This is an excellent and heartwarming family drama. The entire Mashiba family is awesome. One of my fav scenes ever was when Uta poured a kettle of water on an asleep Horo so that she wouldn't be the only one punished for wetting her futon. Now that's genius, folks. The first opening scene when Horo told us of his birth and introduced his family drew me in. The race in the last ep lead to a satisfying conclusion. Ayase Haruka delivered a noteworthy performance: much love! Of course, Oguri Shun shines the way he always does. This wasn't too much of a tearjerker, but the script, the direction, the pacing and the overall plot combines powerfully to make this one of my all time favourite dramas. Highly recced to anyone looking to be touched by a sweet show.

I love the beautiful shop. I love the cakes. I love pretty much the entire cast, especially Fujiki-san. And I love the OST; Mr. Children is darn sugoi. Sure, it's another food drama, and the ending is sort of 'huh?'. They did try to bring in the BL feel I guess, with that scene between Shiina-san and Fujiki-san, and also that scene between Fujiki-san and Takizawa-san... Koyuki-san is a journalist here (again), and Abe-san is his awkward!funny self. If you like humour, romance and lots of beautiful sweet things, then this one is for you. Fortunately, I love those mentioned things, so this one is definitely for me. Such a pity I couldn't get my hands on a quality version, though... T_T

Bengoshi no Kuzu [弁護士のくず]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
I'm rather conflicted, which is why I refrained from commenting on this drama for a long time. On one hand, I'm a lawyer. On the other hand, it IS somewhat funny. The pun, for one. Most people hype this drama as 'the drama that makes fun of lawyers'. They are wrong. On the contrary, this drama shows what a smart lawyer is capable of doing and the kind of situations out of which they can get you. The cases aren't tough; many of the endings were way predictable. It's still fun to see how Kuzu and his junior get themselves the win. Some of the jokes are quite funny. There isn't much court trial portrayed, rather, more on the investigation. There's also overacting here and there. Hentaiyarou-tachi and perverts will love the show for all the sexual innuendoes and actual X-rated shots. This is especially so when the guys go to the themed club. Innocent goody-two-shoes might find some episodes hard to take, like the one where the murder victim and her stepfather had incestuous relationship. Overall, the drama is okay. Not terrible, but not particularly good either.

Admittedly, I first watched this dorama because I'm in love with its theme song: Graceful World. Turned out that it is a wonderful drama in its own right. I wasn't particularly captivated by the plot, but it was still a worthwhile drama, all in all.

Good parts: Some of the scenes are really slapstick funny, weird funny and/or funny funny. Many of the crime-solving methods are insanely expensive, making them funny. My favourite would be when they investigated the fortune-telling con artist and Fukada pulled out that bill which number was guessed by the client, and then we see the roomfull of rows and rows of cash behind the wall. For some reason, I also love both seasons' opening credits. Gotta love that shot of the diamond-encrusted handcuffs - it really captured the spirit of the show. Bad parts: Fukada's line readings pissed me off a lot even though I know she's supposed to be this bimbo spoilt rich kid. Her colleagues overacted a lot. It really gets repetitive that Fukada solves a case per eps for 2 seasons. It also gets annoying when they repeatedly showcased how rich she is by focussing on the branded things she wears, you know, the way they did in HYD1 when introducing the Eitoku Gakuen students. LV bags, diamond rings, high-end manicure that sort of thing. Conclusion: Average drama. The premise is interesting, a new way of doing cop dramas. Many parts of the acting and line deliveries were cringeworthy. There were some genuinely awesome scenes though.

Ahh... What can I say. I'm a sucker for teacher-student dramas, I'm a sucker for Tsuyoshi AND I'm a sucker for Kansai-ben spouting enthusiastic guys who loves kids. And the kids are bloody cute and funny, too. Yes yes, another school drama. And the plots are of the same knd as that of the rest of its extended genre. But I seriously prefer this one compared to GTO. For one thing, the kids here are better actors than the students of Musashino Seirin Academy, IMHO. And somehow, the weekly plots and results seem more sincere and less cliched here. In fact, I prefer this drama to Gokusen 2. In other words, I would rate this one second best among the group of school dramas I've watched, the best being Kimpachi-sensei.

