1. Good detective series with some comedy [Rating: 8/10]
Galileo is a good detective series, structured with one new case by episode.
The cases are interesting and captivating, either because you cannot figure out how it happened and need to watch it till the end, or because you know how it happened but you wonder how the detective and the scientist are going to figure it out.

The cast is great, with very good acting by everybody, especially from Shibasaki Kou who surprised me again with her very natural acting. The many cameos add also some fun to the watching.

There is comedy in the series as well, which makes it a very good mix of mystery, comedy, drama, a touch of romance (really a touch :-) for a good detective series.

The only thing that bothered me was the fact that the scientist always needed to write equations to solve the cases. That was total nonsense, especially if you can read the equations and see how stupid they are. Anyway, that's only 1 minute in the show so learned to endure it.

I compare this dorama to "Hero" more than "Trick". There are mysteries that seem magic as in Trick but the real point of the series is the character development, as in Hero. I also compare it to the American series "numb3rs" although I think Galileo is much more fun to watch.
So go for it, you'll find something to enjoy in Galileo !

2. Way better than I thought [Rating: 8/10]
The first thing I thought when I first started watching this drama was, gO no, theyfre trying to recreate Trick!h

After watching a few more episodes, I decided this wasnft such a bad thing because they were pulling it off very well. I found each of the mysteries quite fascinating and although some gimmicks were a little tiresome, on the whole I quite enjoyed the various plots.

It was nice to see Kou-chan in such a refreshing role. Ifve been a big fan of hers for a while but she always seems to fly just below the radar. I think Ifll bite the bullet and finally vote for her. This was my first drama with Fukuyama Masaharu and I think Ifm in love. I donft know if itfs HIM or his character, but he was very attractive in this drama and played the perfect Galileo.

From all the dramas Ifve seen, this one had the most elaborate, and the strongest, supporting cast. It was fun to see many familiar faces pop up and I found myself anxious to see who would appear in the next episode.

Overall, the drama is somewhat forgettable in the sense that it didnft quite reach the status of Trick, but it was enjoyable to watch and I had some fun with it.

3. truly amusing...... [Rating: 7/10]
An amusing drama yet at the same time somewhat disappointing as I was rather anticipating the masaharu/kou pair-up. Plots were reasonably well crafted although some of the material in the series didn't seem to fit. As a physics professor, yukawa sensei doesn't seem to focus on any one research field and conducts experiments from all over the field of physics which seems rather unrealistic. His sudden inspirations when he starts scribbling equation also seems a bit far-fetched as his equations sometimes don't seem to be related to the topic but I suppose I may be expecting too much from the series. Overall though, this was a pretty decent series with a nice, light tone.

4. Worth Watching [Rating: 8/10]
The first episode hit me, and hit me hard. I would've almost wanted to give it a ten if I had rated this based on the first episode. There was chemistry between the two leads, comedic bits, and clever crime fiction always makes it on my list. However, after ten episodes of the same plot pattern and same one-liners, I had to drop my score. One can get too much of the Yukawa Sudden Inspiration sequence, and one definitely gets an overdose of Utsumi's (Shibasaki Kou) annoying voice and manner.

It's definitely something worth watching, but I wouldn't watch it again.

5. Passion and Science [Rating: 10/10]
A truly interesting plot with a crossover of Science and Criminalogy. On the other hand, this is totally different from the the American CSI-type investigation series which are more heavy bloody real-life cases.
Galileo is a story of imagination, passion and a little touch of love. There is also good chemistry between Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou. You will definitely feel good after watching each episode of the whole series.

6. Worth A Watch [Rating: 7/10]
Using physics to solve murder cases is a nice fresh idea in a detective drama. The first and last few episodes are the cooler cases though. Whoever thought up the ideas for each case has got to be a genius! Personally, it would have been more attention grabing if there had been a bit more suspense.

I loved the main characters' chemistry - probably my favorite thing about the show.

