Akanishi Jin [赤西仁]
this guy's freakin good in everything, it's hard not to vote for him. ^^; he's so good-looking its not even funny (shud see him in tv ads & live shows. omg o_o), a great voice (usually lead voice or the cool back-up voice in kat-tun songs), he's excellent in dancing n acting, freakin hot body (& great posture to go along) & he's really charming on-camera (either tat or the camera just loves him. A LOT) XD need i say more? P/S : the above picture of him is seriously not doing him any justice at all. -_-"
Matsuda Shota [松田翔太]
he did an amazing job in hana yori dango as nishikado soujirou :) he's really cute (kinda looks half-chinese to me ^^;), and he totally brought out the best of his character in the drama. wonder if it was his acting skills or is it just his natural personality ?
Narimiya Hiroki [成宮寛貴]
this guy is definitely talented, along with looks & a unique personality to back him up. :) watched him in gokusen, kou kou kyoushi & stand up, and he seriously demands attention with his amazing acting skills. besides, i cant help noticing he has outstanding fashion sense & a really cute cheshire-cat smile :)
Oguri Shun [小栗旬]
i admit he's not drop-dead gorgeous (good-looking & cute nevertheless :D ), but i'm passing him a vote coz of his versatility as an actor - i havent watched all his dramas yet, but i'm looking forward to. he has done a range of roles. from a vulnerable punch-bag kid in gto, to a half-deaf brother in summer snow (amazingly convincing), to a gangster kid in gokusen, to a clueless semi-popular guy in stand up, now his latest is a real cool & attractive hanazawa rui in hana yori dango. and i must admit, he really brought all the characters to life.
Tsumabuki Satoshi [妻夫木聡]
brilliant acting in Orange Days. he has this charming look tat j-actors rarely have these days -- a really good-looking boy-next-door. haha. :) the only thing he needs now is the perfect leading role tat would shoot him into instant fame~!

Anego [アネゴ]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
hmm. this is a hard one. o_o for one, akanishi jin looked freakin hot in this one *cough*. but other than tat, the story's kinda bland, and i kept expecting the main couple to have a little more chemistry/ action/ moments. but so much for tat.
Antique [アンティーク〜西洋骨董洋菓子店]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought)
really loved this drama. :) totally hilarious with its unique sense of humor & funny effects. each and every story is touching and gives us a sense of gratittude, not taking things for granted.
Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought)
couldnt finish it. decent drama, but not my cup of tea. hate it when i know one of the main characters will die in the end. probably the pairing-up of kimura & tokiwa didnt appeal much to me either
Beauty 7 [ビューティ7]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
the make-overs were ok, but i guess i didnt like the cast too much. :) uehara takako did well in her role, but there were other characters tat didnt seem to fit their role, or is just plain annoying. ;) would've helped if the story was more diverse
Big wing [ビッグウイング]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
well, at least uchida yuki & kashiwabara looked good together in this drama. haha. but i guess the story is too bland and repetitive, without much character development. too predictable
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 7/10
the first-half of the series was practically pain-staking to watch. -_-" the train man was a total loser in the beginning. however, the story sort of picked up towards the end and there were some moments where i really felt for the characters. however, the last 10 minutes of the entire show was almost unbearably draggy as well ^^; but i'll give it props for coming up with the most original & romantic love-letter ^_^
Dragon Zakura [ドラゴン桜]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
this is quite interesting as it defers from the usual gto-freak-teacher concept. ya, the teacher is somewat freaky (in a different way), but at least he's not tossing students off a building to make a point ^^;. all in all, good drama. especially if u wan tips on getting into Tokyo Uni.
Engine [エンジン]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
kimura still delivers, as expected :) this character is kinda bland compared to his previous heroic-victorious characters. but it's a new side of him tat i've never seen of. anyway, the story itself is quite touching, but not fantastic. the kids were all exceptionally adorable~~~ (i admit i never liked kids, but these kids were seriously lovable). would've helped if the drama sticked to the title.
