Osamu Mukai and Hairi Katagiri cast in movie 'Onadera no Ototo, Onadera no Ane'
Actor Mukai Osamu and actress Katagiri Hairi will play siblings in the movie 'Onodera no Ototo, Onodera no Ane' directed by Nishida Masafumi and to be released in the fall this year.
The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Nishida, who was previously in charge of the script for "Youkai Ningen Bem" starring Kamenashi Kazuya, and anime "TIGER & BUNNY".
'Onodera no Ototo, Onodera no Ane' will be his first time directing.
Just last summer, the novel was adapted into a play with a different story featuring both Mukai and Katagiri, and now, it will be made into a film with the same story from the original novel this time.
The story is about a pair of siblings who live together in a tiny house, and make awkward attempts to bring each other happiness. Mukai commented, "The director wrote the original and the screenplay, so I think I will look forward to how he brings out the interesting parts from among the lines as we shoot the movie." As for his relationship with his "older sister" in the movie, he said, "It is charming how they think too much of each other and each clumsily cares for the other".

Osamu Mukai to appear in movie 'Otoko no Isshou'
Mukai Osamu will appear in the film "Otoko no Isshou" (directed by Hiroki Ryuichi). The film is set for release next year.
Eikura Nana and Toyokawa Etsushi star in the film, which depicts a mature romance that stems from an unhappy 30-something Tsugumi (played by Eikura) who is courted by 50-something professor Kaieda (played by Toyokawa). Mukai plays Tsugumi's former flame with whom she had an affair, and he throws her relationship with Kaeida into disarray.
This marks the second time Mukai is working with director Hiroki as he has appeared in "Kiiroi Zou" (released in 2013).
He took on the challenge in a scene in which he exchanges blows with Toyokawa over Eikura. Mukai stated, "Toyokawa-san is much more experienced and who I want to steal a lot of his acting skills from, so I would like to co-star with him again."
Additionally, it was also announced Ando Sakura will be a part of the film.

Osamu Mukai to start in drama SP "Eien no Zero"
Mukai Osamu appeared at the press conference of his new TV Tokyo drama SP "Eien no Zero" at Shizuoka on 29 June. To match the image of his character, Mukai had to shave his head which he commented that he was fine with it and felt comfortable in this new hairstyle although he didn't think that he was suitable for such a look. This was also the first time that Mukai had shaved his hair when he appeared in the 2007 movie "Ore wa, kimi no tame ni koso shini iku"
The drama SP which is based on the bestseller novel by Hyakuta Naoki and had its movie version starring V6's Okada Junichi released in December 2013, will be broadcast over three nights in 2015.

Mukai Osamu to star in TBS Special
Mukai Osamu will be starring in the TBS New Year drama SP titled "Wagaie" which will be shown at 9pm on 4 Jan 2014. The theme of the drama is "ie ni kaerou. isshoni kaerou" which means "Let's return home together" and talks about the members in the Sakuragi family who live apart but have reunited at their family home near the beach.
Mukai plays the role of Sakurai Ippo who works at a human resource rental company i.e. one which allows customers to rent people to pose as their friends, lovers or family members. He bears a deep hatred for his father (Nagatsuka Kyozo) who walked out on the family. One day, Ippo has to return to his hometown where his mother Taiko (Tanaka Yuko) is still staying at as his younger sister Honoka (Murakawa Eri) is getting married soon. However, he is shocked to see his father who had not been in touch with them for 20 years showing up unannounced at their family home.
On November 20, it was reported that actor Mukai Osamu (32) and actress Kuninaka Ryoko (35) will be getting married. They are expected to register their marriage next month.
The two started dating after co-starring in Fuji TV's drama 'Hungry!' in 2012. From the very beginning of their relationship, they were already taking marriage into consideration.
According to a relevant person, "they've talked about marriage before, about 2 years ago," but Mukai was extremely busy at that time starring in dramas, movies, and stage plays without rest. From before, Kuninaka had been saying, "As a woman, I want to have children." Mukai decided that "he couldn't make her wait anymore".
Sources say that Mukai has already informed his actor friends that he will be getting married. He also invited Kuninaka to a dinner party with the cast of his drama, where he made the announcement of their engagement. Some people who witnessed the announcement said, "I didn't think he would really call Kuninaka-san. I was moved by his manly charms and how he confidently talked in front of everyone."
The couple has not planned a wedding ceremony or reception at this time.

