. I mean she's young, cute and talented. She'd deserve it.

Ah, I didn't mean it like "she is not good looking". I thought that she was very cute and -as arashinokoto said- perfect for the role, but when I saw her pictures this summer, it was the first time I thought she's really really beautiful and hot.

I believe people always felt attracted to her because of her looks. I mean, she looks a lot different than other Japanese girls IMHO, doesn't she?!

Wave Nice to meet you too ^^ It's always exciting to meet people from Austria who have the same interest. As far as I know there are some more members here who also come from AUT, but unfortunately I don't know their names ^^;

and about Anne ^^; I knew that you meant it that way, I just wanted to tease you a little bit Mr Green