Friends [フレンズ]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
too short. o-o didnt feel much chemistry btw fukada kyoko & won bin.
Gakkou no sensei [ガッコの先生]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
another drama about out-of-the-box teacher. :) wonder y i keep buying the concept of these dramas? haha. but this one is yet another adorable drama. coz the elementary school kids were really cute & lively. yeah, i give most of the credits to the interesting bunch of children rather than the 2 main characters.
Ganbatte Ikimasshoi [がんばっていきまっしょい]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
fairly enjoyable. :) i'm not into canoeing (or watever it is -_-") but it was ok to see these girls putting their all into some less-than-watchable sport. haha. plus 3 johnny members sighting~! woohaa~!
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
this story is quite similar to gto. in my opinion though, it still doesnt measure up to the classic gto drama. but i must admit, matsumoto jun did well in this drama.
Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
ok. i'm a sucker for hot guys (so sue me ^^;), and this drama offers a whole gang of them~~~!! i fairly enjoyed gokusen 1, but i admit i enjoyed this one better. although story-wise, both gokusens were the same (seriously. like carbon copies.), but i enjoyed this one better coz of obvious eye-candy reasons. :) more akame~!
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
good remake of the ever-famous hana yori dango manga. :) would've done wonders if the series was a little longer. cast was superb (except they could've gotten a taller tsukasa o-o). story-wise was way too short, didnt do the manga justice. anyway, hopefully there would be HYD II to redeem its minor setbacks.
Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
as requested, here is the oh-so-long-awaited HYDII~~~ haha. the first half was practically draggy and repetitive and pointless ^^; however the second half kinda picked up paced to compensate for the lousy first half. overall, still a nice way to end the HYD chronicles ;) no more HYDIII pls.
Hero
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
this is another great drama. though it does not emphasize on romance (i don even think it remotely touches on tat aspect), but the characters were all eccentric yet lovable. :) each case is interesting and kimura was really good in this one, a little different from his usual serious-committed-focused characters.
Iguana no musume [イグアナの娘]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
touching fairytale-like drama about an iguana girl. :) one of the first dramas i actually watched on tv and actually went out to buy for my collection. it is quite outdated (dumb attempt at portraying a huge iguana), but i liked the story. ;)
Itazura na Kiss [イタズラなKiss]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
hilarious nonsense-type of drama. :) seriously like kashiwabara takashi's looks.
Itoshi Kimie [愛し君へ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought)
one of the best dramas i've seen. i'm not used to (let alone like) sob-stories. but this is top-quality drama as it's not cry-cry-cry all the way. the story has depth and many interesting side-characters to make it more diverse. fujiki naohito did wonders in this drama :)
Kabachitare! [カバチタレ!]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
bought it coz of okada yoshinori. but was pleasantly surprised by this unidentified-field-of-law they were focusing on. they werent exactly lawyers, but they do have the right to issue documents like lawyers. :) it was interesting, coz they were able to solve disputes & crimes with a mere piece of printed paper. :P would've loved it more if the cast showed more of themselves.
Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族]
Rating: 3/10 (Bought)
couldnt finish the 2nd disc even after 3 fervent attempts. ^^; however i took its rating up a couple of notches coz my mom actually cried watching this drama. oh well.
Kawaii dake ja dame kashira? [可愛いだけじゃダメかしら?]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
this is another drama with silly characters. :) but i guess it's ok coz the story is really light-hearted & easy to watch. funny to see the 2 girls facing-off or bickering, yet showing true friendship at times of need.
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット]
Rating: 4/10 (Bought)
u.t.t.e.r.c.r.a.p. mayb it's just me personally. but the thought of a human pet heeding to everything his 'owner' says is freakishly disturbing. -_-"
Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ]
Rating: 4/10 (Bought)
i have no clue as to wat this drama is trying to imply. o_o ok, maybe i'm a little short in the subtle-joke-department, but i was really baffled by this drama from ep.1 to the last ep. couldnt get was the gang was striving for actually.
