I didn't expect much from Antique because of the ratings - I was only interested in seeing Takizawa Hideaki and Fujiki Naohito (^^). However, I was pleasantly surprised by: (1) the fact that the show is based on a story by Yoshinaga Fumi (a mangaka I like), and (2) how much it made me laugh. I found it cute, funny, and entertaining. Mixed in with the comedy are some touching moments here and there, and the show gets better after the first 4 or 5 episodes. For some reason I was never really fond of Shiina Kippei before, but watching him in Antique made me curious about his other dramas. Anyway, this is not a bad show at all; it has heart and charm.

Nice lighthearted love comedy about a guy who meets a woman at a bowling alley. She shares his passion for bowling, but also shares the same name of his long gone ex-girlfriend (the summary above is not correct). Great chemistry between Kaneshiro Takeshi and Kuroki Hitomi - they make a cute couple! The episodes are somewhat formulaic but they get a little better past ep 4 or 5. I liked the supporting cast of characters and the classic songs (not sure if they are actually sung by Paul Anka). "You are my desitiny..."
Good Luck !! [グッドラック!!]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I really enjoyed this drama because of the story and the complicated relationship between Kimura Takuya and Tsutsumi Shin'ichi (I love misunderstood, aloof characters like Tsutsumi's). Admittedly, there are some overly dramatic scenes and unrealistic situations, but it's all entertaining. Lots of colorful supporting characters, like the flight crew and the family of Kimura Takuya's character. Kou Shibaski acts well, but I couldn't see any chemistry between her and Kimura Takuya. One thing to note is the excellent ending theme!

I LOVE this show! Definitely in my top 10. Inoue Mao is excellent in it. Even though this is the only piece of work of hers I've seen so far, she's now one of my favorite actresses. Such a great ending scene too -- you can really see the emotion on their faces. I've rewatched this drama numerous times. (^-^) Highly recommended.

An episodic criminal justice show with a quirky, endearing cast of characters - just what I like. The romance is downplayed in this one, but it was nice to see Kimura Takuya and Matsu Takako together again. Recommended.

Enjoyed this playful portrayal of two childhood friends living together, disagreeing with one another, giving each other support, and experiencing change in their relationship as they try to make it in the big city. The audience is given a nice behind the scenes peek into the world of publishing. Matsu Takako's character can be trying at times, but I think she did a cute job protraying someone full of energy and gumption. The audience can see how her character matures and learns to accept her real talents as the show progresses. Sakaguchi Kenji's character is endearing in his own way, but IMHO, it isn't very convincing when he has a change of heart suddenly. (Though, hey, we're talking about dorama here!) It really is unfortunate that Kashiwabara Takashi had to drop out after the 2nd episode, but his replacement did a good job. I would've preferred a little more romantic tension between his character and Matsu Takako's, but perhaps it wouldn't ring true with her character's tendency to be one-track minded. I liked the opening song and colorful credits. Nice show.

It's not an exciting show, but it's got it's moments. My first time watching anything with Fukatsu Eri, Mizuno Miki, and Shiina Kippei. I watched it without subtitles, so I tried my best to figure out what was happening using the elementary Japanese I know. Fortunately, each character's personal story wasn't too complicated. Shiina Kippei's character isn't particularly interesting. He's paired up with the boring one out of the three girls - Nakayama Shinobu's character. Funny, I don't even remember the Backstreet Boys playing in the background. Shows how much of an impression the show left on me! (^_^;)

Not very realistic but a highly amusing show. The whole time I was glued to the screen, watching one episode after another, thinking, "Are they? Or aren't they?!" At the time I watched this I was about the same age as Koyuki's character, so the show got me thinking a little about if I would ever consider a romantic relationship with someone that much younger than me. Matsumoto Jun is cute in this one and really fit into the dancer role. At any rate, it's a fun drama. There sure are a lot of kissing scenes in this one... (^-^)
Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo Season 3 [金田一少年の事件簿 3]
Kinyoubi no Koibitotachi e [金曜日の恋人たちへ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Though the plotline is average, the ups and downs in the show kept my interest. The acting is excellent - especially by Fujiwara Norika. I was really impressed. As for Mizuno Maki, she has such expressively sad eyes. I'm sure there are people out there who can't or won't be able to stand her character, but I couldn't help feeling sympathy for her. I mean, seriously, how would you like it if you were inexplicably left by the love of your life, only to have them show up and by chance fall in love with your best friend? I even got my mom to watch this one with me! We marathon'd this show over one weekend. (^^)

Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
The title of this drama is actually "Koi wo Nan Nen Yasundemasuka?" It didn't grab me right away in the beginning, but the mounting events and pensive feel slowly drew me in. Overall, I enjoyed it very much and looked forward to finding out the conclusion of each character's story. I wish Iijima Naoko's marital issues had more air time, because it seems her situation is treated more like a comic relief device. Great performances by the whole cast all around.

