^^ Derek Jeter for AVON??? that is so laughable! I mean, if it was with nike or ralph lauren.. i would be thinking about it.. but avon?

Yes lmf you just can't make this stuff up! hehe
Here is some more info on Derek Jeter's new scent that I found over at ESPN.com. Well at least he enlisted some of his favorite women for their opinions. Good move Derek! Applaud

NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter cologne is on the way.

Derek Jeter's cologne will be called Driven.
Avon Products Inc. has signed the New York Yankees shortstop to a deal in which it will create a men's fragrance called Driven -- "reflecting the unique personality of one of the most driven men in America," according to a news release from the company.

The fragrance, the first in a line of men's grooming products bearing Jeter's name, goes on sale in November.

"I have been very involved with creating this fragrance -- everything from the blend of scents to the design of the bottle and logo," Jeter said in the news release. "I did have some help, however. Because women buy a large percentage of the men's grooming products sold in the U.S., I asked my mother Dot and sister Sharlee to be part of the project.

"I wanted to make sure the final product was something men would like to wear -- and that women would want them to wear."

The fragrance is a blend of chilled grapefruit, clean oak moss and spice.

@krim: Did you find your cologne yet?

I forgot to mention that there is a nice site called osMoz.com that has a great fragrance directory. If you go into the Encyclo area they have it broken down into Olfactory Groups and Brands and Fragrances. This is a good reference site for both men's and women's fragrances.

Well since we got on the topic of fragrances in the "I'm Going to Japan" thread I thought I would dig up this thread. Here is an article I found that might interest some of you:

Japanese gadget records, replicates odor

TOKYO — People stopping to smell the roses can now take that sweet floral fragrance home with them or even send it to a faraway grandmother thanks to a new gadget in Japan that records and replicates the world's odors.
The new device, developed by scientists at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, analyzes smells through 15 sensors, records the odor's recipe in digital format and then reproduces the scent by mixing 96 chemicals and vaporizing the result.

Creator Takamichi Nakamoto says the technology will have applications in food and fragrance industries where companies want to replicate odors. But it could also be a boon for the digital world, allowing smells to be recorded in one place — by sensors in a mobile phone, for instance — and transmitted to appreciative noses halfway around the world.

It could also aid online shoppers by letting people check out perfumes or flowers before they buy.

"The sensitivity of the human nose is very good," Nakamoto said. "But to some extent we can replicate the performance."

Nakamoto says his machine, in the works since 1999, is the most advanced of its kind in the world, though a similar project is also underway at Keio University, also in Japan.

But so far, the machine is too big to be portable — it measures about the 1 meter by 3 feet by 2 feet.

Still, the breakthrough follows on the heels of a Japanese Smell-o-vision project that synchronized smells to movie scenes. That odorous project was undertaken by NTT Communications and emitted smells from under seats in two movie theaters to accompany parts of the film The New World, a Hollywood adventure film.

Nakamoto's smell recorder has successfully recreated a range of fruit smells, including oranges, apples, bananas and lemons, but can be reprogrammed to produce almost any odor — from old fish to gasoline, he said.

Making the 15 sensor chips, which pick up aromas and convert them to a digital formula, was the hardest part, Nakamoto added.

But the unit's large size is also a limitation because the 96 odor-forming chemicals are contained in separate glass bottles. A more compact version, which includes only the sensors, can record smells but must be hooked up to the blender to regenerate them.

"We also want extend the range of smells, and then we can think about commercializing the system," Nakamoto said.

Nakamoto's team of 12 scientists have been collaborating with a Japanese perfume company that produces the raw ingredients for fragrances and with electronics companies interested in the sensor chip technology.

That's pretty cool. Thumbsup

It might be cheaper than quality perfume too.

I bumped this thread up for The_Lyrics. Have fun! w00t!

Just remember that when you test any fragrance on your skin allow it time to dry down so that you can smell all of the notes that are in it and how it reacts with your body chemistry. Keep sniffing it on your wrist (a pulse point) throughout the whole day and then see if you really like it before purchasing it.

is there a faster way, since i kinda wanna get one when i go and test out for some. or would be alot better to let it sit in for a day.
hmmm, any recommendation to some good ones, like good for day/night time or just to go out. no strong scent, i was browsing around and though of getting a lacoste one.

Good brand. Smile For the first time, it's much better to buy on site, because it can smell great on someone and stinks on someone else. Like Enna said, you can try it for free to make sure it reacts well. You can try The Bay or Sears, they should have it.

I wish I could be more helpful, but perfume makes me sneeze, so I don't wear any. Puppy Dog Eyes

if you're just testing, use Enna's suggestion of the wrists. Works great for me, and you'll be able to smell each wrist individually w/o much contamination.

Thanks krim! Thanx! Not on your shoulder. Always spray on a pulse point. Try your wrists first. That way if you don't care for the scent it is far away from your nose. Don't stain your shirt. Be sure and remember which scent is on which wrist. hehe Also any good fragrance counter should have a tester bottle and test paper strips to spray on first. Really good counters should have small bowls of coffee beans to sniff to clear your nose between the different scents. Ask the clerk for help. Good Luck! Thumbsup

i prefer the "ask any nearby cute girl who doesn't have a huge muscular guy hanging off her for an opinion" method, rather than the "ask the store clerk for help" method.