Koishite Shinitai [恋して死にたい]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
good drama. :) i just seem to like dramas will silly characters who have a clear view in life & hard-core determination. fukada kyoko was really cute in this drama (never liked her much before), dohmoto tsuyoshi also did his part well.
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003]
Rating: 4/10 (Bought)
appalling storyline. i did however, finish this drama coz i had to translate each scene to my mom. at the end, it wasnt tat bad. but i'm still giving it a low rating coz i hate stories with inconsiderate main characters & pure evil side-characters :P (but i do give narimiya hiroki props for his fantastic performance)
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
this drama told me the existence of j-dramas :) watched this a few years back with my sis. didnt find it such a big deal then. but had to buy this coz my mom totally dig kimura takuya in this drama. it is quite an interesting story, and both main characters actually pioneered the new generation of jap actors/actress
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
one of kimura's best dramas, i guess. the plot is nice. matsu takako complements kimura the best, in my opinion. :) they do look good together. the only thing under par for this drama is probably the theme song o_o i actually found the song totally annoying
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
tried watching this a few times due to the rave reviews, but everytime i couldnt seem to finish this drama o_o it's surprising, coz the story was ok. but for some reasons, i was easily distracted from this drama and went off to catch up with another one instead. guess i could say it's not as engaging as i expect it to be.
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
overrated, i guess. too dramatic. bought it coz it was really talked-about at tat time. tried to watch it several times, but couldnt exactly watch the whole thing in one piece. i guess i'm still the conservative type who don find teacher-student relationships the least bit appealing
Marusa!! [マルサ!!]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought)
great drama about tax evasion. :) shows how detailed japanese authorities are when it comes to crime. the cast was absolutely fantastic. couldnt have thought of a more balanced team to fight tax evasion in tokyo
Mukodono 2003 [ムコ殿2003]

not yet watch
Namida o fuite [涙をふいて]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
a drama of the likes of 'Under One Roof'. good family drama to watch, but not re-watchable, i guess. it is really touching, and it almost brought me to tears (i admit i'm not easily touched by dramas). so i'll give it credits for tat.
Never Land
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
quite interesting if u understand the plot. portrays the sadistic side of japanese lifestyle as teenagers. miyake ken and the rest of the johnnys did a fairly well performance.
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
interesting story about the friendship btw 3 mismatched personalities. :) it all began with the idea of making-over nobuta, an insecure girl who had low self-esteem & was socially-challenged. wat started as a simple challenge slowly developed the threesome into the best of friends. this drama had its 'aww~~so sweet' moments, however the plot was a little slow & not-in-depth. :) would've done better if it was a few episodes longer
Onmyouji [陰陽師]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought)
way lousy compared to the movies-version :P the Seimei played by inagaki was too cocky and anti-social. regretted buying this coz it left a stain on my otherwise-perfect impression on the great onmyouji abeno seimei
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought)
seriously good :) this is probably one of the best college jdramas around. college, friendship, love, future -- this is wat it's all about. tsumabuki satoshi was the star of the show coz his character was irresistibly charming~~!! ^_^ would've scored a 10 if the final episode was more dramatic
Osorubeshi! Otonashi Karensan [おそるべしっ!!! 音無可憐さん]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
this drama shows a really silly girl going all out to impress the boy-of-choice. :) but i don really mind stupid characters, coz they crack me up & i hate dramas with characteres tat make me boil in anger. this drama is quite silly but it does have its moments
Pride [プライド]
Rating: 8/10 (Bought)
watched this a while ago due to my lack-of-things-to-do. however, kimura surprises me with his brilliant acting skills. and just when i tot i've seen all his gimmicks ^_^ anyway, superb storyline, cast well chosen, nice soundtrack, interesting trademark gestures to imitate. all in all, a kimura-worthy drama.