Gokusen [ごくせん]
Rating: 7/10 (Bought & Watched)
On the negative side, it's typical school drama. Gangster-related teacher: check. A class of troubled yet pretty students: check. A host of fussy administratives who are constantly breathing down the gangster-related teacher's neck: double check. Weekly plots whereby said gangster-related teacher would solve the students' problems in mostly unconventional ways... Oh, you know the drill. On the positive side, though, and there are quite a few, Nakama-san gives a brilliant performance, as she always does. The relationships between the characters are really interesting. Really. The sound effects lend this drama a slapstick feel, which I enjoyed immensely. The main members of the Oedo family are darn funny. And of course, there's Oguri Shun. I seriously SERIOUSLY love this guy. The theme song is not bad. Typical pop song, but fun to listen to. I am indeed a sucker for this sort of dramas...
Gokusen Season 2 [ごくせん2]
Rating: 6/10 (Bought & Watched)
I repeat: I am indeed a sucker for this sort of dramas... This is Gokusen: Recycled. Truly. If not for the bunch of eyecandies, and my undying love for Nakama-san, I would not have watched this till the end. For goodness' sake; they even have a Kuma-clone stuck in there (an example of how un-original this drama is). If they wanted to make a second season, at least create a new bunch of characters. But NO! And Nakama-san's love interest is not nearly as pretty as Ikki-san!! And the theme song is another typical pop song that is still nice to listen to. I'll overlook the awkward grammar. I do like the guy with the fan, though. Hee.

GTO [麻辣教師]
Rating: 5/10
Eh... No. Seriously. The weekly plots are damn cliched. A lot of what Onizuka said did not make an ounce of sense to me. The cast of students are neither pretty nor convincing (if they're pretty then at least there's something for me to look at. And we all know what's important here: ME. Ahem...) As I was saying, I don't like this drama very much. Prefer the manga. The ending is also pretty corny. And gods, I couldn't stand the voice of whoever it was who played Tomoko. So why did I watch this, you ask? Well, It was all Oguri-san's fault. Blast him. >.<

If anyone wants to know the reason I could no longer take Jun-san seriously as a bully/gangster/cool dude, this is it. MOMO!!! KAWAI!!! He's a bloody good actor, though. And a pretty good dancer too. Will there ever be a role for Koyuki-san that is not a journalist? She does a good job here too, though. Much love. Interesting storyline. Pretty good drama, all in all.
Kindaichi shonen no Jikenbo (2005) [金田一少年の事件簿]
Rating: 5/10 (Bought & Watched)
Ok, I am a HUGE fan of the Kindaichi franchise. Manga, gaiden, anime, ova, tv series, and movie. I love mystery, and the Kindaichi storyline, while repetitive, usually presents a good mystery. Therein lies the first problem with this movie: The mystery? Is not a mystery. That is, in the sense that, it is way to easy to solve. The actors are so-so. I'm not much of a Kame fan, so, sorry, no gushing from me. The setting, nothing new. The most memorable thing about it all was the "Kindaichi Hajime v Kaneda Ichiichi v Kaneda Wan Wan" part. If you've watched this movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. And hey, what are the odds that more than one member of the population of a remote village has a super-rare blood type. Then again, whatever means to bring a more or less happy conclusion, I guess.

I'm going to be super harsh because this drama caused me THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR. I watched the first 2 episodes and gave this drama the rating of 8. Since I finished it, I'd wanted to come back and revise it to 1, since there are no negative numbers. That was 2 months ago. Now that I've calmed myself down, I'll just give it a 2. I loved the manga immensely. The drama totally ruined it for me. By episode 6, I even hated YamaPi. Not that I'm a fan or anything, but he's alright. I enjoyed his ill-treatment of the prosecutor-wannabe Tsurara. I'm so very angry with her. I'll get to that in a bit. The three things I hate the most about this drama is: the constantly spitting guy, Katsuragi (freaking gross!); the two love interests, prosecutor-wannabe Tsurara and her annoying stalker of a friend Yukari; and Aikawa Shou's interpretation of Kashina. I love manga's Kashina and I've some love for Aikawa Shou, but his Kashina is ridiculous and the psychopathic-ness is NOT the least bit interesting. His weird laughter makes me want to rip out a cat's gut. I repeat, you'll be grossed out by the constant spitting. I don't care that he's trying to make takuan or whatever. Ugh! He's as sly as a fox, I'll give him that. Just... stop spitting, for feck's sake. His caretaker is sugoi, though, at least. The love interests? Were the bane of my existence throughout the drama. Ichikawa Yui has ruined a total of 3 shows for me, the other being H2 and NANA Movie 2. Unless there's a good reason, I'm avoiding anything with her in it from now on. The prosecutor-wannabe just pissed me off endlessly. You want to prosecute criminals with that kind of characteristics? BS! I grew up watching my dad send people to their deaths and even now I'm in the field. You'll get creamed by the defense if that's how you carry yourself. Please, you're not cutely stubborn. Also, pick a side and make a stand for goodness sake. Have you never heard of Yoda's wisdom? Gah! God, there's just so many things wrong with this show. The cons are stupidly easy that I got frustrated thinking that there are people in this world that fell for it, and I know there are. Yeah, okay, the premise is interesting. Which is why the manga was awesome. Although YamaPi didn't exactly deliver a terrible performance, he still needs lots of experience before doing solo male leads. And what's the deal with all the 'bang bang'? That got really tiring after a couple of eps. *breathes* Apparently, I'm still not calm. This DVD will go to the very back of my CD drawer.

Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji Season 3 [救命病棟24時 3]

Eh... I wanted SO VERY BADLY to like this one. I like the drama, generally. But all the corns and candies overwhelmed - nay, stampeded and wrestled me to the ground in forced submission. Seriously. I have never thought I'd sacrifice anything in order to punch in Eguchi's and Matsushima's respective faces. There's a first time for everything, I suppose. Look, it is a good medical drama. The earthquake setting is both interesting, eye-opening, and educational. But the script could use someone who hadn't been surviving on cotton candy for the last 30 years. You may think that that is my only complaint: the script. But it renders the whole thing so unwatchably boring, that I simply cannot help but highlight it as many times as possible. THE SCRIPT WAS INFINITELY TERRIBLE! And some of the storylines could do well with 120% revamping too. On a positive note, I love the entire cast. Eguchi and Matsushima and Kyono and all delivered a good and heartwarming performance. Oguri Shun is so cute! I can't say that enough. I liked how he transitioned from a loafer wagamama pooh into a responsible far-seeing kid, even managing to rise above obstacles when his older brother broke down. The theme song is awesome. Great directions, too. One of the most surprising things, for me, was me falling head over heels for Koichi Mantaro as Dr. Hibiya. He is such a freaking badass; a complete opposite of Eguchi's Shindo (and a welcome opposite, too, if I may add). So, all in all, it's all good. Not great, just good.
Long vacation [ロングバケーション]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
This is another love story which I highly recommend. I love most of everything about it. The script is marvelous, so is the OST and BGM. I also am totally in love with the central idea of a 'long vacation' i.e. god's way of telling you to take a break when EVERY SINGLE THING is not going your way. From the first scene we see Minami running down the street in her wedding garb, to all the tears and laughter, the philosophy, all the piano pieces! to the very end... *continues gushing* I love all the little moments. Snow that's pure and snow that's been trampled. How a tough person won't cry in front of others but can do so in front of 'furniture'. And what sort of a sweet guy is Sena, to eat paper just so he can spare Minami of more grief! In a way, you know how everything will end, but they keep you hanging enough to keep you guessing. At one point, I'd bet all my money on the photographer, for example. Great acting that made you roll on the floor laughing and made you teary-eyed along with them. In conclusion, a great drama for Kimura's resume and your collection.

Love Revolution [ラブレボリューション]
Rating: 10/10 (Bought & Watched)
I love Fujiki and Oshio! Lets get that out of the way. Okay, then. The whole cast is superb and delivered memorable and outstanding performances; great job there. I like how they start of each episode with Dr. Asaoka rattling off a fact of her life / love, and we later get to see how that plays out. A lot of it is true, I find, for example, the 'waiting for taxi and none would come' part in the first episode. Each of the characters had a purpose and served it marvelously. My fav one is Mari-chan, SHE MAKES ME CRY SO MANY TIMES! I love the plot, and the fact that it is not a straight out happy ending one would expect out of a drama of this genre. The tilte "Love REVOLUTION" is very well-picked and fits the storyline perfectly. I love the banter between the casts. I am amazed at how the writer managed to think up that bit where Mari-chan and Mamoru made love to the capital cities of the world - a bit of genius there - and other little things like that. Keeps everything interesting. I cried three buckets during the Suga/Asaoka goodbye telephone scene. The OST is one of the best in drama history, packed with as much heartwrenching tunes as there is heartwarming ones. I especially love the theme songs! This drama was such an emotional rollercoaster, for the characters and the audience. An excellent one, this was.

It had a more or less interesting premise: Soldiers on a practice mission transported to the warring past. I caught a glimpse of some soldiers on modern day bikes while some were on horses. So I thought I'd give this a watch... Which was what I SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE. The script, which is pretty much the most integral part of a drama IMHO, was a disaster. The setting and overall production was quite terrible. The sounds and background noise was either too loud it drowned out the actors' lines, or too low that you don't know if you actually heard anything or not. The actors were so-so. Not even the small amount of love I have for Sorimachi could save this show in my eyes. Oh, I love his kid, though. Very cute. Oh well. I actually had a lot of hope for this one. It was a miserable disappointment to me, all in all.

But the overall production, the script, the BGM and OST, the casting... This drama is truly top-notch and I could go on and on gushing about it.
