It's to give the press a chance to write their reviews before the movie opens. The lucky fans who can also attend are there to give the place a bit of atmosphere.

Searching my site for "completion announcement", it looks like they are held between two months to two weeks before the opening day.

It's part of the normal movie release circus, yes. If all is well then Juri has spent the past weeks doing photo shoots and interviews for magazines, with or without her handsome co-star. Next are newspaper interviews and variety show recordings for shows that are broadcast in the week before the release. If the movie is tied to a TV channel (normal for dramas turned movie) then the actors will haunt daytime TV the day before the release. Without a TV connection they may use other ways to get in the news, like fan events, free previews for a specific target group, etc.

Time-sorted news articles on Juri without duplicate removal. Use it on event days and the next day to collect the eye candy. (Which isn't as much as you'd like to because they'll only show photos that aren't tainted by Johnny.)