Pu-Pu-Pu jump
Rating: 6/10 (Bought)
:P the plot seems too simple. and the Comicen crew werent too mature in acting yet. a drama about 3 slackers who refused to settle down in life, thus doing all sorts of odd jobs just to make ends meet. but they were really funny & stupid at times. :)
Sapuri [サプリ]
(Bought)
Shin oretachi no tabi (ver.1999)
Rating: 10/10 (Bought)
hilarious comedy. probably the best work of Coming Century. reflects on the irony of today's society with a twist of humor. the 3 comicen members really showed off their compatibility & real-life friendship in this drama. really looked as though they've known each other for ages. each ep is really interesting & is really hilarious.
Slow Dance [スローダンス]
(Bought)
Stand UP!!
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
this is a hilarious drama about puberty, friendship & about teenage life in a small insignificant town. the story itself is not much compelling or memorable, however the 4 main characters are well put together, total eye-candies *wink*
Summer snow
Rating: 7/10 (Bought)
watched this dramas after taking an interest in oguri shun *grins*. and of course, oguri shun did magic in his role as the half-deaf brother. really convincing and lovable. the story itself is ok, decent drama, but sob-stories were never my cup of tea.
Taiyo no Kisetsu [太陽の季節]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought)
interesting plot. first-time i ever saw takizawa playing a dark role. :) but he's still good anyway. okada yoshinori should be given more credit for his supporting performance in this drama

youhei_mito's drama reviews (36)
Beauty 7 [ビューティ7]
so-so [Rating: 6/10]
this drama actually had a really nice plot & soundtrack to start with, but somehow it sort of slacked off right from the beginning. :P i think that this drama would have deserved a much better rating if there was a better line of cast (besides uehara & kanda, the rest were downright pathetic).
Big wing [ビッグウイング]
at least the 2 leads looked good together ^_^; [Rating: 6/10]
this is a mediocre-class drama. o-o not so much of a plot (a very weak one, for tat matter). just ur basic 1-story-1-ep plotline. even the mini-stories are not tat compelling either. but i must say the stand-out feature of this drama is the 2 main leads -- kashiwabara & uchida. ^.^; coz they're both incredibly good-looking. wished they were couples in real life. most of the cast (i wont name the particular odd-one-out here) were above decent-looking too. :) so i guess this drama is more of an eye-candy than a strong-plot.
Densha Otoko [電車男]
the most romantic love letter *grin* [Rating: 7/10]
the first-half of this drama is practically unbearably slow -_-" but i must say the story kinda picks up towards the end. :) densha otoko is a total loser in the beginning, but u'll slowly come to see his good traits (except the fact tat he cries in every single ep o_o felt like strangling him everytime he bawls in front of the girl). i initially tot the whole internet-whining-post concept was redundant & uncalled for, but i guess it does contribute to the big picture. ^^; though i was more interested in some of the side characters' stories than the densha otoko himself. wouldnt say this drama is tat fantastic, but the overall theme in the end is quite endearing.
Engine [エンジン]
misleading title o_o nevertheless still good [Rating: 7/10]
quite good drama. kimura was as usual on par with his superb acting skills. (who would've expected less?) however, the story was kinda bland. the title itself suggested a fast-pace drama. well, so much for tat. o_o but i do admit it does serve its entertainment purpose to an extent. the kids in the drama were all so adorable ^_^. never liked kids, but the kids were seriously lovable. would've been better if it showed more racing (come on, stick to the title) and a little more romance.
