Thought I would like to say that today marks the 70th anniversary of
the Battle of Britain. Took place in the air over the English channel and was viewed from the English coast each day by people going about their daily jobs. Shown in the movie houses on the Gaumont British News films every night.

Britain had been at war with Germany since September 1939. France capitulated and then we were fighting with our backs to the Atlantic Ocean until December 1941 when Mr Roosevelt was able to also declare war against the Axis Powers and things levelled up a little. Pearl Harbour was the disaster then.

It was an all out effort as members of that generation will remember if they are still around. There was never a doubt in the minds of every one in England that we would never give up. So we didn't.

It wasn't the war to end all wars but it was the war that changed all things and all countries.

What was learned I wonder. What is it now...ten years in Afghanistan?? Now that's a war that will never end and it has been going on for centuries in that part of the world.

I got a feeling not.

War will never cease to exist. They're an exaggerated version of arguments and are almost always created through a difference of opinion between two or more parties. It's both sad and humbling to know that we'll never - so long as we're different - learn from our mistakes and/or from history.

Aaah that sounds sort of pessimistic where peace is concerned. People can have differing opinions without it leading to violence. I think peace will exist when our hearts change, not our minds.

I HOPE peace will exist when our hearts change. And of course people can have differing opinions without leading to violence. Otherwise we would have MORE wars. I was saying that differing opinions is usually the cause of wars.

Pessimist here.

Too many people out there choosing terror and anarchy as a way of life... Even if they got everything that wanted, they'd still be unhappy. These people thrive on misery and the misery of others.

I dunno. There's a difference between being a pessimist and a realist. A pessimist sees the negative side of things, with little hope of seeing a difference.

A realist looks at things at face value.

As we've seen in the past, history will always repeat itself. War will continue to exist. To some degree. It only takes one person to spread the poison. Until we realize that war doesn't solve anything, there will be war.

That's looking at it at face value.

Personally I do hope that one day there will be global peace. And I think that as years go by, we get closer to achieving this goal. It's just a matter of time and patience, and hopefully not too much destruction in the process.