Osamu Mukai to star in Asahi TV 2015 Fall drama
Mukai Osamu will be starring in the upcoming TV Asahi Autumn 2015 drama "Isan Sozoku" (The family who fights over the inheritance) which will begin its run from October in the Thursdays 9pm timeslot. The drama which is written by Inoue Yumiko, features Mukai as a medical intern named Sato Ikuo who marries into a matrillineal family in the funeral business and gets embroiled in the fight for the inheritance. Despite being subjected to verbal abuse by his in-laws and other members of his wife's family, Sato has no interest in joining the fight for the inheritance and also can't be bothered about the workplace politics at the hospital he works at. As a result of his reluctance to get involved in the controversy, it gradually brings about a change in his in-laws' family.
This will be Mukai's first leading role in a TV Asahi drama and his first playing a son-in-law. His wife Kaede will be played by Eikura Nana who was divorced at the young age of 23 and is doted on by her grandfather who is the chairman of the family business Kawamura Memorial. Sato will then be Kaede's second husband. Having worked with Eikura many times, Mukai said that he is at ease working with her and feels that their collaborations so far will help them play a married couple well this time.
Co-stars include Kishibe Ittoku who plays the father-in-law of Sato and had also married into the family like him, Ito Shiro who plays the grandfather of Kaede, Yo Kimiko, Muroi Shigeru, Itaya Yuka, Kishimoto Kayoko, Suzuki Kosuke and Watanabe Ikkei.

Osamu Mukai to star in TBS 2016 Summer drama
Mukai Osamu will be starring in the new TBS Summer 2016 drama "Kami no shita wo motsu otoko" (The man who has God's tongue) which will be shown from July in the Fridays 10pm timeslot.
The drama will be directed by Tsutsumi Yukihiko who is famous for works such as the Keizoku series and TRICK series and features Kimura Fumino as Mukai's partner in the drama. It is said that this drama had been planned by Tsutsumi for 20 years and is an original work talking about how a trio go on the search for a legendary geisha at an onsen but finds themselves embroiled in various cases during their journey. Mukai plays the role of a naive and geeky man named Asanaga Ranmaru who is able to detect the composition of items just by tasting them thus is nicknamed "God's Tongue". Kimura plays Kamekanbo Hikari who is a big fan of 2-hour suspense dramas and works with Ranmaru and Miyazawa Kanji (Sato Jiro) to solve the cases they encounter.
Filming began in early March and is largely done at various hot spring resorts.

Osamu Mukai and Takumi Saito to star in WOWOW drama
Mukai Osamu and Saito Takumi will be the double leads in the new WOWOW drama "Akira to Akira" (Akira and Akira) which will begin its run from July in the Sundays 10pm timeslot. The drama is based on the same-titled novel by Ikeido Jun which was first serialised between 2006 and 2009 in the monthly novel magazine "Mondai Shosetsu" before Ikeido gave it an overhaul and will be releasing it in the novel book format for the first time on 31 May. As such, this marks the "fastest" real-life adaptation for WOWOW since the original material's release. This will be WOWOW's 4th adaptation of a Ikeido work since 2011's "Shitamachi Rocket" and the longest drama to date i.e. 9 episodes.
The story which is set during the days of the bubble economy, begins in April 1986 where Kaidou Akira (Mukai) who is an elite born as the heir of a large company Tokai Yuusen. On the other hand, his genius classmate from University of Tokyo, Yamazaki Akira had a tough life due the bankruptcy of his father's company and having to run away from creditors but overcomes the odds to graduate from the top-notch school. The two of them enter the same bank and gets caught in a battle lasting over 10 years which causes upheavals in their lives.
As this is the 4th time that Mukai and Saito are working together, Mukai revealed that as they are both of the same age, they have always chatted a lot during their free time but he did have the feeling that Saito was a strange person when they first met. Although this is the first time that they will be clashing on screen, he thinks that it will be enjoyable and fascinating at the same time. He also commented that he will go to his uncle for advice as the latter worked as a bank employee in that era.
On the other hand, Saito will be making a change to his usual straggly hairstyle so as to look convincing as a bank employee. He expressed his joy at being able to work with Mukai again in this drama which describes a special period in Japan's history and will offer a different insight into the past and future when viewed in this era.
