MPD Psycho: Directed by Takashi Miike, so it isn't Nodame Cantabile. What it is however is dark, strange, disturbing, complex, twisted, confusing and sometimes hilarious. Unfortunately I'm watching the official R2 DVDs which has very bad picture quality and subs.
I never made to the second episode although I was intrigued. It must have been:

Maou: Had great hopes for this, but was greatly disappointed, it was awful, the lead Johnnys are the least convincing detective and lawyer I've ever seen. Why does the detective have to run everywhere, is he too young for a driver's licence? Something of Death Note vibe, even the opening titles could have come straight from an anime.
I am now at episode 10 and I thought it was ok, it is really just a Count of Monte Cristo story. I reckon I have been watching too many dramas because I actually think those two actors are ok compared to Yamapi or Takky and the likes. The running seemed normal to me as it is one of the Japanese drama laws: protagonist must run (and mustn't take his/her car, take the metro or get a cab), this has to happen at least in one episode. Agreed, Maou streched this to almost every episode.
Will rewatch a few episodes of Shomuni tonight [/quote]

Maybe I was a bit too harsh on the leads, Ikuta Toma was great in Akihabara@DEEP. I think my main problem with it is was the bad writing and direction, the detective was just an annoying walking cliche, and for me, the whole thing appeared to be an attempt to make a live action anime, which just didn't work.
As for the running, it was beyond the usual dorama norm, the detective seemed to have completely lost the ability to walk.

Ikuta Toma eventually made this annoying character more bearable with his acting imo. The writers didn't do justice to his character (unlike the original). But I must say, the lighting is excellent.
Personally and biasnesss aside, the acting is more than ok. Not as excellent as Ninomiya in terms of Johnny's talent, right about the same level as Nagase, definitely better than Takki and a whole lot better than YamaPi
With that in mind, If Gokusen 2/3 were completely pitch black, maybe then I'd watch it.
Of course, the volume would have to be off as well.
Even with that we can still predict how the story will go.
Yankumi starts class > pretty boy throws hissy fits > pretty boys pouts > pretty boy gets in trouble > Yankumi to the rescue > end with smiling pretty boys

I watched Episode 4, season 2 of Furuhata Ninzaburo last night.
I know it sounds weird, but that is only 1 of 3 episodes there are English subs for, and they are self-contained stories so you don't need to have seen anything earlier to know what's going on:)

Ashita no, Kita Yoshio
I didn't think much of it at first, but the plot turned out to be unpredictable and quite interesting
Fireboys
Maybe it's just the type of character, but Yamada Takayuki looked like he's trying too hard to me. A lot of exaggerated facial expressions. Daigo's naivety really got on my nerve, and made me wonder what he learnt during training, if anything at all

Watched the last ep of Gonzo really quickly without subs before work today. Best show of the season, hands down. I have to rewatch when the subs come out though, and more closely (this time got ready for work while it was playing, skipped some parts)
I also finished Kasouken no Onna 1 in two days when I was supposed to be doing homework. It was pretty good but a little less serious than I was expecting. _________________

I'm currently watching "Cat Street" while resting after a day of hurricane prep. I have no idea what the premise is or who is in it, I just clicked on it and dl'ed. So far there appears to be kids perform the Japanese version of "Annie"- only Annie's hair looks more like Pipi Longstocking. According to the music, this should be suspenseful- we'll see how it goes
I also picked up "Seigi no Mikata" and I actually enjoy that one- though I don't really understand why the dynamic is so warped between the two sisters other than the fact that the little sister is just a super-pushover.

I've watched this thru epi 9. It's one of those dramas that sneaks up on you. At first, I didn't like Yamada Yu's character AT ALL, I was watching mostly because of the hugely talented Mirai Shida. But as it went on it's all come together from about the half-way point on and I'm really liking this one a lot!