Gakkou no sensei [ガッコの先生]
the school kids were the highlight [Rating: 8/10]
this is a fairly amusing drama. in my opinion, most of the credits go to the fascinating bunch of kids. :) they were really adorable & why anyone would actually feel annoyed by them is way beyond my comprehension ^^; dohmoto & takeuchi did a decent job in this drama, but i think they should have indicated their growing fondness towards each other. not a struck-in-the-head realisation towards the end. :p
Gokusen [ごくせん]
overrated [Rating: 7/10]
this drama is fairly amusing, to say the least. o-o female-version of gto, except tat she has the background to back her up. however, that's where the strong points stop. the drama is entertaining in a sense, however it does not have a strong plot to pull through the whole series. overall, an ok so-so drama, especially if u're a fan of school-based dramas
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
too many versions, too many comparisons [Rating: 8/10]
i guess having watched so many versions of the exact same story kinda made new versions seem stale. i have read the whole manga, watched the anime series & the oh-so-overrated taiwan version (MG), and after giving this one a shot, i must say MG is ahead in terms of story & plot (but definitely not in terms of F4 though, coz the jap F4 were so much more classy & convincing ^_^) i think the jap version is a little rushed & compact, totally forgetting tat dramas are all about the little things & details tat make the viewers go 'Oh~~ tat's sweet'. instead they tried to cram as many important scenes from the manga into 9 measly episodes. not good. however, i do commend the jap version for their neat sense of style & class. the school seems classier, the F4 seems more real & more convincing as the school heart-throbs, they wore designer clothes, drove hot sports cars around. :P and they got the casting right :) all in all, it's quite a no-loss choice to watch this drama :) if u've never heard of HYD, watch for the original & creative storyline. if u've followed every version of HYD, watch for the sheer pleasure of comparing all the versions. haha.
Iguana no musume [イグアナの娘]
heart-warming [Rating: 7/10]
aside from the poor graphics (tragic attempt to portray an oversized iguana, appalling at times :P), this drama is actually quite good. the storyline is quite heart-warming with the mother-daughter issue, and the inferior complex the main character had to overcome, the subtle bond between rika & noboru, nice soundtrack... not award-worthy but not pathetic either
Itazura na Kiss [イタズラなKiss]
not for the serious-hearted [Rating: 7/10]
the title itself suggests a silly, nonsense-ful drama :) and it does deliver. haha. the story is really typical girl-crushes-on-boy, but this one adds a little more teeny-bopper flavour to it. not for ppl who prefer sad-tragic love stories, ;) may be too much to bear. but for those who love entertaining, just-for-laughs drama, this may be the right one to watch
Itoshi Kimie [愛し君へ]
one of the best dramas [Rating: 9/10]
with fujiki naohito & kanno miho leading, i knew it was going to be heart-warming n tear-jerking :) nevertheless, both leads gave excellent performances, especially fujiki who portrayed his playful-outside-vulnerable-inside character to perfection. he is seriously getting hotter with his age *drool* even the supporting cast did a great job in the drama. shiki's family & the kids in the hospital made the drama more diverged & interesting. heart-warming, touching, romantic, amusing, hilarious at times... definitely one of the better-class j-dramas around
Kawaii dake ja dame kashira? [可愛いだけじゃダメかしら?]
light-hearted & entertaining [Rating: 7/10]
a drama which portrays the best-friends-relationship between setsuko & yuko. very easy to understand, light-hearted & just plain amusing at times.
Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ]
confusing... [Rating: 6/10]
after watching this drama, i have a feeling i missed out on the whole subtle irony part of the story. o-o tat definitely affected my rating on the drama, coz basically, if u cant get the humor this drama is trying to portray, u wont get the whole story :P i was completely baffled by it. nevertheless, still convinced tat ppl who can catch the punch-line of this drama would be fairly amused :)
Koishite Shinitai [恋して死にたい]
surprisingly, this pair-up worked ^_^ [Rating: 8/10]
i never thought dohmoto-fukada pairing up would actually work on-screen. but somehow it did. :) guess the mood of the show + its great soundtrack helped out too. this is a light-hearted love story about a girl who tags along her boy-of-dream just to get him to notice her. the guy seems nonchalant but of course falls for her eventually. the storyline may be predictable but still worth watching
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003]
SICK DRAMA o_O [Rating: 1/10]
