cute!
Inoue Mao [井上真央]
Matsumoto Jun [松本潤]

Not really popular, but I like her a lot.

One of my favorite Japanese actors.
Ninomiya Kazunari [二宮和也]
I like him because it seems like he can play any role.
Oguri Shun [小栗旬]
Shibasaki Kou [柴咲コウ]
Yamashita Tomohisa [山下智久]
He's hot and the way he talks is cute.

Akimahende! [あきまへんで!]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
I thought the characters were really annoying at first, but I grew to like them as the story went on. It's a family drama about some really annoying kids. However, it has a great cast and some really funny moments. 14-year old Ninomiya is so cute!
Ame to Yume no atoni [雨と夢の後に]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Starts out slow, but the second half is excellent. I guess it's kind of a ghost story, but it really focuses on the relationship between father-daughter (even though he is in ghost form, lol). I really enjoyed it and thought it was touching.
Anego [アネゴ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I didn't expect this dorama to be very good, but I was hooked. It starts off slow, but after three of four episodes, it gets really addicting. Worth watching.
Anna-san no Omame [アンナさんのおまめ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
mitaii naaa!!!
Aoi Hitomi to Nuage [蒼い瞳とニュアージュ]

Ashita no Kita Yoshio [あしたの、喜多善男]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Attention Please [アテンションン プリース]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Aya Ueto is so cute!! This drama is funny follows the obstacles someone faces when trying to become a flight attendant. My only complaint is that the ending is a bit disappointing. However, there are specials now so make sure you watch those too.
Bambino! [バンビーノ!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I thought this was going to be stupid, but it was okay.
Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon [美少女戦士セーラームーン]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
When I was growing up, I really, really, really loved Sailor Moon. At first the live action looks cheap and stupid (Luna is a stuffed doll and the transformations are silly), but the story is really good and very different from the the anime at times. I liked how it focused more on their lives at school and at home and how they all become friends slowly than right away. I would say the show was its best in the middle of the season though.
Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Busu no Hitomi Koishiteru [ブスの瞳恋してる]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Buzzer Beat ~ Gakeppuchi no Hero [ブザー・ビート]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Average love story. It was cool to see Aibu Saki play an evil role, I liked how basketball was used, and the leads are cute together. Sometimes the story moved too slowly for me.
Byakuyakou [白夜行]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
had some flaws, but i loved it.
Celeb to Binbo Taro [セレブと貧乏太郎]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Yes, the drama advertised as "based on Paris Hilton". I like Aya Ueto and this drama is cute, but I probably wouldn't watch it more than once.
Code Blue Season 2 [コード・ブルー 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I liked this as much as the first. It's nice to see the interns work more as friends (going out for drink, concern for each other) because it reminded me of my own experiences. I miss the old teacher, but it was cool that they went more into character backgrounds. I really wanted a romance between Aizawa and Shiraishi, but maybe in season 3..? I know that would never happen though.
Code Blue: Doctor Heli Kinkyu Kyumei [コード・ブルー]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Medical flight doctor interns who are all annoying at first, but I started to like them after awhile. You get to see them grow from unsure to more confident about their decisions. There are some cliffhangers and shocking moments on certain episodes that made me keep watching.
Dandori [ダンドリ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
kinda forgettable
Densha Otoko [電車男]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Really silly and entertaining. An anime otaku tries to win the heart of beautiful girl with the advice of his internet friends. Even though it was based on a 'true' story, some of it really wasn't realistic. The characters are really fun to watch though. I liked this more than the movie version.
Dragon Zakura [ドラゴン桜]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
First Kiss [ファースト・キス]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
First Love
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Friends [フレンズ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I loved how it was in both korean and japanese. It's really cute because it features a couple that doesn't speak the same language. It's really short too (just four episodes), so it's great to watch if you are short on time. I'm also really glad I got to see Won Bin again (he is sooo cute).
Fugoh Keiji [富豪刑事]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Gakko ja Oshierarenai! [学校じゃ教えられない!]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
A dance club with dance partners in a high school that has just started accepting male students. It has lots of little couples which is cute.
