Beautiful life [ビューティフルライフ]
A most touching and moving drama! Audience may find the early episodes stale; the depiction of the love between Kyoko and Shuji too ordinary. But the natural, almost life-like depiction only serves to provide a convincing touch to a very moving final ending. The final scene is exceptionally powerful-----to find Kyoko "alive" in Shuji's heart is very reassuring and heart-warming! The drama shows the superb acting skill of Takuya-----how he held back his sorrow and his tears flowing down his face only when he has almost finished the make-up for Kyoko is heart-wrenching. All in all, a very subtle yet powerful handling of a theme commonly found in love dramas. Distinctly different from the melodramatic Korean dramas with similiar themes which invariably bore the audience to death with the characters crying almost non-stop throughout the drama. Highly recommended for audience looking for subtlety.
Chuushingura 1/47 [忠臣蔵 1/47]
Bought DVD in Japan with English subtitles. A well-directed 2 hour TV drama exploring the themes of living and dying. The story is well known in Japan. For non-Japanese audience. the drama provides a good avenue for knowing Japanese history and the samurai values---their perception of loyalty, life and death. Another superb performance by Takuya Kimura. His training in kendo (Japanese sword fighting) and dancing make his body movements flow as smooth as silk in the drama. His rare appearance in a costume drama like this one provides another proof of the diversity and professionalism of Takuya as an actor. This actor has much more than just stunning looks!
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Excellent acript and cast. Tsutsumi's performance most outstanding. He steals the show up to episode 8. Of couse, the focus turned back to Takuya in the last episodes. His reaching out to the sun with his hand was very touching! Again, shows the strength of the directing by giving an otherwise ordinary theme that moving touch. The "sun" theme was skilfully wrapped up with the rising sun shining through the dark passenger cabin in the last episode. A very up-beat drama.
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Strong cast. Excellent acting. Takuya, even in the early stage of his acting career, showed how he could bring to "life" the emotions and aspirations of a young, shy and aspiring pianist. The supporting cast was very strong. Excellent script and directing.
Nemureru mori [眠れる森]
A meticulous plot. Great suspense and heartbreaking ending. Music and photography also excellent. Opening credits poetic, which were echoed in the final end. For Takuya fans-----he was so so .....oh, I do not know what words to describe him........majestic, stunning, captivating, divinely charming !! A must for his fans.
Shiroi Kyoto [白い巨塔]
Excellent script, well developed from beginning to the very end. Superb acting by the main as well as supporting cast. The opening and end theme songs fit in well with the mood of the whole drama. The camera work was beautiful too. Each episode ends in a climax so be prepared to be glued to your TV set once you start to view this series. But worth it. Showing japanese drama at its best.
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Excellent acting and script.

The most outstanding artist and performer in East Asia in the present generation. Stunning looks; multi-talents and years of hard work all added together. Very exceptional. So much charisma and charm that your eyes just follow no one else but him on the screen!

Tsutsumi Shinichi [堤真一]
Excellent actor! Performance in Good Luck manages to steal a lot of limelight from Takuya, which is not easy.

Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Good Luck [Rating: 9/10]
Excellent script and cast. The use of the "sun" theme (Takuya reaching out to the sun) in depicting the "comeback" of Shinkai was very touching. The theme was superbly wrapped up in the last episode when the rising sun shone through the dark passenger cabin. Tsutsumi's excellent acting stole a lot of limelight from Takuya, especially in the early episodes.
Pride [プライド]
Maybe.... [Rating: 7/10]
The drama got on a fabulous start. Takuya was the "star" of the show, his charisma, his dazzling eyes---- when confronting his hockey opponents, when searching for Aki among the spectators, when hitting the goal------is simply irresistable! The plot developed very well, but only up to the point when Halu and Aki discovered that they were in love with each other. Then, the story became wierd and the playful ending to the Halu-Aki relationship reduces their love to something of a game.
