Takayuki Yamada plays loan shark in "Ushijima-kun" drama series
Wed, August 11, 2010 (7:11pm EDT)
Actor Takayuki Yamada has not had a lead role in a television drama since 2006, but that will change this fall. He has been cast as the star of TBS's "Yamikin Ushijima-kun" ("Ushijima the Loan Shark"), based on Shohei Manabe's manga of the same name.

Yamada will take on a fierce look as he plays Ushijima, the head of a ruthless black market lending operation, which charges as much as 50% interest every ten days. Although he is the central character, the series focuses on the stories of the loan borrowers who have to deal with their debt problems.

Yamada's supporting cast includes Nana Katase as a new employee at Ushijima's company, a character new to the drama version. Kyosuke Yabe and Hiromi Sakimoto will also appear, as well as adult film stars Miyuki Yokoyama, Risa Kasumi, and Jessica Kizaki.

TBS plans to air the series late at night, but the day and time are still unknown. The first episode is scheduled for October.

It's a midnight drama, so apparently it's difficult to find the ratings. Sad

Takayuki Yamada to star in "Yubiwa wo Hametai"
Sun, January 16, 2011
Actor Takayuki Yamada has been chosen to star in the upcoming movie "Yubiwa wo Hametai," directed by Yuki Iwata. The film is based on a novel by Takami Ito, who won the prestigious Akutagawa Prize in 2006 for "Hachigatsu no Rojo ni Suteru."

In the movie, Yamada plays a three-timing scumbag who loses part of his memory in an accident. The three girlfriends, who all have different personalities, begin pressuring him about marriage. He realizes that he had bought an engagement ring before the accident, but he can't remember which one he was planning to marry.

His choices are an intellectual senior co-worker, a light-hearted girl working in the sex trade, and a woman who fits the "Yamato nadeshiko" ideal. The actresses playing these roles will be announced in the near future.

"Yubi wo Hametai" is planned for release this fall.

Yamada Takayuki levels up for RPG-themed drama
May 16, 2011

Yamada Takayuki will soon be on a quest as an RPG hero, playing the lead role in a Dragon Quest-inspired live-action series called gYuusha Yoshihiko to Maou no Shiro.h The show is an original project by multimedia creator and writer Fukuda Yuichi (g33-pun Tanteih), who is also taking on director duties.

The story is set in an ancient time, when the whole country was covered in thick forests. A mysterious plague breaks out, resulting in countless deaths. To paraphrase Pete Townsend, it's a boy Mr. Takayuki, it's a boy.

"The wife of actor Yamada Takayuki gave birth to a baby boy at a hospital in Tokyo in the beginning of March.

Both mother and the baby are in good condition, and Yamada left a comment through his agency, which read, gI am happy that he was born safely. I will continue devote myself to acting just like up until now.h

Yamada announced his marriage with a non-celebrity woman who is 7 years older than him back on New Yearfs day of last year, and announced his wifefs pregnancy in October."

Yamada Takayuki drama 'Yamikin Ushijima kun' to return for a 2nd second season plus a movie version

Yamada Takayuki's starring drama "Yamikin Ushijima-kun" will return with its second season starting in January.

In addition to the TV drama, there will also be a new film "Yamikin Ushijima-kun Part 2" that is scheduled to open in theaters in May of 2014.

"Yamikin Ushijima-kun" is originally Manabe Shohei's manga that was serialized irregularly on Weekly Big Comic Spirits (Shogakukan) since in 2004.

It was first adapted into a live-action drama series back in 2010, and its film adaptation was also released in 2012.

"Yamikin Ushijima-kun Season 2" will feature episodes from the manga like "Gay-kun", "Freeter-kun", "Rakuen-kun", and "Former Host-kun".

Along with Yamada, Sakimoto Hiromi and Yabe Kyosuke, who both appeared in the previous season as the employees of the Kaukau Finance, will continue to make appearances in the season 2.