I didn't like the thinking/physics montages, but I really enjoyed the cinematography otherwise. They made it feel like the director/writers were trying to dumb it down too much for us regular folks - like the professor was so far above anyone that even looking at his logic couldn't possibly make sense to mere mortals. I'm okay with that.. but then don't use a bunch of silly drawings and compulsive writing to accomplish it.

Some of the early eps were weak - but I think at least 4 near the end were really good. I really enjoyed seeing the professor's growth and the subtle changes Kou's character made as she got exposed to more and more logic from the prof.

She was a little juvenile at times - I would have liked to see her being a more authoritative, even if she was just a rookie. She felt a little too comic at times, for the reason she was bumbling around.

She is so cute <blush>

Loved the professor - I think he was great all around, though I could have done without his post-montage poses... I really didn't like that part, can you tell?

Fun show! It gets the nod.

A mystery drama whose main characters are a quirky scientist and a rookie female cop. The high points of this drama are the cameos made by famous Jdrama actors and actresses in each episode - ie in one episode Hirosue Ryoko plays a woman whose husband has gone missing, in another episode Fukada Kyoko plays a dedicated wife whose husband ends up having an affair and she divorces him soon after. The other high point of this drama is the interactions between Galileo and Kyoko. It's cute.

The stories in this series are pretty interesting, in fact some of them are downright chilling, especially episode 1. They can be very dark. Aside from that, the episode itself is formulaic and it's very predictable after you watch the first two episodes. Crime happens, rookie asks for Galileo's help against the wishes of the assistant professor, Galileo has many hypotheses, one small thing triggers him and he starts writing all these equations, etc.

Overall, this is a great show to watch if you enjoy mysteries and it is a lot better than most of the mysteries that Japan has been airing recently. I recommend it, however it still pales in comparison to "Keizoku".

After watching that crap of Mr. Brain, this is the best antidote for keeping enjoying with japanese crime doramas like this one, where a novice detective (Kou Shibasaki - Orange Days - 2004) will need the help of an arrogant and enigmatic physicist (Masaharu Fukuyama) to solve some strange and mysterious cases. A kind of Trick but using physics, less funny than the duo Hiroshi Abe & Yukie Nakama, but more similar to the american crime tv shows, proving that even in Japan it's also possible to achieve that high level of quality. Thumbs up for it, this is one of the most interesting doramas about this genre I have watched. This show is absolutely food for the neurons, and a good way to review my physics classes. Thanks to Galileo, Japan has already its new Grissom (CSI Las Vegas).
Glad to see some great cameos here like: Toshiaki Karasawa (Roosselvelt Game - 2014), Ryoko Hirosue (Summer Snow - 2000), Shingo Katori (Kazoku no Katachi - 2016), Miki Mizuno (Beautiful Life - 2000) or Kyoko Fukada (Otousan - 2002).
4. Comments by hummer [Rating: 7/10]
It was fun to watch, but it was just a shallow enjoyment... There was almost next to no plot development, only case after case. The relationships didn't really progress, and at the end of the series, it felt like it didn't really go anywhere. The people in there seem intentionally dumb just to make Yukawa seem super smart. The girl seem to be useless as a cop and seem to be unable to solve a single case by herself while Yukawa scribbles nonsensical math equations that seem to have no meaning since his explanations don't really deal with any calculations.... The characters were cute, but this drama could have been better, especially with all of the famous guest stars and the concept.

I loved the fusion of the supernatural and science, logic and intuition in solving crimes. So intriguing!!!Glad to see Masaharu Fukuyama back on the small screen with an awesome performance. He is even hotter than the last time I watched him in Bijo Ju Yujuu where he played a cool, cheeky laid- back TV producer , his flippant character a sharp contrast to the serious genius Yukawa-sensei a.k.a. Galileo sensei. Kou Shibasaki gives another credible performance as the intuitive detective. Every episode was exciting, I couldn't wait for the next. And ep 4 with Shingo Katori of SMAP in that sexy shower scene made this fangirl faint. Is it too much to wish for a Part 2?

