Fukada Kyoko [深田恭子]
Quite simply, she was good in everything I've seen her in. She can be fresh and innocent, grave, downright wacky (check out the movie Shimotsuma Monogatari)! And her performance in Kitano's Dolls showed that she is definitely more than "just-another-idoru".
Kaneshiro Takeshi [金城武]
Like most people abroad, I discovered Takeshi Kaneshiro through Wong Kar Wai's movies. To me, those will always be his best performances. In drama, he does tend to overact a little... I guess it helps to have WKW behind the camera. Still, when he puts his mind to it, he can really be excellent.
Koyuki [小雪]
I first saw in Beautiful Life, in the very ungrateful role (so frequent in J-dorama) of the hero's-ex-girlfriend-who-tries-to-get-him-back-but-fails. Yet, every scene she was in was emotionally overwhelming, I truly felt for her. And needless to say she was perfect in Kimi wa Petto.
Kubozuka Yosuke [窪塚洋介]
Great in the movie Laundry, great in GTO, great in Strawberry On The Shortcake... and all three roles are very different. What does that tell you? T-A-L-E-N-T
Nakama Yukie [仲間由紀恵]
I was delighted by her performance in Ringu 0 -- how she was able to become a living image of the pain Sadako felt. She was so young, and already so talented! And Gokusen proved she can also show real comic genius. It's not easy to be so ambivalent. Anything she does, she does well. Simple.
Sorimachi Takashi [反町隆史]
GTO was the first drama I ever watched. I guess it served as a stepping stone for many people who graduated from anime to drama! Anyway, I remember watching each episode waiting for Sorimachi's "yoroshikuuuu"... Cult, zettai!
Takizawa Hideaki [滝沢秀明]
I can see why so many girls would like him. ;) But here is a reason for us guys: he is a good actor. Period. (and his female counterparts are usually veeery kawaii - ah, there goes the male in me)
Ueto Aya [上戸彩]
She wasn't the greatest actress to begin with, but her being so young means there is room (and time) for improvement. Her latest roles showed that she is getting better and better, and becoming more of a woman. She is definitely one to keep an eye out for!
