Synopsis
Iki Tadashi is a military leader who was captured by the Soviets during World War II. Treated as a war criminal, he was sentenced to many years of labor in a harsh Siberian detention camp. After 11 years of imprisonment, he is released. He returns to Japan and begins readjusting to life as a civilian, rejecting an offer from his former colleague to work on a defense project. Tadashi has decided to never involve himself in war again, much to the joy of his family. Instead, he attempts to set off on a new path working at a major trading company.

This drama is a remake after the original that aired in 1979.

1. How Itochu Corp transform itself. [Rating: 8/10]
This is a remake of the 1979 TBS version. Fumo Chitai is basically an autobiography of Ryuzo Sejima who was the Chairman of Itochu Corp from 1978-1987.The story incorporates the history of Itochu Corp from a textile trading firm to a major trading firm. Since Fumo Chitai is not an official biography, all the names have been changed (but the fictional names do rhyme with the real ones and it's not difficult to guess). Like all Yamazaki Toyoko's works, it promises excitment, revelation, lessons all rolled into 19 episodes that will keep us at the edge of our seats. Is there any plot that will spoil the drama ? Yes, Koyuki-san. I'm sorry but I believe a good drama doesn't require a pretty vase to enhance.

This is actually quite good but I can't help the feeling of the overwhelming smell of a whitewash. Obviously this is not factual but the drama glosses over some important points to make our hero look good: 1. The spy allegation. 2. Sawajima is made to look like a 2 dimensional pantomime villain but in spite of this Endou Kenichi does well to portray his character.3. It doesn't show his wife's side of the story. 4.The wartime military elites seem to continue to hold important posts after the war. 5.Much of the contract work seems to be tied up with military contracts like the trucks for the Indonesian army and the procurement of F-14 jet fighters for Iran. And yet this is ushered into the background. 5. The treatment of Koide by the company.6. Just what role and responsibilty did Iki Tadashi have during the war.So for me the drama losses marks because of this.Other than that the cast was excellent and the actors apart from Koyuki and Amami Yuki, were aged well by the make up crew, those 2 didn't look any different as the years passed.

wow, Iki Tadashi was really a great man. My eyes filled with tears at the end of epi 19, when he said "i never done anything to this country" although he already did some great thing for Japan and sacrifice some of his life for it

Well scripted, with a perfect cast and high production values. This showpiece was riveting start to finish.