Those like me who are big fans of Higashino Keigo and Meitantei Conan will surely like this. Nice plots, funny, non-intrusive comic relief...too bad they tried to really screw everything up with the last episode (so bad it hurts, seriously!), but they recovered well with the very nice special. Apart from the aforementioned crappy episode 10, the only thing that really bothered me was the absurdity of the "Galileo-starts-writing-formulas-on-some-crazy-surfaces" scenes, present in each ep.; c'mon guys, I understand that a bloc-notes and a pen would have been less dramatic, but there's a fine line between dramatism and idiocy, and those scenes went too far...

8.5. I don't like the episodic nature of the drama, but i love mystery and detective story in general. The tricks and stuffs were pretty interesting, but it could easily be tedious after awhile, which means that its really up to the cast to make the drama interesting or boring. That being said, there is no danger of being bored when it's Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou together. Fukuyama is absolutely flawless and just where the hell do you find that hot of a scientist?!?!I probably would pay more attention in my physics class had he been my professor lol. As for Shibasaki Kou, they had great chemistry...even better than shibasaki and kimura takuya imo.
8. Comments by Inujun [Rating: 9/10]
This drama is pretty much episodic and almost the same thing happens everytime. Something weird happens-->utsumi finds yukawa--> yukawa solves it. Therefore it isn't good for a marathon, however I liked many of the cases where although the guilty one was clearly shown, the way they commited the crime was clever. I also liked the scientific explanations for all the cases. Some did indeed creep me out a bit and I nearly did believe in the supernatural side of it, but the explanations were clear enough. Pretty good background music, plus love the utsumi-yukawa duo, though disappointed nothing actually happened between them.
9. Comments by Sakebitosan [Rating: 9/10]
Another series with an excellent philosophical theme: The power of reason. Each episode is an individual case and therefore can be watched as a stand-alone drama, but the two principle characters, Yukawa-sensei and Utsumi-san, are so vivid and well-developed, and the series' overall style so overtly enthusiastic about ingenuity, that it suffers nothing for the lack of a single start-to-finish story arc. A must-see drama - kind of a dorama classic, actually - with definite replay value if you wait a year or so between viewings. (Formerly available on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.)
10. Comments by aiscess [Rating: 7/10]
I thought that this will be a dark drama but the atmosphere wasnft that dark at all. I've been just deceived by the black screen at the start of each episode. The first episode was interesting especially when they did that experiment as to how the suspect did the crime, skipped ep2 was more like an episode of Trick, ep3-8 was also good, ep9-10, I thought that the crime would even be harder to decode but it wasnft. I was just disappointed as to how they ended it. They could have thought of a better mystery or crime to end the series with as to how they started it.
11. Comments by SayaOtonashi [Rating: 7/10]
Ok, I liked the idea of using physics to solve murder cases, but somehow I felt cases and resolution were really weak. And did he really need to write equations _always_? Also each episode is just about the same (professor doesn't want to help young cop but ends up helping in his own quirky way), so you'll keep entertained but don't expect a heavy story with heavy cases. Good enough, it has comedy and mistery; just give it a try.
12. Comments by Shindou [Rating: 7/10]
A decent drama but was somewhat disappointed the script didn't go further to bring out the acting ability in kou or masaharu. Plots were reasonably good and entertaining but at times, yukawa sensei's sudden inspirations and scribblings don't really make sense in the context of the crime/problem - guess one could argue its a quirk in the character but sometimes it just didn't feel in place. Overall, a decent dorama.
13. Comments by dokaben [Rating: 8/10]
A solid, fun mystery. A mix of the X-Files and Numb3rs with humor and without the annoying unanswered questions. Very good acting overall with lots of great guest stars to keep things interesting. My only complaint was the weak ending. It was like they threw away the believable plots and suddenly turned it into a goofy episode of Trick. Still, very much worth watching.
14. Comments by sadacori [Rating: 8/10]
After reading some reviews, I wasn't too enthusiastic about watching this drama, but I'm glad I gave it a try. I found it to be one of the better mystery-oriented dramas out there. Fukuyama and Shibasaki made a great team, but I enjoyed Watanabe Ikkei's annoying character the most. Also, the famous guest stars in each episode made it a fun watch too.
15. Comments by ABINTRA [Rating: 8/10]
I enjoyed this drama overall, but the cases were a bit hit and miss, some being a lot more interesting than others. The movie was AMAZING, one of the most moving and thought-provoking JDorama I've had the pleasure of watching... I was bawling! So I'd recommend watching this series just for the sake of seeing and fully appreciating the movie. :3
16. Comments by UsopSama [Rating: 8/10]
The plot revolves around a police officer and a university professor as they solve unexplainable mysteries. The mystery-elements made it extremely fascinating. Not to mention, the story stays strong until the end. The only thing that I found questionable is the bullshit equations/theories. Overall, this series definitely will not bore you.
17. Comments by Mimori [Rating: 9/10]
I really like this drama, the cases are very well put together, I couldn't help but get caught up trying to find the solution.
I love Fukuyama Masaharu, his character was very intelligent and I really liked his rational way of thinking. Plus he is so attractive, very handsome and a great actor.
Anyway, this is really worth a watch.

