So is every building in this show going to have a view of Sakurajima?

I don't like Taiga dramas. However out of deference to Aoi Miyazaki I watched the first episode. Since she did not appear yet, I will watch a few more and see if Miyazaki can overcome my dislike of Taigas and suck me in to watching this hmmm for 52 weeks???? At least so far they did show more than the usual endless closeups of bedraggled unkempt barely legible brutes as in other Taigas. That's a good thing.
Fingers crossed

It may take a couple weeks before she appears ralph. I remember with Kyoumei ga Tsuji it started out with Yukie's character as a young girl, and I don't think Yuki showed up until about episode 3 or 4. The challenge for me will be putting up Eita's ears!!!

Missed this. Did anyone without a pre-existing hatred of taiga dramas see it? Any good in your opinions?

Honestly, if you're watching the series for the sole purpose of seeing a favorite actor/actress, I say don't bother. As good as they are, they can only work within the limits of what the show provides. It's very unlikely that Miyazaki Aoi's performance will make the drama watchable to you if dislike taiga dramas themselves. It's like eathing the dried nori in your udon when you hate udon.

I didn't catch the show on TV either (since I'm already up to ep. 5), but if they aired the 1st ep. in 2 parts like past Taiga's, then you'll definitely see her next week (she made her entrance at around 36:39).

I don't have a pre-exisiting hatred of taigs's (except Yoshitsune which was crap) my biggest complaint is that they should have used Manami Konishi in the lead, she really was born in Kagoshima. Good
@ concertmaster, yeah, it looks like they're showing episode 1 in 2 parts, they cut it short at about 30 minutes last night.

LOL, good analogy... And I agree: make the commitment or don't... Straddling the fence doesn't work.

And it hurts, to boot. Beaten

Quite true and I may have to give it up after I see her for a while. On the other hand maybe for once they will actually show more than endless closeups of dirty faced actors who grunt more than speak their lines. Then if they have more scenes with 2 or 3 or 4 actors at once it may be interesting but of course always spurred by my desire to see Aoi. Believe it I actually enjoyed a Taiga and watch it often... Hidden Blade. I watched it because of Takako Matsu and ended up truly liking it. Somehow or other the producers goofed up and showed lots of scenes of landscarpes and group ensemble actors. It was more of an actual story than single actors giving endless monologues.

I thought it started out good...it'll be nice to have a slightly more intimate storyline without "gigantic" battles of the same 20 extras. I'll have to wait for the second part from stupid KTSF before I can finish judgement though.

Uh, a single movie doesn't constitute a Taiga...

Actually, it's just a fancy title that NHK put on all of their super-miniseries...

That's why I enjoy Hidden Blade so much. The action moves swiftly without endless monologues so you can actually tell what's going on.

I was just being tounge-in-cheek with the hatred part; and thinking Yoshitsune was crap isn't hatred, it's having taste. Mr Green I'm just looking for opinions on whether the series will be worth watching since my free time is running out soon. I believe it was on your suggestion that I check out Fuurin Kazan which now ranks as one of my favorite dramas, so I trust the judgement of members here. Also, Miyazaki Aoi is praised highly, and I'd like to see her performance....except the part with the eyes painted on her eyelids. That scares me. Shocked

I feel really stupid having to ask this, but did they start airing this in the US on KTSF yet? Fingers crossed My TiVo told me it wasn't on, but I recall my Japanese teacher saying it might have started a week or so ago.

If this is the wrong spot to be asking, please let me know.

You might check the KTSF thread in the J-Ent forum... I know it started down here in SoCal this past Saturday (Feb 9)...

How is it anyway? I see it regularly on Share, but I can't get myself to download it.