It was also revealed that actor Ayano Go has been added as a new cast member for the second season. Ayano will play an informant named "Inui" who is also a childhood friend of Ushijima.

Other new cast members to appear in the drama include Irie Jingi and Takeda Kohei.

Takayuki Yamada to play Hideyoshi Toyotomi in "Nobunaga Concerto"

Yamada Takayuki will be playing the role of Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the upcoming FujiTV Autumn 2014 drama "Nobunaga Concerto" starring Oguri Shun and beginning its run from 13 October. This is the first time in 12 years since Yamada appeared in a Gekku drama and his last appearance was in 2002's "Lunch no Joou". Apparently, it was his buddy Oguri who made the offer to Yamada directly over the phone and the latter quickly accepted it after reading the original. However, the relationship setting between Nobunaga and Hideyoshi will be different from history where Hideyoshi's lord was Nobunaga as he will be a spy planted by Imagawa Yoshimoto at Nobunaga's side in this drama.

Takayuki Yamada to star in TV Tokyo 2017 Winter drama

Yamada Takayuki will be starring in the TV Tokyo Winter 2017 drama "Yamada Takayuki no Cannes Kokusai Eigasai" (Yamada Takayuki's Cannes International Film Festival" which will be shown from 6 January 2017 at 12.52am on Fridays. The drama produced by documentary director Matsue Tetsuaki describes Yamada's summer this year as he tries to produce a movie with director Yamashita Nobuhiro in a bid to win an award at the Cannes International Firm Festival.

Yamada recounted that he had learnt a lot through the process even though he wouldn't say that all the decisions made were perfect. However, by putting his dream into action, there were things which he realised as a result and they may be useful to his life in future. Yamashita who was brought into this adventure by Yamada, joked that he will run away from the latter next time if he suggests anything like this again and called upon everyone to be careful of Yamada who has the magic to make people do his bidding. Matsue also chipped in to "apologise" to all those who were affected and inconvenienced by Yamada's whims during this project especially the organisers at Cannes. However, despite so, they managed to get some phenomenal footage and hope that the drama can be shown till the last episode without any hitches.

Takayuki Yamada to appear in TV Tokyo drama special "Hagoku"

Yamada Takayuki will be appearing in the TV Tokyo drama SP "Hagoku" opposite the lead played by Beat Takeshi which is due to be shown within the year.

In this drama SP set in 1942, Takeshi will be playing a prison warden named Urata Susumu who works at Kosuge Prison in Tokyo and has no purpose in life other than stop his prisoners from escaping ever since his wife died during an earthquake. One day, he is informed that a former inmate at Kosuge named Sakuma Kiyotaro who used to respect him a lot and was sent to another prison in Akita to serve his life sentence had escaped. 3 months later, Sakuma comes to Urata's house and reveals that he was subjected to inhumane treatment at the Akita prison and wants to launch a lawsuit against them. However, Urata tells on Sakuma which results in the latter being caught and sent to the prison in Abashiri, Hokkaido. Subsequently, Urata gets transferred to Abashiri to become the chief warden and meets Sakuma there again.

Yamada will be taking on the role of Sakuma who was born into a poor family in Aomori and became an odd-job man on a crab fishing boat. While breaking into a warehouse to steal, he kills a man who is hot on his heels and gets a life sentence. However, he vows to stay alive and tries to break out of prison successfully at least 4 times. With regard to his character, Yamada commented that he never expected this character to be so worn-out both physically and mentally but he was happy to be able to challenge himself. In order to match the image of his character, Yamada shaved his head and went through a strict diet to lose weight. During the filming of this drama SP, he rejected all other jobs so as to concentrate on this project. Yamada added that just as what Urata's lines say, Sakuma is such a straightforward person that many people cannot comprehend him and just fear him. As such, he hopes to be able to show this side of Sakuma through his acting. As for working with Takeshi for the first time, he clearly enjoyed the experience and hoped that there would be a day when he can act in a production directed by his co-star.
