I'd chalk that up to luck more than intangibles. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. There's a reason that actors with "chemistry" can't duplicate that even when paired up again. |
It worked for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle & You've Got Mail. (Maybe even Joe Versus the Volcano, but then again maybe not. )

I thought about those two, but You've Got Mail pales considerably against Sleepless in Seattle.

I suppose it would, for those who believe in kismet and The One and all that. (I don't.) SiS is incredibly romantic, I'll give it that (and the Hanks/Ryan chemistry is unmistakable despite their limited scenes together), but they get to interact more on YGM and you really see how their relationship develops--which for me is paramount to a great love story.

Lol, it took me a while for the Kidman/Cruise => Days of Thunder => ENGINE Rainbow Connection to sink in. (At least you're not entirely off-topic, yay. )
OT:
I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but they should've titled the drama ORPHAN instead of ENGINE. The racetrack action was a bit of a letdown as most of the action was situated in the foster home (although I'm not complaining!).

That would be true in most cases, but not for Mail, IMO. Their relationship seemed forced and contrived... And not very romantic.
Oh, and back to the drama at hand: it was average at best... The kids were more interesting than the adults, as was the auto racing, which there wasn't enough of.

It was actually tongue in cheek, I hadn't thought of that.
Oh, and if you start singing like Kermit, i'm outta here

Yeah, racetrack action was pretty slim. There was more of Kimutaku racing around in the bus, if anything

I didn't think he had either quality.

Thus the quotation marks. However, when in absence just manufacture it through narrowed scriptwriting, which brings us back to the fallacy of "chemistry". They goofed in Engine by giving the kids more latitude and it resulted in them walking over the star.

I missed that: I read it as a title as opposed to sarcasm.

no well, i dont think anyone is saying it was bad cus the kids were sweet and everything but i think the general opinion, well at least mine is that it wasn't as good as it could or should have been _________________
