this taiga drama actually looks pretty interesting. Fuurin Kazan kind of sent me to bed, even after it started off strong.

I've not seen a taiga before. I'm going to watch the first ep, even though it's not subbed, just to see what it's like Smile - in less than an hour, if my download continues the way it's going.

Fuurin Kazan, at least the last ten episodes, has somewhat renewed my interest in Taiga Dramas so I'm going to take a look into this one while I still can. Hope they don't royally screw up another end-of-Tokugawa-Era drama like they did with Shinsengumi. Shit...

Erika's drama was just a jidaigeki special, http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Yukinojo_Henge

but she is rumored to appear in Atsu-hime in the later episodes.Smile

I saw the preview for this and it's definetly risen to my "gotta check it out" list. I was a little apprehensive at first because it sounded like it was going to be boring, but my opinion is changing. Miyazaki Aoi's acting looks to be quite impressive. Cinematography, production quality....the scenes I saw I would place next to the quality of movies. When compared to the previous Bakumatsu taiga, Shinsengumi looks like a bunch of high schoolers filmed it on their free time.

They were showing previews last nite after Fuurin Kazan It does look interesting, but still, that's the whole point of previews to get you interested. It doesn't start here until Feb. 9th.

Yeah, I caught a little of that when I was channel surfing...

They're pretty quick with the subs, seeing that the show started only several weeks earlier...

If they only had subbing crews like that for ALL dramas..... Puppy Dog Eyes

Of course, it will have subtitles, where did you see that it wouldn't?

A-Dad's in Australia... Maybe he doesn't have access to the hardsubbed version we're getting in California... Sweat

Yeah...I'm getting tired of seeing dramas on Saturday with no subs...of course, that's TTV, I don't think they do any for the dramas they show.

Atsuhime looks really interesting...the time period it covers was always an interest for me in college.

Not that I'm using my history degree for anything. I am looking into a masters in Japanese studies though.

Looks like Atsuhime covers late Edo and early Meiji eras.

I don't see this one becoming popular for those looking for down and dirty Kyoto street fighting. Looks to be more involved in the political behind the scenes of the Bakumatsu and Meiji Restoration.

I didn't see any casting for the Shinsengumi, so at best I see them as nameless extras. I think they might be centering the series in Edo rather than Kyoto.

That would have been an improvement to the emo-Shinsengumi whining we had to endure. Mr Green

I've downloaded and watched the first episode so far.
I was born not far from Kagoshima city, further south to be exact.
So it brings back lot of good memories. (Natsukashii)
I usually go back every year, to Tokyo area and my home town area, so looks like early May of this year.

I'll post some photos from last year of Kagoshima area that were in the first episode.