Gal Cir [ギャルサ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
This has been called the female version of GTO (another teacher drama) and I guess that kind of fits though this is less serious. This is pretty funny. I think this Gokusen has the best cast (Jun Matsumoto, Shun Oguri, Hiroki Narimiya, etc).
Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
I didn't like it as much as the first one. The boys are cute, but it really feels like it's all been done before-- and better. The Sawada Shin-Yankumi relationship is something that I really enjoyed in the first season. Still, the stories are interesting and it's worth watching if you like Yankumi.
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Some episodes were really good and some were just okay... It was the first Takuya drama I watched (I think it was the latest at the time). I was hoping it was a romance because I heard he was really good with those, but it wasn't.
GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
A classic. It's one of those stories about one of those teachers who can just change the lives of everyone for the better or whatever, but GTO is just so fun because Onizuka is far from the ideal teacher. The situations are pretty intense too.
Hachimitsu to Kuroba [ハチミツとクローバー]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Cute, but boring. The story moved very slowly, but I did like the ending.
Haikei, Chichiue-sama [拝啓、父上様]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Hana Yori Dango [花より男子]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
This is my favorite Jdrama. It has a great story and cast. Best of all, it works as a great sample to use and get your other friends into dramas!
Hana Yori Dango Season 2 [花より男子]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
Not as good as the first, but I still loved it!!
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e [花ざかりの君たちへ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Kind of too much going on all the time and the main plot didn't seem to go at a good pace until the end. I didn't like a lot of it, but it's worth watching just to see Nakatsu. I feel like I'm the only person who didn't absolutely love this drama, so you might find it enjoyable.
Hotaru no Hikari [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Cute; somehow I could relate.
Hotaru no Hikari Season 2 [ホタルノヒカリ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Really good start, but began to slow down towards the end... I enjoyed the first season more. The first episodes were really hilarious with her trying to become a suitable bride, but I preferred the romance in the first season.
Ichi Ritoru no Namida [1リットルの涙]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
About a 15-year old girl with an incurable illness. The fact that this is based on an actual diary is so moving. It's really sad at time, but definitely worth a watch.
Ikebukuro West Gate Park [池袋ウエストゲートパーク]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Ikemen Desu Ne [美男ですね]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I really thought this would not match up to the Korean version at all because I knew the story already. I still prefer the Korean version, but the Japanese version had enough slight differences to make it memorable on its own.
Ima Ai ni Yukimasu [いま会いにゆきます]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
A really sweet family drama. Even though Narimiya Hiroki looks too young to be a father, I loved him in this role. He was really sweet the whole time. Nothing too new or exciting, but will keep your interest all the way through.
Iryu [医龍 Team Medical Dragon]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Iryu Season 2 [医龍 2]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
At first I was upset because they added so many new people (and Nurse Miki was almost never there), but after all the focused episodes, I ended up liking everyone. It was good.
IS ~Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei~ [IS〜男でも女でもない性〜]

watching now
JIN [JIN-仁-]
Rating: 9/10
I just wish they would have explained everything (I heard a season 2 has been confirmed(!)). This is my favorite medical drama. The beginning is better, but it's still interesting throughout. It's about a doctor that time travels back to before modern medicine. It's fascinating how he has the "re-invent" IVs using poles and perform operations with hammers....
Joker Yurusarezaru Sosakan [ジョーカー 許されざる捜査官]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Though predictable towards the end, this drama kept me wanting to know what happens next! The cast was great and I'm starting to appreciate Nishikido as an actor the more I see him. It's very dark and different from most jdramas and the action is alright too. I really recommend it.
Kamisama mou sukoshi dake [神様、もう少しだけ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Really kept me entertained and I thought the love story was cute. The cliffhangers made me want to see the next episode right away each time. Interesting parts of this drama was how the lead was a male singer (entertainment world) and the subject of a young girl dealing with HIV (which something I haven't seen covered in jdrama before).
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Kiken na Aneki [危険なアネキ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
The plot sounds silly (a businesswoman who adopts a teenage boy and treats him like a pet), but I it's worth watching. Really cute.
Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo Season 3 [金田一少年の事件簿 3]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Cute!!! I love the suspense of trying to figure out the muderer before Kindachi did. This drama is really episodic and doesn't really feature an ongoing plot. I don't know why the show photo is of Tsuyoshi, but the lead in this version is a young Matsumoto Jun.
Kindaichi shonen no Jikenbo (2005) [金田一少年の事件簿]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Cute!!! I love the suspense of trying to figure out the muderer before Kindachi did. This drama is really episodic and doesn't really feature an ongoing plot, so its good if you want to watch something in small doses.
Kisarazu Cat's Eye [木更津キャッツアイ]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
Buusan has been told he only has 6 months left to live and makes the most of his time by doing crazy stuff with his friends. I honestly haven't seen anything else like it. So funny! The two movies are also very good and worth watching.
Koishite Shinitai [恋して死にたい]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I'm afraid of the dark... especially when I'm in the park. Cute love story about "dedication". This drama isn't very well-written, but it was so addicting!! Very cute and the cliffhangers will make you want to watch all the episodes at once.
Kou Kou Kyoushi 2003 [高校教師 2003]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
A darker drama with lots of twists and a good cast. This was the first Jdrama I watched.
Kurosagi [クロサギ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I loved seeing Yamapi and Maki act together again. The only disappointing point is that it can get a bit confusing at times. Each episode can pretty much stand on it's own. It's cool to see Yamapi dress differently every time.
Last Friends [ラスト・フレンズ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I love the actors and the theme song of this show. The concept is unique, but needs a little work because it got repetitive near the end. I don't like Masami much, but everyone did a good job. I was really surprised with Ryo, he played the role of the abusive boyfriend so well.
Liar Game [ライアーゲーム]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
addicting!
LIAR GAME Season 2 [ライアーゲーム 2]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Very addicting. I liked the games used. I can't wait for the movie!
LIFE [ライフ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Long Love Letter [ロング・ラブレター〜漂流教室]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Interesting, but kind of weird... Starts out as a typical drama until they get thrown into some kind of end-of-the-world survivor type setting.
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I heard this was one of the must-watch jdramas, so I checked it out.. like 13 years after it aired lol. When I watched this, it really reminded me of how much jdramas have changed. It was a little slow to me, but I really liked the relationship between the main characters... They didn't expect to fall in love.
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
this is such a cute couple!
Love Shuffle [ラブシャッフル]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Exchanging boyfriends/girlfriends every week to see which couples work best... For some reason, I never thought I'd see this in a recent Jdrama. Interesting, romantic, and funny, and it even had darker moments.
Majo no jouken [魔女の条件]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Manhattan Love Story [マンハッタン ラブストーリー]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very unique with strange characters.
Maou [魔王]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Good, but depressing. This is a darker drama and Ohno plays the "evil" role really well.
Mendol [メン☆ドル]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I thought it was cute... it was a little too perverted, but it was a late-night drama (that's the style...). I like idols and the girls are cute, so I found it interesting. It's about three girls who hiding from a killer by disguising themselves as a boyband. It could be a lot better, but it was decent.
Minamikun no koibito [南くんの恋人]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Cute, but best when watched in small doses
Mirai Koshi Meguru [未来講師めぐる]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I didn't like this very much. The story is about a teacher who can see what people look like 20 years from now after eating. It had good moments, but it was kind of cheesy.
Moto Kare [元カレ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
A little too slow at times..
MR. BRAIN
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I liked this more than I thought I would. Episodic with a different case each time, but this worked out really well because each case had really famous guest stars. I like how he outsmarts everyone and explains everything in detail, makes you think... The ending isn't complete, so maybe there will be a movie or second season in the future.
Mukodono! [ムコ殿/女婿大人]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Has some really cute moments and the relationship between Yuichiro and Sakura is really sweet. Funny and I loved the ending. Really makes you think about how the Japan idol system works too.
My Boss, My Hero [マイボスマイヒロ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
My Girl [マイガール]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Aiba still isn't a very good actor, but this was an okay drama. The daughter is one of the cutest toddlers and acts very well, so at least that made it easier to watch. It is interesting to see how he adjusts to the father role, since he is still very young. He doesn't really understand the responsibility at first (which is frustrating because a lot of the mistakes he makes were common sense) so the changes he makes in his life are really sweet.
Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku [夏の恋は虹色に輝く]

watching now
News no onna [ニュースの女]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Focuses a lot on how the news is produced. Interesting enough, but a lot of the middle episodes were repetitive to me.
Nobuta wo Produce [野ブタ。をプロデュース]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
The plot is typical; a popular boy tries to make over the class outcast. However, Yamapi's character tags along and he is just crazy. Really funny and cute. I liked the message of the story too.
Nodame Cantabile [のだめ カンタビ−レ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Ns' Aoi [Ns’ あおい ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Orange Days [オレンジデイズ]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
One of my favorites. I love how the story takes place while the main characters are in college and the two leads are great together.
Orthros no Inu [オルトロスの犬]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
There's a lot of plot holes and I wish there was more romance, but overall I liked it and couldn't stop watching.
Papa to Musume no Nanokakan [パパとムスメの7日間]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Really good at first, but kind of got repetitive near the end. Since it's a father and daughter who switch places this time, it is very awkward. This drama does have some laugh-out-loud moments and the actor for the father does a really good job-- he has no shame haha.
Proposal Daisakusen [プロポーズ大作戦]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Remote [リモート]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Ryusei no Kizuna [流星の絆]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
There are so many good things about this drama. The lead actors are all very good (especially Ninomiya). It's a mystery about three siblings who are trying to solve the case of who murdered their parents without the help of the police so that they can avenge their parents on their own terms. The chemistry between them is very good, they look like they could be siblings (Ryo has reminded me of Nino at times in the past), and they seem very close. The story is original (and based on a popular novel). It can be dark and scary, but at the same time, it made me laugh often, which is hard to pull off. It has everything, even romance.
Saiyuuki [西遊記 ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Sapuri [サプリ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu [世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I read the novel and I really liked the drama (I think it's better than the movie). I think the two main actors are perfect for their roles and they work well together (they act together again in byakuyakou). It's a bit slow, but it is definately worth it. It is one of those sadder dramas, but it does have its cute moments.
Shiawase ni Narou yo
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
Great actors, but story is too slow and typical for me. I thought it was going to be more of a comedy, but it's a regular romantic drama.
Slow Dance [スローダンス]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Really nice drama, but the pace was really slow at times. It's about how dreams and priorities change as we grow up. The romance plots and love triangles kept my interest and I really miss seeing Satoshi Tsumabuki in dramas!!
Smile [スマイル]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very good. I think I'd give it a 9, except I don't think I'd watch it again. The story is too frustrating/depressing. The story features a Filipino living/born in Japan and the prejudices he faces. One of the highlights is that Shun Oguri and Jun Matsumoto are acting together again.
Stand UP!!
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
The plot isn't deep or meaningful, just lots of fun. It's about four boys who are trying to lose their virginity before the summer ends, lol. This drama is so funny and I laughed so much! Plus, all the lead boys are now very famous actors.
Strawberry on the shortcake [ストロベリー・オンザ・ショートケーキ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
A high school drama about a boy's crush on his stepsister.. Lots of twists and fun characters. The story moved kinda slow, but it was okay for me. I thought it was very addicting. I like Tackey and Kyoko's as actors (even though some people don't) and Kubozuka Yosuke was really good here (I wish he acted more).
Suekko chounan ane san nin [末っ子長男姉三人]
Rating: 4/10
Boring. The drama was just really generic for me. The characters were interesting for the first couple episodes, but it got old quickly.
Summer snow
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
One of my favorites. Even though this sounds like one of those sad love stories where someone has a terminal illness, it has a good balance of it's funny and sad moments. I was more happy than sad while watching this.
Taiyo no Kisetsu [太陽の季節]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
A pretty dark drama. It's starts out about how Tatsuya vows to get revenge on the rich society at his college, but there are lots of twists. I hadn't seen Tackey play this kind of role before. As the story goes on, it develops into a romance. He was so focused on ruining everyone's lives until, you know, he meets this girl... Touching ending.
Taiyou no uta [タイヨのうた]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
kinda forgettable...
