Read this article for an interview with Yukiyoshi. He actually makes a comment in regards to putting his hands in his pockets! Aya: Was that you that noticed his tendancy to do that?

No it wasn't me. I think it was either zEn or Brenda. Not sure which one. Thanks shek55 for the article. Thanx!

Hey All!

That's a good point about the stereotype in Japan about being to muscle-bound. But do you think he's the vain type, or maybe he just buffed up so he could be convincing as a gym teacher? Actors are always changing their appearance for a role, maybe this is the case... I'd rather think it's that than think such a handsome and talented guy is vain. Applaud

Also Enna, let me explain why I loved the "English Scene" so much and why I thought it was convincing. The English felt appropriate to me because it seemed like Katsuragi wanted to make his emotional point so emphatic that he switched to Robby's native language so that Robby would know how serious this was. I thought Katsuragi switched so there could be a different and perhaps deeper level of communication between he and Robby. I loved it. It was like they opened a new dialogue. My jaw was on the floor, and my eyes were bugged outta my head! Shocked
I'll say it again: I loved it!

Can't wait to see what happens next when Katsuragi sees Sakura again after her much-needed breakdown. I bet he'll take one look in her eyes, and know that her heart was broken. Which I predict will make him melt for her even more. Then maybe she will finally start to sense that he has feelings for her........only now she'll realize that she no longer has that corny ring on her finger! w00t!

I'm at work tonight so I'll be able to check back often. Hopefully y'all are online!

zEn

Zen: Oh I didnt know it was a japanese sterotype...i thought it was a sterotype in general. I like my guys flabby and lazy so I will always be the skinny one. Just kidding!!!! But in most japanese dramas ive seen the guys are very thin and dont have any muscle tone.

This probably goes without saying but dont miss the next episode on sunday. ;)You'll see some of what you expect....

Aya: I just watched the trailer for the tenth time so far... w00t! I need to check a foreign film viedo store to rent this film. I also clicked on the link to email the distributor to see if I can purchase it. I was watching some of the early Sakura episodes and I forgot how built Yukiyoshi is! Very impressive but the sterotype there is if a guy is so built he might be superficial and too into his looks. What do you think?

I never associated a man being well built with being superficial and too into his looks. Now if he is a competitive body builder than he is probably obsessed with his looks. Ozawa was built up just enough for his part in "Sakura." Not too muscle bound. Maybe I feel this way because I have dated men that have exercised regularly and taken good care of their bodies without being vain or superficial. Flabby guys are a turn off for me.

Ohh I understand why you and everyone else loved the "English scene" in " Sakura" I really do. I knew that the director was going for just that effect that you mentioned. That he was trying to reach Roby at his deepest level . Katsuragi was trying to get through to him at his very core. It just felt too "staged " and too abrupt to me. I can't explain it any better than that. We all don't have to love the same scenes, that is O.K. That is what makes us the unique, individual Cheesoramas that we are! Big Grin Thanks for explaining your point of view zEn. It is always good to see things through another person's eyes. Smile

Shek55,

I didn't mean that stereotype was only Japanese, but perhaps such thinking is more common there being that America is so preoccupied with appearance anyway. We here are used to people being materialistic. Our society is seemingly obsessed with the material. How else do you explain the constant fascination with celebrity and wealth? So (before I get started!) I wouldn't be surprised if this stereotype was more common in other countries.

But again, I don't wanna think such a thing of our friend Ozawa-san. :o) I'll bet he's got a NICE chest! All smooth and such.... tee-hee!

Anywayz, it's thursday so I've begun my countdown to Sakura-day. 3 days and counting!

SAAAY CHEEEEEEZE!

zEn

Not quite sure I followed you on that one zEn. Did you mean that in Japan he (Ozawa) would seem overly superficial if he were well built? Whereas in the USA it is more the norm to have our celebrities be superficial? Confused

What I was trying to say was that such a stereotype doesn't seem to exist much here in the US thanks in part to our society's obsession with materialism. Now, I haven't traveled the whole world over, but the few places I have been seemed not to be so preoccupied with appearance....like many of the Americans I'm around have a tendency to be. Therefore it seems that if a person pays a lot of attention to their appearance and physique - in America they may not seem vain --- but maybe in another country they would. Then such a person could conceivably fall under that stereotype of being "too materialistic and self-absorbed".

Then again maybe I've been here in NYC too long and am overdue for a trip back to the Midwest!

Did I 'splain that better? I'm sorry...I'm at work and it's mind-numbingly boring tonight. bleh I'm supposed to be answering the phones, but they aren't even ringing so I'm cyber-shopping for shoes...*sigh*

Hey now zEn don't fall asleep in the middle of our discussion here . LOL!
Now I understand what you mean. Yes we 'Mericans sure do like to primp don't we. Sometimes when I can't sleep at night, it seems that every other infomercial is for diet, exercise, magic facial youth cream or some other form of external self-improvement. I agree in other cultures all of that attention to a buff body might come off as overly vain. Yes NYC can have that effect on a person, can't it? Shake Head

MAGIC FACIAL YOUTH CREAM! LOL!!!! rofl now THAT'S a good one!

It's true though. Every infomercial is either for a fantastic work-out machine/gizmo/DVD set, diet pills, super-slimming underclothes... or ...yes...You Guessed It: MAGIC FACIAL YOUTH CREAM!!! Lol! I love that one! Just say it out loud in your best infomercial announcer voice, and you'll see why I think it's so funny. It sounds like a real product description!

I like to watch those infomercials though because it'll take less than 3 minutes for them to do or say something so ridiculous that it cracks me up!
It's sad. But FUNNY! Hyuck Hyuck!

I'm bored Aya. I wanna watch Sakura!!! I wanna see Ozawa-san!!! I wanna have some cheeez with my wine!!!

Oh well. I'm stuck here till midnight. Thanks for the great laugh! :oP

*sigh*

Only one more hour to go zEn. Hang in there!!!! Glad I could make you laugh. Yes I wish "Sakura" came on TV more often. I also wish the show lasted a liitle longer. I am spoiled by our hour long shows. Maybe one day we will be able to see Ozawa in an American TV series now that we know he has a deep voice when he speaks English. Plus he does anger well in English so he would fit right into one of our Police/ Detective/ Hospital/ Crime Fighting/ Murder Mystery primetime shows. I coud see him as a doctor or a forensic specialist with his hands in his pockets or not. Well we know he can play a school teacher, don't we? Ahhh Katsuragi sensei where were you when I was in school ? Nut

As I look at this link more clearly, it seems that they are a film distributor and not a DVD retailer... Sad May this is why I havent heard from them. I cant find a copy of this movie for sale with english subtitles so far.

Hi Zen!
Join us over on the other forum. We've posted some things over there. I also posted some news on Sakura Butai(a continuation of Sakura but performed as a play at Tokyo's Meji-za theater).