seriously a drama so screwed, not even the fabulous fujiki naohito can save this one ;P bought this drama due to the rave reviews, now i spend time wondering where or who to stash this drama to rather than watching it. nevertheless, this drama has achieved many first-timers in my vast collection of j-dramas though: - 1. first time every single character in the drama can be downright annoying 2. first time fujiki naohito can be less-than-charming 3. first time a doctor can be so disgustingly twisted into convincing her patient to be pessimistic 4. first time a teacher would lie to his student about her so-called death & be so nonchalant about it 5. first time a drama theme song can actually send eerie waves down my back (sounds like soundtrack for a freak horror movie) in 3 episodes flat, these are the impressions i got. wonder how long the list could be if i finished it? o-o
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
breakthrough in new generation jdramas [Rating: 8/10]
watched this drama quite some time ago, but it really is one of the best dramas around (too bad it's outdated for this age). it has a nice storyline, great cast (ahem, kimura made his name thru this one), great soundtrack. all in all, it's a great story about an aspiring pianist tolerating a free-loader woman who's a few years older than him. the relationship is tolerable despite their age differences coz they really do look good together :)
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
kimura-matsu = best on-screen couple [Rating: 8/10]
this is another drama tat came out during the peak season of jdramas (in other words, the kimura era ^_^). for some reasons, kimura & matsu takako just seem so right for each other on-screen. too bad they're not real couples off-screen. haha. in my opinion, this drama is probably one of the more memorable kimura dramas. it shows a very light-hearted love story, and u cant help thinking this couple should be together. cant remember much of the scenes, but i do know this drama deserves its top rating.
Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
wonder y the big fuss ? o_o [Rating: 7/10]
i searched high and low for this drama due to rave reviews & ratings. however, now tat i have it, i couldnt bring myself to actually finish the whole set in one piece. it is of course a decent drama, with nice soundtrack & a great line of cast. but the story is not as engaging as i've expected it to be. maybe it's just bcoz i'm used to more creative & fast-paced recent dramas. or maybe i simply had too high a hope on this.
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
overrated... o-o [Rating: 3/10]
technically speaking, i'm not one to give comments on this drama -- due to the fact that i merely finished the 2nd episode. o-o but i guess tat does contribute to the fact tat this drama is a sleeping pill to such an extent, even a j-drama lover such as myself would sleep on a drama! *LOL* i don particularly have anything against student-teacher relationships watsoever, but i do expect a breakthrough storyline regarding such a controversial topic in society. and this drama definitely did not do so. the drama did not deal with this debate in the face, wat it did was only conveniently & tactfully evaded the issue based on the simple 'love-conquers-all' crap theory. which is hardly convincing to me, this drama is just riding on the student-teacher issue to help with its lame 'love-surpasses-obstacles' theme, even if it means going around the obstacles instead of facing them.
Marusa!! [マルサ!!]
great cast, great drama [Rating: 10/10]
^_^ the cast put together was superb. couldnt have imagined a more balanced team to fight tax evasion in tokyo. some members of the team contributed brains while others who couldnt were more than willing to serve their physical attributes in undercover investigations *wink* the plot may be predictable, but the cast made this movie non-cheesy and really worth watching. hilarious and eye-opening at times.
Minamikun no koibito [南くんの恋人]
wat's wrong with the ending? o_o [Rating: 6/10]
well, this is an ok-ok drama, to say the least. not one of the better ones around, i must say, but nevertheless still watchable. there were quite some interesting scenes tat make this drama worth watching. :) i must say it's amusing to see a boyfren trying to keep his 16cm tall gf under covers and at the same time tending to her every need. ^_^ imo, i think the ending is quite pleasant. yeah, it's not exactly predictable and the wat-u-wish-it-would-be kind of ending, but not horrible.
Namida o fuite [涙をふいて]
touching family drama [Rating: 7/10]
this drama is practically another version of 'under one roof'. eguchi cant seem to resist family dramas with an obnoxious man-of-the-house. haha. :) i admit i hardly cry over dramas, but this drama practically brought me to tears. so must give it credits for tat.
