Synopsis
Misumi Mikoto (Ishihara Satomi) is only one out of approximately 170 registered forensic pathologists in Japan. She has 1,500 autopsies under her belt and trained as an associate professor at medical school. Mikoto arrived at the newly established Unnatural Death Investigation (UDI) Lab four months ago. People who died of unnatural causes are constantly brought to the UDI which has assembled specialists in determining such causes of death. The team members are fellow forensic pathologist Nakado Kei (Iura Arata), records officer Kube Rokuro (Kubota Matsutaka), lab technician Shoji Yuko (Ichikawa Mikako) and director Kamikura Yasuo (Matsushige Yutaka).

Forensic case solving show - not particularly original. Love the self-awareness (quoting Rinjo, the seven Ks) but wasn't that interested in the mysteries, lots of archetypes and tropes as excepted. I had to switch off at a scene where the two female team members (a doctor and a I assume university educated technician who open bodies for for a living) couldn't administer CPR and kept on wondering if rescue breaths were actually kisses while there was a guy in cardiac arrest. I know it's for laughs but jeez that was dumb. The overarching mystery about Arata's dead girlfriend was the most interesting thing for me, but was also ridiculous. Nice and catchy Yonezu K song.

First 10/10 dorama in ages. AMAZING. Engaged me from beginning to end. Few plot holes here and there, but minor...all major points came across in a most satisfying way! Read some of the other critiques...maybe I don't watch too many of these types of medical doramas, but I do still think this is one of the best overall doramas for me. Great to see that no one is an imbecile (e.g., the department head, the police, etc.).

Looks more like a sequel to Voice and Satomi Ishihara has shown more maturity in her acting skills.
This is a far-fetched drama which creates the possibility for aggrieved families to hire private forensic laboratory to investigate deaths of their loved ones.

"Unnatural" was pretty unoriginal. Which is not to say it was a bad drama, it wasn't. Just nothing particularly new or exciting.

Solid drama, with some nice twists and use of forensics to solve cases. Good camaraderie between the cast. Theme song is awesome.