A rookie detective who has the drive and passion to solve crimes and a genius physicist who is not only brillant in mind but seems to be a good sportsman. Interesting combination. IMO, one of the best mystery genre drama I have have ever watch. I really like it when Yukawa Manabu threw away the brooch. Jealousy?~ :P
20. Comments by Jeanxi [Rating: 8/10]
Interesting show that seems more like the American style of TV shows where each episode is a stand-alone story. Kept me entertained but there wasn't anything special about it, though there are some pretty hilarious moments. I think I only finished it for the shallow reason of wanting to see Fukuyama Masaharu.
21. Comments by Shachihoko [Rating: 9/10]
This is a very good series. A mixture of Physic Science and Mysteries. A detective and a College Physic Professor team up to work out on clues about things that is needed to be solved on crimes case that the forensic can't even solve the problem. I really recommend watching this drama.

I did not get to watch the whole series, because it was a toss up between which one I should download: Galileo or Hana Kimi, and Hana Kimi won.

However, what few episodes I managed to catch, I really liked. Plus, I'm a sucker for Masaharu Fukuyama..so I'm giving it a 9 out of 10.

Awesome stuff! Reminded me of "MathNet" for those who know the show... A bit cheesy at first when he started to show his 'talent' but then again, it's very interesting, especially if you know what he's talking about. Science lovers would agree. Shibasaki Kou was also great.
24. Comments by bmwracer [Rating: 8/10]
Enjoyable and entertaining drama... I really liked the interaction between Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou, but there wasn't very much growth in either character and their relationship was almost too sterile... Let's see how the upcoming movie (Fall 2008) turns out. :)
25. Comments by williu [Rating: 6/10]
Many seem to like this drama but I can't fathom why. It's a poor attempt at creating a new 'Trick', only with a very silly approach (though the writers/producers try to make it seem realistic) and unfortunately bad acting. There are some good parts, but they are too few.
26. Comments by sucigam [Rating: 8/10]
The first episode of this drama is excellent and had me hoping for an amazing drama but that episode ended up being the best of the 10 by far. Still I was pretty entertained throughout and it's been awhile since Kou's done something worth watching, 8 it is.
27. Comments by x_XJules [Rating: 7/10]
pretty entertaining. it's a little strange because different episodes have different directors but overall it wasn't a terrible dorama. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough character development but that is a common complaint for shows like these.

I learned a lot from watching this series. I'm no good in physics and this serves a great tutorial class to me. To top the list, Fukuyama is the every reason to watch this drama. He rocks... I like him a lot!! He can pull every role that he played.

Oh I love mystery-oriented series like this. Physics?! Something fresh I've never seen before. I think it's well done. Though there are still some (but not much) illogical things, but they try to make the sense out of it. I think it's worth watching.

Fukuyama masaharu is impressive & very charming in this drama. The guest stars are all very interesting to watch. However, im quite disappointed with the last case. Bomb is so cliche. The first case i feel is still the best.
