Tanaka runs his record to 11-1 going 6 innings giving up 5 hits strking out 10 and lowering his already miniscule ERA to 1.99. Yanks beat Toronto 3-1.
Munenori Kawasaki was recalled from the minors before the game and went 1-for-4 with a triple for the Blue Jays.
Meanwhile Yu Darvish continues to be jinxed by the A's giving up 8 hits, 7 runs (4 earned) in just 5 innings as the Rangers get pounded 10-6. Darvish is 35-13 against everybody else but 1-8 against Oakland.

Friday was non-support night for Japanese pitchers. Kuroda goes 6 innings for the Yankees, gives up 4 hits and 2 runs, leaves trailing 2-1 but the Yankees pulled it out to win 5-3.
For the Mets, Dice-K goes 5-1/3 giving up just one run, leaves trailing 1-0, gets hung with the loss as the Marlins beat the Mets 3-2.

Tanaka gets hung with his second loss of the year as the O's shut out the Yankees 8-0. Tanaka pitched well enough, it was a 3-0 game when he left after the seventh.
Darvish pitches terrible giving up 5 runs in 6 innings. Rangers lose to the Halos 5-2.

Tanaka, Darvish named to AL All-Star team

First-year big leaguer Masahiro Tanaka was named to the American League All-Star team on Sunday, when the manager's selections were announced.
Tanaka, who leads the majors with 12 wins, will be joined on the squad by his longtime rival from Japan's Pacific League, Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish, who was selected for the third straight time in his three-year big league career.
Darvish has yet to throw an All-Star pitch, will likely get a chance to finally go to the mound on July 15 at Minneapolis' Target Field, but as it stands now, Tanaka will likely have to pass on that honor as he is expected to start the New York Yankees' final game before the All-Star break on Sunday.
Darvish, who was unavailable to pitch each of the last two seasons, expressed doubts about his selection. He has an 8-4 record with a 2.63 earned run average. The right-hander said his selection was down to his results last season, when he led the majors in strikeouts and finished second in the AL Cy Young Award voting.
"I think some of that (the selection) is the image that remains from last season," Darvish said.
Still, he joins some elite company as just the fourth pitcher named to an All-Star team in each of his first three seasons. Hall of Famer Tom Seaver leads the list with seven straight appearances starting from his rookie year, while Brooklyn Dodgers great and former Chunichi Dragon Don Newcombe made it three straight as did
former New York Mets right-hander Dwight Gooden.

Masahiro Tanaka surrendered five runs in 6-2/3 innings on Tuesday as the New York Yankees fell 5-3 to the Cleveland Indians.
Pitching on four days' rest for the second straight time, Tanaka (12-4) was leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, when Nick Swisher followed a leadoff double with a two-run homer at Cleveland's Progressive Field.
"It is frustrating not being able to shut them down," said Tanaka, who started his evening with a two-run lead. "So many pitches got into the middle of the zone, and that was the story. If they were in the middle of the zone, batters were making good contact."
"It's not like everything I tried failed, but I have some adjustments to make and I'll have to do what's necessary."
After Michael Brantley homered with two outs in the seventh, Tanaka surrendered a single to the next batter and Yankees manager Joe Girardi came out with a hook.
"I don't think his stuff was bad, but he did make mistakes," Girardi said.

Tanaka placed on DL for elbow inflammation
CLEVELAND -- The one real highlight of the New York Yankees' 2014 season, the chance to watch Masahiro Tanaka pitch every five days, was put on hold indefinitely Wednesday when the 25-year-old right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what the Yankees are calling elbow inflammation.
The situation might turn out to be far more serious than that -- elbow pain often is a sign of a torn ulnar collateral ligament and a precursor to Tommy John surgery -- but the Yankees declined to divulge the exact nature of Tanaka's injury because he has yet to be examined by their team physician, Dr. Christopher Ahmad.
"I think you always worry when a guy has an elbow MRI,'' manager Joe Girardi said. "But until Dr. Ahmad sees him, I don't have much more for you.''
Girardi said Ahmad was at a conference of orthopedic surgeons in Seattle and not immediately available to examine Tanaka. He did not know when Ahmad would be back and would not offer any other details of Tanaka's condition aside from what was already known.
"It's obviously soreness,'' Girardi said. "I'm not saying it's a significant injury. There's soreness, and he must have felt that it was affecting him a little bit. So we felt it was best to send him back and have an MRI.''
Tanaka was flown to New York for an MRI on Wednesday after complaining to team trainers about the elbow soreness following a subpar performance in Tuesday night's 5-3 Yankees loss to the Cleveland Indians. Tanaka, who leads the major leagues with 12 wins, uncharacteristically struggled with his control, blew a 3-1 lead, and surrendered two long home runs in the sixth and seventh innings to Nick Swisher and Michael Brantley.
It was the fourth loss of the season for Tanaka and his third in the past four games, a decline that coincides with his pitching for the first time this season on standard four days' rest in successive starts. The Yankees had managed to give Tanaka at least one extra day of rest every other start in deference to the practice in Japanese baseball of pitching once every seven days, a schedule Tanaka had followed for seven seasons in the Nippon Baseball League.
Girardi said he did not believe the elbow problem was the cause of Tanaka's recent struggles.
"It's the first time he's complained about it,'' Girardi said.

Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara was named to the American League All-Star team on Wednesday to replace Japanese compatriot Masahiro Tanaka, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Uehara, who was promoted to the closer role in June 2013, saved all seven of his postgame opportunities and was named MVP of the American League Championship Series. The 39-year-old right-hander has pitched in 41 games this season with a 5-2 record, 18 saves and a 1.27 earned run average. It will be his first All-Star appearance since he moved to the majors prior to the 2008 season as a free agent
from the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League.
"This is something I've wanted to experience," said Uehara, who added he expected less of the party atmosphere that Japan's annual series turns into.
"I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it, because it's a real competition. I think it's a bit different from what we have in Japan."
Red Sox general manager Ben Cherrington heaped praise on his closer.
"Really well deserved. No one has pitched as well out of the bullpen for the last year plus than he has," Cherrington said according to MLB.com. "I'm very happy for him. Hopefully he's honored by it, and he should be. He's more than deserving."

In a best-case scenario, the Yankees ace will miss six weeks, Cashman said. If rehab doesn't work, Tanaka likely will need Tommy John surgery.
Tanaka has seen three doctors and all three diagnosed the pitcher with a partially torn ligament in his throwing arm, according to Cashman. All three also agreed to hold off on surgery for now.
Tanaka was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday. He flew from New York to Seattle on Thursday morning to be examined.
In his first MLB season, Tanaka leads the AL with 12 wins and a 2.51 ERA and is a leading candidate for the AL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards.

Tanaka apologizes to Yankees, fans for injury
Masahiro Tanaka apologized Friday to the New York Yankees, his teammates and the team's fans for being sidelined by a partially torn ligament in his right elbow.
General manager Brian Cashman said in a conference call Thursday that Tanaka could return in six weeks but didn't rule out the possibility of Tommy John surgery if the right-hander doesn't respond to a rehab program.
On Friday, the Yankees' ace released a statement on his injury, saying he "will be going through some treatment and rehab on my injured elbow over the next several weeks."
"I give everything I have every time I take the ball. With that, I also know that there will always be a risk of injury when playing this game that I love. Right now I feel that the most important thing for me is to keep my head up, remain focused on the task at hand and devote all my energy into healing the injury in order to come back strong," he said.
"I want to apologize to the Yankees organization, my teammates and our fans for not being able to help during this time. I accept this injury as a challenge, but I promise to do everything I can to overcome this setback and return to the mound as soon as possible."

Tsuyoshi Wada gets first MLB win as Cubs beat Rockies
CHICAGO -- After nine seasons in Japan and three years in the minor leagues, Cubs starter Tsuyoshi Wada finally picked up that elusive first major league victory.
Wada (1-1) left little doubt about Monday night's outcome in pitching seven strong innings as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-1.
"I'm so happy for him," catcher John Baker said. "It's great, when you're having a tough season like we're having, to have little victories like that."
In only his third start in the majors, Wada cut through the Colorado lineup and allowed just one run and five hits. It was a far cry from his previous outing, when he lasted just four innings and gave up five runs in a loss to San Diego. The sole blemish on Wada's performance came in the sixth, when the Rockies got three hits capped by Nolan Arenado's RBI single.
"He executed pitches, got some big outs when he needed to and got out of traffic that developed late," manager Rick Renteria said. "He did a nice job and gave us some innings."
The 33-year-old Wada won 107 games over nine seasons in Japan. He signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles two seasons ago but injured his elbow soon after joining the club and underwent undergo Tommy John surgery in May 2012. He signed with the Cubs in December 2013.
"It's the second time I pitched in Chicago, so it was a little more relaxed," Wada said through an interpreter. "I'm happy about this first win."

Ichiro placed on waivers for possible trade

The New York Yankees have placed Ichiro Suzuki on waivers with the aim of trading the 40-year-old Japanese outfielder, according to a report from the New York Post on Friday.
If within 48 hours a team claims Suzuki, who is in the same boat as teammate Brendan Ryan, the Yankees can negotiate a trade with that team, pull him back or have the team assume the rest of his contract. If either of the players clears waivers, they can be freely traded until Aug. 31.
Suzuki, who batted ninth in Friday's game against the Cleveland Indians, has seen less playing time in recent days. The Yankees acquired infielder Martin Prado from the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31. This season, Suzuki has appeared in just 100 games, batting .276 with one home run, 14 RBIs and nine stolen bases.
