Synopsis
A year after the release of a blockbuster movie that made 1.7 billion yen at the box office, and adapted from a popular manga series that sold over 4 million copies, "Umizaru" is coming back as a drama series. "Umizaru Revolutions" takes place a year after the movie in which Daisuke Senzaki succeeds in becoming a rescue diver.
The shooting of "Umizaru" is done with the full cooperation of the Japan Coast Guard, including the provision of vessels, helicopters, uniforms, and other props.
Although he became a rescue diver a year before, Daisuke Senzaki was frustrated from having no real life rescue experience. One day, he is transferred to the 3rd Region of the Japan Coast Guard in Yokohama. Daisuke is thrilled that he's able to work in the same city where his girlfriend Kanna lives. He is posted to the patrol vessel "Nagare." The captain is Kotaro Katsuta, the commander of rescue divers is Iwao Shimokawa, and Daisuke's "buddy" (diving partner) is Masaki Ikezawa, an elite rescue diver. Masaki is a professional who is strict both on himself and his colleagues, but he expects nothing from a novice like Daisuke and hardly even talks to him. One day, an oil tanker "The Asian Trip" capsizes and patrol vessel "Nagare" embarks on a rescue mission.

1. For Love, Honor & Glory [Rating: 10/10]
Its not often that a drama series managed to achieve the type of production value in movies but Umizaru Evolution has managed to do it and even surpassed the original movie. The show (based on a popular comic series) is about Senzaki Daisuki (Ito Hideaki), a navy rescue diver and the various characters working at the ship, Nagare, he is posted to.

Many has pointed out that the show seems to appeal to guys more with its mainly guy-related topic like sacrifice, buddies etc. But the show is more than that, i feel, that the show is about being human and the choices that we made. From Daisuke's point of view, we go through momentous events in his life, from his budding love with Kanna (Ai Kato) to the death of his buddy to the decommissioning of Nagare. It is so enjoyable to have a character so fleshed out and allow one to follow him through his life.

I particularly enjoyed the romance between Senzaki and Kanna, as they overcome the awkward situation created from their parting in the movie ending, to her overcoming her fear of his job and how they come to understand each other.

One thing I pointed out earlier was the high production values, this is because in watching the show you might feel that each episodes is like a mini-movie with its high budget action scenes and strong themes in each episode. Credit should be given to the strong supporting cast like Tokito Saburo, Nakamura Toru whose own side stories was touching enough and managed to build on the overall feel of the show
This show along with Densha Otoko and Slow Dance has managed to provide for the summer audience everything they looked for in tv entertainment.

verdict: ichi-ban!

2. Fantastic [Rating: 9/10]
Although this dorama was released last year, I've only recently managed to find the vcd. I must say, if not for the quality of the vcd which i'd bought (it's original & yet it's not perfect), watching this dorama would have been a joy. The production team & cast put in a lot of work into this dorama, in terms of filming all the challenging underwater scenes.

Although focus was on how Senzaki evolved to be a top notch JCG diver, I was glad that the romance between Senazki & Kanna went well :)

I thought that it's good that the writers have included the personal lives of these divers so it gives them a well rounded personality & a better understanding of the sacrifices they have to make for the love of their job.

Overall, great dorama, well paced without much dull moment.

3. Hunks, hunks & more hunks... [Rating: 10/10]
A must-watch show if u into testosterone, muscles, sweaty bodies & Ito baring his torso & butts... Apart from the hunks who made most females drool for more, this mega production drama is full of action, tension & emotion... The plot is also more realistic, compared to those ridiculously exaggerating action-packed Hollywood movies... The chemistry between Senzaki & Kanna is also a plus point in the show... Looking forward to the sequel...

4. A solid dorama! [Rating: 9/10]
This dorama was very well paced with a solid storyline that was convincingly portrayed by the cast. The various stories interleaving the series were handled well, without overdoing the emotion or action aspect. kato ai's boss seemed to be less fleshed out as a character than and felt like an afterthought but overall, an enjoyable dorama to spend time watching.

I fell in love with the theme song "Ocean" by B'z before I even watched the drama and the latter certainly doesn't disappoint either. It offers a solid, balanced look at the lives, relationships, and of course trials and tribulations of Japanese coast guards. A wide range of issues are covered and handled realistically for the most part. I contemplated, laughed, and shed a few tears here and there too. A certain death kinda irked me, though. Was it really necessary? Plus there wasn't sufficient follow-up on the culprit(s) IMO, but maybe that's beyond the scope of this series.

I was still contemplating if I should watch this drama. Since I watched the movie already, I thought it would be a rather similar plot. When I finally finished the series, I'm glad I didn't miss this good drama. It brought out the strong bonding between the umizarus, their struggles with family life & their spouse. The sacrifices they make, and the earning of understanding from the people around them. I was quite put off by the not-here-not-there relationship Daisuke & Kanna had though. And this drama has got hell alot of butt scenes. Hahahaha!

Great Props/Scenes/Plots. Good actors and stories (though a bit slow at times). Very entertaining; one would be able to learn a little about the Japan Coast Guard after watching this drama.

Would definitely recommend the finale movie version "Limit of Love" though. Even greater tension / danger / acting by THE SAME CAST!!!

A solid dorama! Well-paced and well acted by the whole cast. The script for each episode was very neatly crafted with a tidy satisfying ending to round off the series. Plotlines were intense but not overpowering and writers took care not to overdo it, sometimes a difficult task given the topic. Well done!

This is a nice change of pace from boring love stories that never get anywhere. This drama has great scenary and definiately eye candy. I didn't know Japanese men could have such bodies! The acting was good but I think the events that occured were too overly dramatic. Enjoyable, watch it if you can.

Absolutely great drama, A MUST WATCH. Alot of action, great friendship, cute romance. Better than the first movie...the 2nd movie (Umizaru: Limit of Love/Test of Trust) is also a MUST WATCH. Ito Hideaki at his best! He's so heroic, you will fall in love.

I was waiting for the drama after watching the movie. I love it. Absolutely loved it. It had all the elements of a good drama. Love, tragedy, friendship...it made me laugh, it made me cry. Lived up to my expectations

LOVE LOVE LOVE! One of my favorite series! It's soooo sad and some parts are so UNEXPECTED that I just can't predict which way it will go. The love is a bit minor in this, but when it's there, it's a bit cheesy...

Liked it even more than the movie because there was more action and rescuing scenes. In the movie it really only was about their training.
