While nobody was looking the NBA season has started. Lakers lost their first game at home to Houston by 18 then went to Phoenix and lost by 20.

The Lakers lost 55 games last year, their worst record since moving to Los Angeles. I figured even with just a healthy Kobe and no other additions there was no way they'd be as bad this year. I could be wrong.

In case you missed it, last Friday Klay Thompson (son of former Laker Mychal Thompson) of Golden State set a new NBA record scoring 37 points in one quarter against Sacramento.

He went 13-for-13 from the field, 9-for-9 on three pointers.

Seattle Storm sign Ramu Tokashiki

WNBA club Seattle Storm has signed Japanese player Ramu Tokashiki, she announced today to local media following a Japanese league game.

At the age of 23, the 192 cm tall player has become one of the Japanese NT leaders.

Last year in the World Championship she averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Tokashiki could become the first Asian player to play in the WNBA since 2009 when Chinese center Nan Chen played for Chicago Sky. A year before that Japanese guard Yuko Oga played for Phoenix Mercury.

Looks like you got your wish. The Finals will be Cleveland, who have never been to the Finals, vs. the Warriors who last won it in 1975.

To give you an idea of how long that's been, someone graduating from college in June on 1975 when the Warriors won their last championship is now eligible for Social Security. That's a LOOOOOOOONNNGG dry spell.

Darryl Dawkins dead at 58

Darryl Dawkins, whose backboard-shattering dunks earned him the moniker "Chocolate Thunder" and helped pave the way for breakaway rims, has died. He was 58.

The Lehigh County, Pennsylvania coroner's office said Dawkins died Thursday morning at a hospital. No cause of death was immediately announced and an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

Dawkins spent parts of 14 seasons in the NBA with Philadelphia, New Jersey, Utah and Detroit. He averaged 12 points and 6.1 rebounds in 726 career regular-season games.

He was selected No. 5 in the 1975 NBA draft by the 76ers.

"A great man, entertainer, athlete and ferocious dunker," former NBA guard Kevin Johnson wrote on Twitter in tribute to Dawkins. "He will be missed but not forgotten."

Dawkins was as revered off the court as he was on it. He remained enormously popular after his playing days were done, even during his stint as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Injuries plagued him late in his NBA career, and he went overseas for several more years to play primarily in the Italian league.

Former NBA great Moses Malone has died in his sleep in Norfolk, Va..

The Philadelphia 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil released a statement on behalf of the team.

Malone committed to the University of Maryland, but was drafted by the Utah Stars of the ABA in 1974 and decided to go pro. He played a season with the Stars, a season with the Sprits of St. Louis before coming to the NBA in 1976.

Malone played for five seasons with the Houston Rockets before joining the Philadelphia 76ers in 1982. Teamed with Julius Erving, the Sixers won the 1982-83 NBA championship. Malone averaged 31.9 points and 12.8 rebounds during the playoff run.

A member of the Hall of Fame, Malone was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players in 1996.

He was named NBA MVP in 1978-79, 1981-82 and 1982-83.

New season, same old Lakers: They build up a double-digit lead (16 points) on the T-Wolves, then fade out in the fourth quarter and lose, 112-111.

And the same old Kobe: He takes the most shots and isn't even close to 50%: 8-23.

I think Kobe should come off the bench, not start.
