Apparently Takeru's sister sexually abused him in some way when he was a child... Why? No explanation.

I remember in some obscure dialogue that it was because their parents keep scolding the sister for some reason and the sister wanted an ally by her side,, thats's why she did it (I dunno if that's even correct but that what I remember)
But I was more interested how she molested her brother he was like 6 and she was like 10,, the only thing that made me wonder about that drama,

hello ... i am kind-of-new here ... meaning that i don't usually post! but i just can't keep my mouth shut on this series.
anyways ... i guess, i think, i am the only one who found 'last friends' a really good series. all the characters were explained quite well on why they were that way ... and i think all of the actors did their roles very well. of course ... i loved ruka and takeru the most!! all the characters here has one factor connecting them all ... and that is LOVE!! they all one way or the other were affected by this emotion.

Nah. I'm sure there are others who liked this series as well. Someday, we will find them. Hahaha...
Anyway, I found the series watchable. But then again, I suspended all disbelief when watching certain scenes and especiallllllyyyy the later part of the opening scene with pregnant Michiru.
This show had promise but I think the writers and director just could not stick to their guns and keep to the original premise. But then again, I'm not sure if they themselves knew what the show was originally supposed to be. Was it supposed to be about the share-house? The DV? The GID issue? The childhood trauma? They wanted to do everything in the series but failed to capitalise on the share-house as a linking point apart from some superficial tag-ons. I feel for the lost opportunity.

Eh. That's the ONLY thing? The dialogue was from the last episode where Ruka and Takeru went on that road trip to find Michiru. That scene also had the interesting 'married couple' conversation. Other than that, (though I feel like Ruka as I go 'you don't have to say IT!'), I also wonder what went on in Michiru's head when she tried to explain her keeping the baby. I understand the action, but not the motivation.

You're on the mark... The writers sacrificed the story for ratings.

hello again ...
NOK : i do hope too that we would find some people around here that liked the series as much as i did! my take on the story ... i think it was neither the share house, the DV, nor the GID that the writers wanted to focus on per se. i think it was really about the three main characters (ruka, takeru, michiru) ... who they were individually and what path they took to finally be together... how they were able to realize that each had a role to fill-in the specific needs of each other. just my two-cents opinion really. *tee-hee* so basically the writers were able, again in my opinion, to fill the necessary requirements of the series for me.
Hello addie... I didn't want to quote your whole post again cos it just seemed redundant as you're one post above me.
Anyway, I totally get why you like it based on your reasoning, but I just didn't think the scriptwriters pulled it off that perfectly. Firstly, if it was really just a focus on the three main characters, why must Eri and Sousuke be in the opening credits? Hahaha.. Sorry, I'm nitpicky like that.
I really had wanted Eri to be more substantial in the story because it seemed like she was someone who could have really helped Ruka and Michiru. But instead, we saw her show just a glimpse of the potential she had when she talked to Ruka after her press conference and Sousuke about Michiru.
And while Ruka and Michiru had substantial development (though Michiru's character had some questionable motivations), Takeru's character development was sorely lacking. We see a lot of Takeru as a support for both Ruka and Michiru but I really felt for Takeru as his own issues were somewhat unresolved. Even if you include that 'scene' in the 'special' episode.
But regardless, Last Friends is watchable to me. I wouldn't be able to finish off the series as fast as I did if it wasn't. And I don't watch that many dramas currently so I guess I'm not too used to the drama conventions enough to compare.

I agree for the most part: the character development was thin for the most part, except for Ruka... And they spent waaay too much time on the DV and Sosuke character (ratings grab, IMO)...
The drama was barely watchable, since I winced every time the story veered over to Sosuke... That character made the drama really distasteful.
I can't see myself ever watching this drama again despite Juri-chan's solid performance as Ruka... It's too frustrating to watch and leaves me wondering what could have been.

NOK : point well taken ... i do see what you are getting at. my take on the reason for eri and sousuke being in the opening credits ... well it must be the actors playing the roles (i guess the actors earned that they be introduced) and not because they were really the main characters in the series??!!! again ... my opinion only.
i would have really wanted too to see more of takeru's past ... but i guess the writers may have thought otherwise since most of the viewers by this time were already confused of the real theme of the series (what with the DV, GID, etc.) introducing another topic like child molestation or whatever would have completely confounded the viewers!!
BTW ... thanks for sharing your thoughts with me on this ...

Hey, new here ^_^
Last Friends was my first real j-drama (not counting anime) and I LOVED it. Watched the whole thing non stop, was a bit knackered at work though.
My wife says (she is Japanese) that there was a special that covered the group of friends a year on but I cant find any place to get it, can anyone point me in the right direction?