Never Land
twisted but not unbearable [Rating: 7/10]
with johnny's jrs filling out the cast, i was expecting a teeny-bopper kind of drama o_o but was pleasantly surprised tat they werent just teenage-heartthrobs who intend to rack teenage attention for as long as they can. the drama is sort of dark & twisted, but it portrays the more 'unseen' side of japan's teenagers (not the usual mini-skirts, bed of roses lifestyle), which is actually quite eye-opening. may be hard to grasp at times but may be quite entertaining if u did get the story
Ningen shikkaku [人間・失格]
couldnt sit through the whole thing ;P [Rating: 2/10]
tried a couple of times to force the drama in (since it's been lying around the house collecting dust), but each time i only got to the 2nd disc tops (and not to mention endless skipping & forwarding :P) makes u wonder if there really IS a sadistic school such as this. the kids were totally screwed & tragically lost, the teachers were screwed. heck, u'd think the whole town is that screwed up. i do admit i watch dramas for the heart-warming-lightening moments & to be amused by the mutual relationships between the characters. and if u so happen to be like me, don bother with this drama.
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース]
nobuta power~! unique & touching ^_^ [Rating: 8/10]
an interesting story about 3 mismatched personalities who came to be best of friends. :) shuji, the popular guy who spent his whole life reaching the top of the social ladder; nobuta, the introvert girl who's socially-challenged; akira, the care-free heir who tags along without invitation. the story itself is quite compelling, the whole idea of 'adopting' an unwanted classmate, doing all sorts of things to make her feel accepted. the growing friendship btw the threesome was also heart-warming. however, the story could have showed more depth (maybe it was too short). and the ending was not solid enough either :) all in all, still worth a watch
Nurse no oshigoto Season 4
silly but somewhat entertaining [Rating: 6/10]
this drama falls into the usual silly + non-logical + ridiculous - yet somehow endearing to the heart type of series that only japanese cast can pull off without demanding a slap from matured viewers ;) it revolves around Izumi, a nurse who somehow gets around in her job as well as her personal life, despite her lack of maturity and sense of responsibility. worth watching if u're a big fan of the cast (namely fujiki naohito). would catch special appearances of w-inds (famous j-boy-group) in the movie version.
Onmyouji [陰陽師]
ok, but rather disappointing [Rating: 5/10]
i bought this drama bcoz i loved the movie-version so much :) but the drama proved to be too low-budget compared to the onmyouji movie. :P inagaki portrayed a cool, inert Seimei but the movie-Seimei is so much more convincing and loveable! ;) i'd recommend u to watch the drama for the interesting plot, then go for the movies to watch the best of Onmyouji stories :D
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
seriously good drama [Rating: 9/10]
i admit i'm picky when it comes to jdramas, coz i rarely find any of them really compelling. but orange days is seriously one of the cream of the crop. :) the storyline is really nice, with nice pace & nice moments. if u wanna watch a drama about college life, friends & love -- then this is wat it's all about. i have to say the star of the show was definitely Yuuki Kai (brilliant acting by the lead actor) -- this guy basically has the golden personality tat could charm any heart of steel (including Sae & her unreasonable mood swings). not to mention he's seriously cute. :) gotta mention the fact tat the rest of the gang was really amusing as well. if there was one thing less-perfect in this drama, i would say it was the final episode. wasnt exactly in the league of the previous episodes, just so-so. would've been an amazing drama if there was more climax.
Osorubeshi! Otonashi Karensan [おそるべしっ!!! 音無可憐さん]
weird, but heart-lightening [Rating: 8/10]
this drama is about a girl who skips & hops about wearing not-exactly-cute costumes to attract her dream guy :) yeah, enomoto kanako may look kind of silly in this role as a desperate girl who acts cute for the guy. but in some sense, the drama amuses me a lot. only recommended for ppl who dont mind a huge dose of enthusiasm in this world of pessimism. ;) this drama will only either make it or break it in terms of impression.
Pride [プライド]
surprisingly good :) [Rating: 9/10]
first off, i just want to say tat i'm not a kimura fan. (just to show tat i din watch this drama for the sake of drooling over him ^_^). anyway, with tat said, i still have to admit this is one heck of a good drama. superb storyline, cast was well chosen, soundtrack was on par. they even had several trademark gestures tat are really amusing. i'm also going out of my way just to say -- kimura's acting skill is seriously a step ahead of the rest (yeah, i'm serious). no wonder he's like the breakthrough in jdrama.
