Synopsis
"Big Money!" is a human drama with a suspense twist about a young man who learns the tricks of the trade about stock exchange from a well-experienced investor. The backdrop of this story is the elaborate world of banking and the stock market.

Norimichi Shirato (Nagase) lives off the money his parents send him, and his winnings at pachinko while waiting to find permanent employment. One day, Shirato is recruited by a mysterious elderly gentleman by the name of Taihei Kozuka (Ueki). Shirato later finds out that the small, yet mild mannered Kozuka was once a legendary trader.

Although clouded by the mystery surrounding Kozuka, Shirato begins to work for him. In time, Shirato finds himself being mesmerized by the wave of numbers of the market.

Sometime later, Shirato learns Kozuka's real intentions...he wants to bankrupt one of the world's leading banks, Matsuba Bank.

The two men of very different ages then try to go up against Matsuba and the elite bankers that work at the giant Matsuba such as Fumihiko Yamazaki (Taizo Harada).

1. It's got its premises [Rating: 8/10]
@@The background to this drama is of course money, mostly in the form of stocks. But that is misleading because this drama is about revenge, justice, and getting even, and even goes a bit into the human psyche (but lots of J Dramas delve into that aspect anyway, it's just a matter of being blatant or not). It's entertaining in a way to see them talk about money in terms of billions of yen, as if money grew on trees. It's also interesting to see how they can try to bring down the antagonist and the bank as well. Again, don't watch this from a realist's position, but rather sit back and let this entertain you, and you just might enjoy it. It's got all the elements of an emotionally fast paced drama filled with cliffhangers each episode. There were misses of course, such as the irrelevent love story that sidetracked the plot, and worse, the seemingly impossibility of always going against the same bank every time. It's a typical root for the hero to win kind of drama.

I often say that one of the (many) reasons why I like J-dramas so much is the incredibly vast variety of genres and of topics they address, and the great freedom the writers have. Now, this dorama is a perfect example of that! Where else could you have a whole series depicting banks for what they really are (the portmanteau "banksters" immediately comes to mind!) and thus having a bank's big gun as the villain, all the while having as the totally improbable heroes an old guy, a young and inexperienced fellow and two incredibly funny yakuza? Nowhere else, ne? ^_^;
Particularly worthy of praise, as always, Nagase Tomoya's performance, but also Kohinata Fumiyo's and Matsushige Yutaka's - who add some much needed comic relief moments (plus, one of the most tragic and romantic scenes ever!) - and last but not least, Okamoto Aya's; besides, she's to die for in this, period. The only reason why I don't give this beautiful dorama a full 10/10 is (WARNING: little SPOILER ahead!) that I'm a bit dissatisfied with the ending; after having built up all that tension with such a despicable S.O.B. of villain, I'd personally want said villain to be utterly crushed, disgraced, humiliated, destroyed at the end (Kusturica's "Black Cat, White Cat" comes to mind, if you know what I'm saying, LOL). This "let's give the guy a hand" just doesn't sit right with me...

Who says that stocks can't be made into a fast-paced, entertaining drama? They did it in an American movie with G. Rabisi and they're doing it in a drama called Big Money! in Japan! Nagase Tomoya plays yet another quick-mouthed, young, listless guy looking for something to do, but the scenario of Big Money! is AT FIRST, different from his others, but quickly falls into the typical quick-mouthed, lackdaisical youth. By episode 3, you begin to see that Nagase is to be the hero with various too-staged scenarios of needy people and money. It's enjoyable except for that.

Finished the whole series in 30 hours! At first i don't think i will love this series too much when i read the synopsis but that's wrong.This fast paced drama got me hooked and can't wait to know what will happen in each episode.Tomoya Nagase is a great chosen for the hero role cause he made me enjoy this series even more.If you like inspirational story like Koi ni Ochitara you will love this series too.

Great plot, good acting, wonderful tension, and at the end of the day, one can even learn something about the stock market as well as the banking system (in Japan). What more can you ask from a Japanese dorama? Enjoyed it very much, finished the whole thing in 2 days! :p

Very average drama, slow and doesn't delve deeply into stockbroking. Not sure why I finished it. Nagase Tomoya looked cool but not much else. Harada Taizo was mildly interesting but ultimately unconvincing in the rogue trader role, and the girls only provided eye candy.

the financial topic was interesting, although some aspects are very unrealistic and false (banking system, law). the cast was great, even the side roles! worth watching.

Very well done drama. Not so much about stocks and banks as it is about the little guy beating the big guy.
