Well I know how to evaluate talent when it comes to acting and I predicted that Shida Mirai would win best actress even though the drama had not started at that time. It is so far likely.

One actor has impressed me lately is Kitamura Ikki. Pretty much the entire staff is great except the comedian guy who is trying to act and accidently cries at the end of the first episode.

As in terms of this drama, it is a very debatable issue. First question, should a school blame the mother of her daughter being pregnant? Does the school have the right to blame the mother when school is to "educate" the kids? Or do parents have the responsibility in teaching their kids on what is right and what is wrong? Perhaps both ways. Or perhaps there is no person to blame.

And of course, abortion. But let's not go there.

So far it is a great drama as expected.

P.S.- Smart intelligent post you made there, thtl.

Much as I love Ms. Ueno (Nodame) I have to agree with you here - Shida Mirai has probably bagged 'Best Actress in a Drama' for 2006.

Excellent actor. Unfortunately for him he has a very distinctive look, making him perfect for those dark, evil roles. The only time he appeared 'human' was in "Tokyo Friends".

Are you referring to Miki's father (Namase Katsuhisa)? He's a seasoned actor although is forte is probably comedic roles. I thought he's doing a good job here, though.

The school Miki attended, Seirin, was an elite girl's school. In Japan, and probably a lot of other countries, a school like that will be more interested in maintaining its reputation than helping a student to deal with sensitive problems. Blaming the parents is the norm (interesting in other high school dramas such as "Gokusen" the parents blame the school whenever there's a problem).

In another forum there was a post quoting abortion figures in Japan. It seems that a lot of teenagers did not use contraceptives, and ended using abortion as an alternative. Maybe the producer of this drama wanted to instill some Pro-Life views into the public.

So that's who he is. He's mixed-blood, isn't he? Something about him doesn't look full-blooded Japanese.

I want to give my opinions on the main character. After watching this, I'm starting to rethink my original opinion at the beginning when I said, if it was my daughter I would accept the pregnancy...shikata ga nai.

Now, I'm thinking...here you have a very stubborn, head-strong, precocious young girl who is not afraid to speak her mind, even to her parents. Typical, average 14 year old. She knew the risks when she first got with the boy and she ended up pregnant. As a typical teenager, still a child, if you tell her not to do something, she will rebel and do the opposite. So, everyone telling her to abort the child only makes her more determined to keep it. That's my opinion only.

Great drama, nevertheless. I'll continue to watch it to the end. Victory! Peace!

His name is actually 'Kitamura Kazuki'. You may have got him mixed up with 'Sawamura Ikki', leading actor in "Ame to Yume no Ato ni".

I like Ueno Juri too and she should be the distant 2nd.

He has become one of my recent favorite actors. And he does have that distinctive look and he's quite unique as well. I'm always a fan of uniqueness like Kubozuka Yosuke.

I'm referring to the main character's uncle. I believe he is one of the JichoBucho comedian people. I just laughed when he accidently cried. And as for Namase Katsuhisa, he has great facial expressions. He's a good fit for exaggeration and fun roles. That's what makes good supporting actors which I would love to some day.

And yes, I meant Kitamura Kazuki. Typo there. But I also do like Sawamura Ikki. I see him more in movies.

And lastly, 5th episode was good. It's nice to have a good different drama for once.

yea, i have been following and watching this one, even before the soft subs come out for each episode. And of course the subs make it more understandable and enjoyable, thanks to the subbers, timers. Applaud

I am really enjoying this j-drama, and the acting. The storyline is deep enough, and dramatic enough to maintain interest and intrigue. The main girl is a great actress and it shows. Applaud

I've been watching this j-drama, and it is now up to ep7. I have to say that the main girl's acting is very impressive and it shows as why they picked her for the main role. The storyline is strong, and has kept my interest. The acting from the other cast members is fantastic too. I recommend this japanese drama to others. I will update "my dramas" and add this one soon. Bonk

I've watched ep. 1-6 with subtitles,
I'm very impressed from the acting of Shida Mirai, like in Jyoou no Kyoushitsu everything rotate around her.

Bow

I can't imagine young actors of my country (italy) performing as well as japanese childs.

Now I'll put Shida Mirai in by best actor list on jdorama.

I watch till episode 10 too. Got to say, this drama really touch my heart. Instead of the easy way out(abortion), she chose the path which brings her pain, sorrow, happiness. Her family, friends, public showing their own preception towards her pregnancy. A "new life" into this world....her struggle....she grown stronger every moment because of her child. I hope the last episode will be end well.
