At least it's a nice, clean theater. I've been there a few times. This is my first time reading about this film festival. Thanks for posting.

Oooh, nice. Victory! Peace!

EDIT: Harakiri looks like a remake of the version starring Nakadai Tatsuya...

It takes more than a pretty face to be part of the Nisei Week Court. Here they are performing at the sister city festival in Nagoya last Fall. The guy is the one that supervised their trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G-BfIY2FaA

Maybe they figure the one over in Pacific Square Mall in Gardena is enough for just the Japanese stuff.

And it looks like that was the plan all along. I stopped by the Boof Off in Del Amo last week and it is thriving, doing very well with just english speaking stuff. Today I went to the Japanese one in Pacific Square Mall and they said, yeah, it's all Japanese in their store now.

Makes sense in a way. If I'm looking for just Japanese stuff I don't have to waste my time going to Del Amo and vice-versa.

That's welcome news. The parking meters got bumped up to 2 bucks a hour in J-town and now you have to keep sinking in money until 8pm not 6pm like it used to be for decades. Grumble

California has a pretty sizable Japanese population... Maybe the largest in the US?

Or is it Hawaii?

From Wiki:

In the 2000 census, the largest Japanese American communities were in California with 394,896, Hawaii with 296,674, Washington with 56,210, New York with 45,237, and Illinois with 27,702.

Of those with Japanese ancestry in the state of California most of them are located here in Southern California. No surprise.

According to the 2000 census, there are 796,000 people of pure Japanese heritage in the U.S. (288,854 in Southern California) and 1,148,932 Japanese Americans of mixed heritage (394,896), giving California the largest Japanese American population in the country.

Yeah just within Los Angeles County alone there are at least three well known concentrations of Japanese businesses - Little Tokyo near downtown L.A., Sawtelle Blvd in West Los Angeles, and then there is a much larger representation of Japanese businesses (and residents) in the Torrance/ Gardena area (the "South Bay.")

A little surprised that Hawaii wasn't number one... And more so that Illinois is in fifth place.

Illnois, 27000? I saw more Japanese last time they had a food fair at the Mitsuwa in Torrance.
