so the xbox has nothing to do with the incident at all I guess? could have easily been a PS2, or a gamecube or insert any machine name...don't know what the big deal is...

Almost two years ago, the world was shook with the horror which took place in the Central Florida town of Deltona where a gang of ex-convicts beated and stabbed to death several victims, just because one of them had taken the leader's of the gang Xbox video game and some clothing from her grandparents' vacant home where he had been squatting.
This happened in August 2004. Today, the trial of those charged with first degree murder is finally starting, in St. Augustine, as the small town of Deltona couldn't have dealt with the attention of the media and all the hype surrounding this case.
Even if the case has been given so much attention due to the role the Xbox gaming console had in this affair, the convicts are Troy Victorino, 29, Michael Salas, 20, and Jerone Hunter, 20, all with criminal records and years spent behind bars. According to the Associated Press, Victorino spent eight of the last 11 years in prison. The horrid attack ended with the violent death of Erin Belanger, 22, Michelle Nathan, 19, Francisco Ayo-Roman, 30, Anthony Vega, 34, Roberto Gonzales, 28, and Jonathan Gleason, 17. The defendants are facing six counts of first-degree murder, five counts of mutilating a dead human body, and other felonies.

you appear to be quite right...i guess the journalist used the xbox to emphasize the incredulity of the incident...that someone would kill for a videogame.

Back to real gaming:
I just played Battle Stadium DON (stands for Dragonball,Onepiece,Naruto) it's a fighters megamix for the PS2 by bandai.
the game is mediocre IMO, even though they combine some really interesting charas from these shows, the backgrounds n such are nicely done (scenes from the different anime) but the fights are just chaos and unbalanced. some characters have nice little combos, some have not
It's easy to misunderstand to think they mean the PS3 will be strong enough to last 10years. that I won't bash them for.
but the answer to the question why the PS3 is lot more expensive than Wii or Xbox360 is just plain stupid: "for $599 you'll get a fantastic machine! it's great value for your money! it will be around for 10years - woohoo.
I mean wtf? Sony thinks every gamer out there is a mindless fanboy? My PS1 is 10 years old and I sure as hell don't play that anymore. My PS2 is 5 years old now and it's been sitting there catching dust. The average lifespan of a gamesconsole is like 4-5 years max. So what's this 10 years crap about?
That still doesn't answer the question why the heck it's at least $200 more expensive than Xbox360. Still it doesn't answer why the heck the machine is so great that it will be around for 10years. Yes we of course do know the answer: it's because of that stupid BluRay format that Sony needs to force upon people, that's the only reason why it's going to cost $599. and it won't sell. BluRay: worthless to me. HD-DVD? No need for that either.
For the price of a PS3 can buy you a Wii + the Xbox360. I know I'll be getting a new machine this xmas, but it won't be a PS3. I'm sick of Sony and their worthless marketing statements.

This sucks. Especially since technology evolves so rapidly. 10 years ago, I had a 486 DX 33 or a pentium 120. I'm glad I got rid of them a long time ago. _________________

Sony has just become like Nintendo: when they were king they just lean back and waited and waited...and released their N64. Sony does the same: why bother? those fanboys will be loyal forever! (or so they think)

not this time I think, sure there's lots of fanboys, but among the PS2 owners, the majority are just casual gamers. who won't pay $599 for a machine with BR and whatever useless bells n whistles it comes with.
I've been wanting to buy the Xbox360 too, and same here: there aren't games out that I reall ywant that badly. but that will change with the coming months.

What's the big thing right now in Tokyo arcades? It's all about interactive card battling systems, where companies have managed to create a mix of arcade and collectible card games, which makes it that much easier for them to get to every last penny in your wallet. Although they do come in a few different genres, one of the bigger ones is based on the Gundam anime universe, and has you battling giant mechs (piloted or remote-controlled limbed vehicles, obviously), with smart cards -- that you place on a sensor table -- representing all of the weapons you can equip. Another game, based on China's three kingdoms era, has players moving their cards around, in accordance with the movements of the cards/troops on screen. No need to actually learn how to play these to enjoy the fun, just go in any of the bigger arcades in the city and take in the show, where all the action is projected on giant displays (as seen in the above image).
