But, this level of the field does have a high turnout rate, meaning, everybody quits eventually, or moves up because they had the balls to stick with it.
well, i hope you're one of those who eventually move up. there's a lot fields that are similar. the guys on the bottom usually get the sh*t jobs, and you have to work hard to move your way up. BUT, i have found there are certain positions you DON'T want to move up to. i'd be happy with a good paying, challenging job that's manageable. i don't need to be the dang president. he takes too much cr*p.

The problem with the higher paying one I wanted was that I'd have to wait until May to qualify. But that's in less than 2 weeks anyway, so I see it as, why wait before saying a word?
like i said, could be budgeting, could be someone hasn't made a final decision as to whether to retire or not, etc. i know it sounds cr*ppy, but what if the alternative were this: they tell you, "yeah, we want to hire YOU in may." you pass up all the jobs offered to you, and come may, they tell you, "sorry, we were wrong, budget doesn't allow us to hire." according to my friends in HR, that has happened, and so, to protect themselves, they rather tell you NOTHING. no knowledge, no expectations.

Plus, doesn't is look good to call back and show you are interested?
yes it does. not too often, but did you mention to them that other offers have rolled in? i wouldn't give them that ultimatum until you're REALLY sure, but that's one option.

Anyway, that one pays $5,000 more per year than the one I am gonna be offered (waiting for the letter), plus fully paid medical, vision, and dental (meaning, no deductions....free Aetna), but MUCH less paid sick days, vacation days, and personal days......
Well, opportunities for advancement exist but obviously not quickly, it would take probably 2 years or more for that but you can move around on the same level positions. Each year you have a chance for 3% raise. There are benefits (insurance), but I don't think they have 401k for my level. They have tuition reimbursement but the other one did too.
i was surprised to know that you actually knew how much the raises were going to be. my advice was going to be not to worry too much about 5 g's. two of my friends started at pretty low paying jobs, and i got a pretty decent paying one. i had a LOT of work. they didn't have too much. but when raise-time came, i would get a teensy-weeny 3-4%, and my friends would get a raise AND a bonus. when i calculated it out, they got like a 12% raise!! presently, i'm not at the same job anymore, but right now, they both make close to what i used to make and (to me) they still do less.
so that's one thing hard to figure out. some companies start you low, then give you good bonuses or raises. others give the $ up front. also, for 5 g's more, you could be working a LOT more and a LOT harder....

The other higher-paying one was a different, better, and more highly-looked upon position, and it would be what I'd move up to if the position was open where I work now
shucks, that's a tough one. a prestigious position does help your resume in the future. and the company name counts too.

I dunno, I just have been feeling jerked around and screwed over for the past 7-8 months.
for me, i've pretty much had to deal with a lot of 'bs' on my hunt as well, so i know what you mean. i wish you good luck in your decision. may it turn out for the best!
Got to the office this morning to find that one of my buddies at work died last night.
Everyone in the office is pretty upset, "Lupe" was a great guy. We nicknamed his Lupe because he tied network cable in big loops.
It's going to be a long day,

OMG! How did it happen? o__o I hope that day wasn't too bad...
As for me, I got the $h!t scared out of me by a social worker from my job calling my house on my day off I thought "WTF could she be calling me for, I didn't do anything....great", because many times, people get easily fired from my job because of false allegations made by co-workers who want you canned from not liking you (and it always works) or clients being "mad at you" for the day that make up lies to report you and get you in trouble for not giving them their way. I called her back and got a call back the next day, to find out an investigation was pending on someone else So I have to put in a written statement today that I know nothing about it. Apparently the co-worker I hate most was accused of client abuse. But, I heard nothing because that night was particularly quiet and I seriously doubt it happened. I'm gonna ask people today what it was about because of course the social worker could give me no details.
I'm also waiting for my offer letter. I hope it comes today because I have to put in my 2 weeks!
At work, nothing to do except browsing jdorama and watching korean VF-vids
A wrong mobo on a rig (a BTX, had to be ATX), and lacking components so can't either replace with other parts nor build. I have nothing bad to say about my boss, he''s a nice person. I got scolded a little once when I was butting in the middle of a sales negotiation, my bad. I'm not a sales person, I'm a service staff.
When there is nothing to do, I just chill and browse the net.

what kind of company do you work at?
I work in social services, which involves direct client care in a residential/institutional setting. This is a state-regulated thing, so any allegations or complaints are taken VERY seriously. All are investigated. Some comes with prompt termination even before the investigation, depending on your track record or if you are new. If you aren't canned instantly, you will be suspended until the investigation is complete. If it is disproven, you stay. If it is proven without doubt, you are canned. If it can't be fully proven nor disproven, more than likely you are canned anyway.

Any new news, K?
Well, it wasn't about me, hehe. It was the co-worker I hate. She's suspended and took her vacation during the time to "conceal it" and probably to use them in case she gets canned.