Tatta Hitotsu no Koi [たったひとつの恋]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Teru Teru Ashita [てるてるあした]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
The Quiz Show [ザ・クイズショウ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
The pace of this one is much better than the second one and the story is darker. It felt like the second one is really similar to this, just altered to make the story appeal to a wider audience (which made the second one more typical). I think I like both equally for different reasons.
The Quiz Show Season 2 [ザ・クイズショウ 2]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
1st half = repetitive, 2nd half = good! Very similar to the first one, but the story is lighter, the cast is better, and the budget is bigger. I like both seasons for different reasons.
Tiger & Dragon [タイガー&ドラゴン]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go [特急田中3号]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
funny
Tokujo Kabachi!! [特上カバチ !!]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Honestly, I only watched this for Sho. There are many times when this show is very annoying and it was hard to sit through, especially the first half. The characters are loud, there's unnecessary special effects (lots of text and characters being "zapped" by lightning when proven wrong), and it's very commercial/"idol"-ish with all the giveaways and quizzes included. The characters did get more tolerable as the story went on and I thought Maki/Sho were very cute together. I found myself enjoying the show during the final eps.
Tokyo DOGS ~ Saiaku de Saiko no Partner [東京DOGS]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I really like Shun playing this type of "cool, level-headed" character. The female lead is cute too (she was in Love Shuffle). Hiro overacts a lot of the time, but I guess I kind of get that it's part of his character. The action is cheesy, but whatever. It's exciting, funny, and the little love story is cute. The ending (the one where the credits roll and they walk in the rain) is really pretty. EXILE's music fits really well.
Tokyo Friends [東京フレンズ]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Kind of too slow for me. I just wasn't really into the extra storylines. Otsuka Ai is cute here and her music fit the show perfectly. I'd say it's worth watching for the music. This show was just okay, but I really enjoyed the movie because, by then, a lot of the relationships were finally developed so it really focused on those.
Tokyo Wankei [東京湾景]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I guess it's kind of cheesy, but I was really into it. Definately a romance. Nakama Yukie was really great here. It kind of has "kdrama" vibe and I think I read somewhere that it was loosely inspired by them because this was at the beginning of the "Korean Wave" in Japan. It's interesting to watch to see how "born in Japan Koreans" are treated in Japan. The scene where she goes on a school trip and has to enter a different passport line sticks out in my memory.
Tsubasa No Oreta Tenshitachi 1 [翼の折れた天使たち]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Tsubasa no Oreta Tenshitachi Season 2 [翼の折れた天使たち]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Uta no Onii-san [歌のおにいさん]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Better than i thought it would be :) Cute and fun. The lead character is dressed so silly, but he is actually kind of a bad-ass that just didn't become a rockstar like he originally wanted.
Yamada Taro Monogatari [山田太郎ものがたり]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Dissapointment. I know dramas aren't supposed to be realistic, but they really lost me with some of the decisions Taro made at the end. The episode where they made the movie was very funny though.
Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge [ヤマトナデシコ七変化]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
The first and last episodes were really great! I loved how whenever they call her ugly, she is good enough to fight with the boys. The middle episodes are of varying quality. I'd say the comedy-style is similar to Hana-Kimi and other manga adaptations.
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan [ヤンキー君とメガネちゃん]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very cute and good way to pass the time. Some of the middle episodes were boring, but the beginning and the end made up for it. I loved the ending, it was more than I expected at least.
Yume no California [夢のカリフォルニア]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Zenkai Girl [全開ガール]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very cute and enjoyable. I usually feel hesitant about romantic dramas where children are major characters, but the kids in this story acted well and were adorable. They added to the story and made it less generic than some of the other romantic dramas recently. Aragaki Yui and Nishikido Ryo are a good match as well. I would have rated it higher, but some episodes were better than others.
Zettai Kareshi [絶対彼氏]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
So much better than I expected. The story of a girl with the robot boyfriend sounds so lame, but this story was really fun. Hayami Mokomichi is so robot-like, it's awkward! I felt embarrassed for him so many times! What surprised me the most was that this drama almost made me cry at times, especially during the special. It also made me crave cream puffs like crazy.