Princess Princess D [プリンセス・プリンセスD]
unbearable. n i'm not kidding. [Rating: 1/10]
man, talk about sordid. imagine an all-boys school worshipping a group of guys who dresses like girls (literally). geez. u'd think this drama is some kind of effort to promote social acceptance on cross-dressing and other weird fettish for tat matter. ^^; the storyline is just unbearable (cant even detect any storyline watsoever, just the dumb cross-dressing concept), the acting is unbearable as well. there's just not so much of a saving grace except for some of the eye-candies in the show (who by the way degraded their worth by actually portraying such weird characters). there isnt a single female in sight, so u shud of course expect blurred line btw manly frenships n gay-ness. totally retarded drama.
Pu-Pu-Pu jump
'pu-pu-pu' = 'slackers' [Rating: 7/10]
i know it would be somewat essential to actually translate the word 'pu-pu-pu' into simple english before going into details. o-o coz i was baffled by the title the first time i heard it. anyway, this drama is about 3 friends who decided they didnt want to settle down in life, and so they got along and did odd jobs all the time to make ends meet :) it's not a great drama, but it was entertaining to see the ridiculous odd jobs they took in each episode.
Shin oretachi no tabi (ver.1999)
hilarious, very entertaining [Rating: 10/10]
^_^ this is one of the best works of Comicen. ;) okada junichi did a fantastic job nailing the Guzuroku role in this drama. probably his best performance of all time. the whole plot is filled with hilarious dialogues and scenes. even the sound effects and ending theme is so nicely choregraphed. :) Miyake, Okada and Morita really showed real chemistry as best friends in this delightful drama. each episode is a great story which reflects society's irony in a light and funny way. highly recommended
Stand UP!!
not fantastic, but still has its moments :) [Rating: 7/10]
this story is the japanese version of 'american pie'. it's about 4 boys with completely different personalities, all trying to give up the 'doutei boys 4' title by the end of summer ^^;. there's sho, the timid gentle boy-next-door; ken-ken, the level-headed one with an obsession for railway transits; ko, the athletic semi-popular guy who cant seem to keep his cool in front of girls; the perverted utaya who cant stay decent for the life of him. :) this story has its flaws, but the main characters are wat makes this story amusing. it's really hilarious at times, ;) and it does help tat all 4 main characters are equally lovable & adorable.
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ]
overrated [Rating: 5/10]
aside from the strong cast and nice soundtrack, the drama is actually a waste of effort. the story is too bland, girl-likes-boy,boy-likes-girl,both-too-shy, half-brother-sister-twist... typical o-o the atmosphere created was quite ok, the narration done by hideaki was quite soothing, but otherwise the story was really typical & predictable. the last part of the drama is actually dragging & pain-staking to watch. ;P imagine a girl who gets sick on purpose to pull sympathy from crush-slash-half-brother? fascinating...
Summer snow
good storyline, good cast [Rating: 7/10]
this drama came out during the peak generation of j-dramas (alongside kimura's list of classic dramas), so obviously they had to follow a certain standard in order to catch up. well, they lived up to the expectations, i grant tat. but i guess its storyline is a little outdated for this new generation. o_o it is definitely touching, and both leads did excellent. heck, even the side-characters did well (e.g: jun & chika). but i guess my rating isnt so high coz i was actually more interested in natsuo's siblings stories rather than himself. not good.
Taiyo no Kisetsu [太陽の季節]
could have done better [Rating: 6/10]
overall, this drama has a unique, twisted kind of plot, which may have actually been good if the cast put in a little extra something into the story. too bad, the cast did so-so only. feeling wasnt there, mood wasnt there. heck, takizawa actually lost his touch in this drama! nevertheless, this drama may not be a complete waste of time due to its storyline. but definitely not one of takizawa's better performances :P