I'm still unsure of how I should rate this. I liked the overall plot: the portrayal of two men in the same field experiencing different stages in their careers. Not only do they have a complicated professional relationship with each other, they're in love with the same woman. However, I was wholly unsympathetic with Miyazawa Rie's rather pathetic character. I was still compelled to watch to the very end, though when the end did finally come, I was left thinking, WTF?

I agree that this is a classic, but I'm not as crazy about it as other people. At any rate, I have to say that Yamaguchi Tomoko is a gem in this one. Her character is simultaneously cute, charming, and annoying. I think this is my favorite of Kimura Takuya's various roles. The rest of the cast is great too wiith awesome chemistry between them.
Love generation [ラブジェネレーション]
Rating: 10/10 (Watched)
My first jdorama love. Although I wasn't happy with all the needless misunderstandings between the two main characters, and I didn't always agree with the characters' decisions, I believe these qualities make a gripping, tense, and exciting drama! I think Kimura Takuya and Matsu Takako had wonderful chemistry. Great soundtrack too. Highly recommended.
Lunch no Joou [ランチの女王]

I could not stop watching this show - I was totally addicted! I can understand why people have a problem with the storyline, and from a realistic point of view, there are a lot of unanswered questions. However, IMHO, I think the point of this show was to make people question the pressures and prejudices of society and to show that love (romantic, familial, etc.) comes in many forms. I admired how the main characters find the courage to stay true to themselves and manage to carry on through all the hardships. (My goodness, Matsushima's character goes through SO much.) Great performances by Matsushima Nanako, Takizawa Hideaki, and Kuroki Hitomi. My only wish is the ending went a little further... At any rate, this show is one of my favorites and I could watch parts of it over and over.
Manatsu no Merry Christmas [真夏のメリークリスマス]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
There's great chemistry between Takenouchi Yutaka and Nakatani Miki and they acted well, but I hardly felt sympahty or concern for most of the characters. The only reason I kept watching it is so I could find out what happens to Takenouchi and Nakatani. The story is quite lacking in substance and the ending falls flat. Loved the closing credits, though.

Not a bad drama at all - one of the more realistic ones I've seen. Started off on a quick pace and then slowed down after the 4th or 5th episode. The best episode was definitely the last one because everybody came to their senses and did the reasonable and mature thing.

Pretty Girls [プリティガール]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
I tried, but I haven't been able to get past the 3rd episode. Izumi Inamori's character has a lot of cute charm, but she can't possibly carry the whole show. From what I've seen (though I admit it's not much), the plot is not at all interesting and the story seems to unfold at turtle speed. I would like to finish it someday, but I'm still undecided if it's worth my time.
Pride [プライド]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Great story about love, friendship, and determination. Both my husband and I enjoyed this show and its awesome soundtrack, though we feel that some aspects of the last few episodes are a little too unrealistic. Nevertheless, the main actors and supporting cast undoubtedly shine, and we had a lot of fun watching from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Pure [ビュア]

Watched it years ago on TV and didn't get past the first few episodes. I just could not accept the premise of this story because I felt it was too unrealistic. From the little I observed, however, I could see that the acting was good.

For me, watching this show was like watching a train wreck over and over. I was helpless to stop it but couldn't tear my eyes away from it. From my experience working with mentally challenged kids, I do feel the show portrays them in a stereotypical manner. They are not simply "innocent angels." However, the performance by the main cast is excellent, especially by Ishida Issei. I also admired the themes of friendship, self-respect, and making a stand, even if the rest of the world seems to be against you. Overall, I recommend this show, though the wretched abuse the characters go through can be suffocating to bear. It isn't until the very end that you're allowed to breathe.

It's a good story, only for Akashiya Sanma and Fukatsu Eri's performances and the theme of tragic, twisted fate. However, I struggled through trying to finish this series because I found it slow and somewhat boring. As for Kimura Takuya's performance as a vulnerable, mysterious, and complicated character -- there is nothing really unique or excellent about it (I guess I'm in the minority about this one).

Tentai Kansoku (not Kanzoku) is a heartfelt story about the strong bond between seven friends as they struggle with young adulthood. The main cast gives thoroughly convincing and moving performances. I really liked this drama. Granted it has some ultra-cheesy qualities, e.g., common and predictable plot devices, sappy lines, and unbelievable moments like "That's the same thing my mom's boyfriend said to her!", but I felt sincere love between Nakama Yukie and Wada Toshihiro's characters in their quiet, reserved way. Maybe it was just the awesome soundtrack that kept me interested in the show. (^_~)

Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
This show is really something. It had me laughing, especially when Tsutsumi Shinichi's character Osuke and his friends would get together. Matsushima Nanako did an excellent job. But honestly, I could not believe her character, Sakurako, sometimes! My goodness, there were moments I could just kick her. It was, however, wonderful to see her eventual transformation, or rather her acceptance of her true feelings. Osuke and Higashijujou (played by Azuma Mikihisa) are just too good to be true, aren't they? At any rate, I really enjoyed the comedy, the acting, and of course, the romance. Definitely recommended.
