I think it's already a classic. It's a good drama. The all-star cast did help its reputation. I just saw Love Generation and I like it a little better than Long Vacation. I think it's because the story is more realistic and believable and a lot of people can relate to it. I guess I can relate somewhat to the drama with my own relationship.

I didn't find it boring, eventhough the plot was straightforward and simplistic. It was still worth watching and the acting was more involved for both Kimura and Matsu. Long Vacation is more light-hearted and not as dramatic as L.G. I agree with you in that I think Riko liked mizuhara more than mizuhara liked her. I've lost touch with dramas since subtitles have been prohibited and am now only catching up buying vcd's from E-bay. I'm gonna purchase Hero next. Have you seen that?

the funny thing is that i heard so much abt this show long before i actually watched it, which was pretty recently. so i was surprised when i actually watched it, for a couple of reasons:

1. i always had the impression that Long Vacation was a show which, like its title seemed to imply, depicted a REAL vacation/ holiday, not a metaphorical one which the show suggested. so you can imagine how startled i was, having expected a beach boys kindof show, to instead see a drama on pianoes, etc..

2. There was frankly, not much plot. It was purely a straightforward love story. So for someone weaned on those convoluted hongkong dramas and attempting-to-be-convoluted Singapore dramas, this was a second surprise. (shoot me for lack of patriotism)

But i tink, the pt abt this drama is that it was a pioneer. it was the starting pt of a trend of japanese shows that started to hinge on dialogue, 'atmosphere', music, and pure natural acting. the plot is only a vehicle for the actors, not the essence of the show. And the whole drama was really meant to be 'feel-good', with all these fantastic actors, romantic scenes, memorable lines and an indispensable soundtrack.

Undoubtedly Long Vacation IS a classic. Maybe from the wave of jap dramas now it appears a little stale, even boring, but i've hardly come across a show so wonderfully captivating, despite the absence of a viable plot! ( by plot i mean the _-^-_ progession. LV goes like this .....-...
Notwithstanding, it possesses an everlasting appeal.

and then credit to the simply gorgeous actors who proved that good looks are not incompatible with great acting. all the criticism abt Kimura not being able to act is such bull! it takes the most sublime skill to act as THOUGH you're not acting, to be a natural on screen. my hat off to him and all the rest of the cast!!

First of all I live in the U.S., so these vcd's or dvd's are not accessable in my area. I have to drive to San Francisco to Japan town to get these things AND it's not subtitled in English which is the sticking point for me. I supposed you live in Asia where you would have no trouble getting a hold of these doramas. E-bay is the only way for me to get a-hold of these dramas as they are fan-subtitled here in California. The price is reasonable if I look around, I paid $20 US dollars for my most recent purchase for Love Generation in E-bay including shipping and I got it in 3 days. Well, the guy that sold it lived 20 minutes away from me without my knowledge. You probably don't need E-bay to get your doramas, but just take a look at your local E-bay or the US one and you may find some hidden gems. I've purchased numerous things there and the people I deal with are always good and don't try to rip you off.

I agree about the criticism on Kimura just being himself and not really acting. I've only seen him in 2 shows (LV and LG, and I'm planning to purhcase Hero next) but I think his acting is up-to-par with the rest of them and is very convincing in his role. I mean, if he were just to go on his looks alone and is a horrible actor; no one on this forum or anyone else would speak so highly of him.

Hero was one of the show with hugh viewership/rating but I think this one is a bit overrated. The setting and story lines were good. Kimura was very funny. There was an interesting relationship between Kimura and Matsu but they did not dwell on it and therefore it is not clear, just hints at the end! I wish they develop the relationship a little bit more. This show reminded me of many other detactive dramas. (i.e. many mini cases within one drama)

I'd still like to see it, though despite what's been said about it. I'm not much into the crime/investigative types of drama, either, but I like seeing the Kimura/Matsu partnership. Odoru Daisousassen I saw the first couple of episdoes a long time ago and it looked promising and the International Channel went off the air for a couple of months for some reason so I was royally pissed. Where do you live, by the way?

Yeah ! I think LG is the besta nd worth watching drama as everytime as a like. Infact just now I re-watch the drama again when I'm feeling bored and angry and suddenly I can play one songs in guitar and piano. The song when Minami trying to show Senna that she's capable of playing piano (I can't remember that song name) but the song is began with C-Chord. As a hobbies musician I never played a Japanese Songs before and I was surprise by the influence of Long Vacation.

I must say Long Vacation is the best.

Hi,

I brought the packaged Soundtrack CDs (4 CD set) with both the pop and the classical track a while ago. I just loved it! Whenever I please these CDs, LV scenes will show up in my head. I will have to agree that not that many dorama impacted me as much!

I live in Sacramento, California. About 1.5 hours from San Francisco. Guess what, I got lucky with Kazaa this morning and I was able to download the Love Generation theme. I was really happy!

Do you use E-bay? Someone is always selling english-subbed vcd's of Long Vacation (and other doramas). That's how I got mine. Just type Long Vacation and I'm sure it will bring something up.
