Synopsis
Makimura Kimiko, freelance journalist and city-girl extraordinaire, marries into a traditional Japanese family. Most overbearing of the Yamamoto Family members is Isojiro's mother, Shimako, who seems to think Kimiko is the perfect wife whose knowledge of the traditional Japanese arts knows no bounds. Kimiko on the other hand is sloppy, a bad cook unless it happens to be microwavable, and couldn't tell a shamisen from a bagpipe if her life depended on it. Bombarded by customs, Kimiko's only desire is to never step foot in the Main House again. But with the interference of her husband, Isojiro, who can't seem to say no to his mother, Kimiko finds herself back in a place she calls Hell and smack in the midst of some crazy tradition her in-laws want her to participate in.

1. not all that bad... [Rating: 8/10]
after watching the first episode, i was like, "divorce!" because no way could i stand the troubles that Kimiko's husband put her through with his family. i mean really, i was pretty damned annoyed and i didn't see how i could even finish watching a drama like this. and i felt the same after episode 2 and episode 3... but next thing you know, just as Kimiko had discovered, you start to really get into this quirky family and just accepting them for who they are. next thing i knew, i ended up enjoying the series and actually liking characters.

Iso: yes, still willy nilly and no backbone, but loving and has the best intentions.
Oka-sama: she misunderstands a lot, but she has got to be the nicest lady around!
Oto-sama: loved him. "hmmph!"
even that mean ass sister and annoying cousin grew on me. it was the first "bride & mother-in-law" drama i've seen, so i don't have nothing to compare it to. but as a drama itself, i found it enjoyable, funny, and endearing as it ended.

3. JDorama from hell [Rating: 2/10]
The "mother-in-law, spouse, roommate, etc from hell" storyline has been done to death, and at best, I was expecting a recycling of that idea with Yukie's face & humor to liven it up, but this is a stinkeroo bomb. The writing is subpar and the actors basically have nowhere to go. They're spinning in the same mediocre circle, episode after episode. There's no one to hate, no one to cheer on, no one to be sympathetic with, no one to laugh at, nothing. Just run of the mill people put in dumb situations, being annoying, and the supposed endearing thing of all this is the family shows their love because they feel sorry for each other. They should feel sorry for the viewer.

4. ichiban suki desu!! [Rating: 10/10]
I didn't expect much when I buy this dorama, and simply watch it because I just love Nakama Yukie. However, it turned out to be extremely hilarous right from the very first minute. You can't get bored watching it!!
You will also find this the cast for Isojiro, Tanihara Sousuke (Lovely Complex - Maity, Otousan) very funny. He's doing great!! From the title you might guess that the mother is so evil that Kimiko (Nakama) does not want to be near with, but just in opposite, she is very nice and adorable that if you can't say no. To refuse or hurt her feelings will make you feel very guilty.
Highly recommended!!

6. Traditional bride [Rating: 8/10]
It's so hard to be a traditional bride, there are so many tradition that you have to follow and how you'll make a good interaction with your husband's family. I love almost all of the character here, of course yukie and shosuke are included.

It's not very funny and the storyline is nothing much, but it's just for light viewing.

I'm still in the process of watching this series, but so far I'm unimpressed with the script. Nakama Yukie is her typical self in this drama about a woman who gets married and has to adapt to her husband's very traditional family. The plot is pretty predictable and the characterizations overly cliche. In fact, after watching a few episodes I found that all of the characters began to grate on my nerves a bit. The thing that I found most interesting about this drama is the Japanese traditions that are imposed onto Yukie's character by the mother versus her very modern self. In that aspect, I thought the drama succeeded.

I love Matsusaka Keiko, she's such an awesome actress. The plot of the drama was great sometimes, but also kind of gets old after a while. I got really sick of all the characters thinking Kimiko is so great =P The good parts of the drama are its hilarious and touching moments. The downside is that there are also A LOT of cheesy moments (eeuck). I kind of started to like the theme song, but unfortunately, I can't find anywhere to download it >.<

After 2 to 3 episodes you will probably get tired of the same treatment - the wife get called by her mom-in-law reluctantly going back home to perform some traditional duties for the family, in the process, the husband messes things up and the wife would save the day. This is supposed to be a comedy but I don't find it funny at all. In the end, I wonder if the wife should keep her hubby as her little brother instead.

......it's still funny at ep. 3......
lovely garden, rich family, a husband who is not the eldest son, a husband who doesn't call his wife an idiot, a dotting mother-in-law and a 'constipated' father-in-law ("nggh"), why is it hell ? that's heaven :)

Does anyone know where is the filming location of the Yamamoto family. I thought the neighbourhood looks so Kyoto.

Great performance by "Isojiro" and family, but the situations i.e. misunderstandings repeat themselves over and over again. A nice and warm drama that is pleasant to watch, but you won't really find the urge to watch the next episode, which is a problem for me because I watch dramas very slowly, one episode per day.
7. Comments by williu [Rating: 6/10]
This just isn't good. Nakama Yukie's charisma alone isn't enough to make a drama worth watching. It tries hard to be funny, but only occasionally succeeds. There is close to zero character development, and you just don't identify or like any of them. The story had lots of potential, but didn't even come close.
8. Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 5/10]
One of those stressful dramas that's only funny the opening episode and then just irritates you. These dramas are never original instead repetetive & predictable. Those who like dramas such as "Perfect bride" might enjoy this. Otherwise I only recommend this one for die hard fans of Nakama Yukie.
9. Comments by Susan [Rating: 8/10]
When I originally watched the first episode of this drama I dropped it out of boredom and disinterest. But a year later I picked it up again and finished it anyways! Overall it wasn't bad. It had it's dull and irritating moments but I enjoyed the cultural tidbits and it was good in a way.
10. Comments by Anime Dad [Rating: 7/10]
Yukie tries hard in this drama, but is let down by some poor acting by some of her co-stars - most notably Tanihara Shosuke, who plays her mummy's-boy husband Isojiro. Much better are Hamada Mari as Yukie's sister-in-law, and Matsuzaka Keiko as the mother-in-law.

Shows in which the main male character is a mamas boy who has no spine is not new, but at least there is someone to straighten him out. But Nakama Yukie's character just lets him be the wuss he is. Pathetic. I couldn't even finish the second episode.

Very funny! I esp loved Tanihara Shosuke's character. Very unlike his role in Shinsengumi. It just shows his versatility as an actor, ne?
And I like the way the series showed the clash and merging of traditional and modern japanese.

plot is weak, repetitive and predictable, quite unfortunate because the drama has quite a good actors/actresses in the cast. oh,i would also so dump the unreliable husband.
14. Comments by loveaomori [Rating: 3/10]
nothing new. Similar to "double kitchen" but in much much worse. It's boring. I didn't cry, didn't laugh didn't feel anything watching it.

Funny family show. Nakama Yukie and her in-laws' family hijinx were funny to watch but I always got frustrated with her dumb husband.
