I finally got through all the posts on this thread.

All I can say is, there are plenty of places in USA where you would not be treated well such as in the south if you are a foreignor, especially a non-white foreigner.

According to the 2000 japanese census, one out of every 20 newly-wed couple was a marriage between a Japanese and a non-Japanese foreignor. I don't think that would be possible in a country where the people absolutely loathed foreignors. If Japan were so hostile to foreignors why would there be so many living in Japan that there would be such a high rate of intermarriage? If I went to a foreign country where I felt discriminated against, I'd get the hell out of there.

Probably no higher than the rate for the general population in the U.S.

A couple's divorce has little to do with the original issue of how foreignors are viewed. It means they fell out of love and couldn't stand being with each other anymore. Even if every single Japanese loved and welcomed a foreignor divorce would still exist.

I've got a few questions about that:

-Where would you teach? What level - that is?

Okay, it's not as easy as it sounds. First, you must have a BA degree in order to teach English in Japan.

It would be very difficult to just go to Japan on a tourist visa and expect to be hired. What you should do is to find an agency that places candidates in private English conversation schools where most of the students are adult Japanese or in public middle or high schools. There are some English schools for primary school age kids. I've even heard of daycare centers who hire English speakers so that the kids begin learning English at age 2 or 3. The agency should help you obtain a visa so that you can live and work in Japan.

Many English-speaking foreignors who teach English in Japan (Americans, Aussies, New Zealanders, Canadians, Brits, etc.) get there without any ability to speak Japanese, which will make their transition to the new country quite a hardship. They eventually learn Japanese quickly, and Japanese is not expected to be spoken much in the classes.

One last thing, they prefer white foreignors, or at least non-Orientals, especially non-Japanese descendants. Most Japanese feel they get their money's worth if they're actually studying from someone who "looks foreign."

What if you are a non-european born and raised in teh USA- will they view your English as "inferior"?

This is a repeat of an old thread, neh? Also, it's in the wrong discussion group. Gomen.

To be openly honest, EVERY country is bound to have people that dislike foreigners or have racists and the likes. Even Japan as a highly educated and advanced society has people like that.

To be honest, I know this may possibly offend the majority but I think Japan's racist record is worse than America's and nearly as bad as Nazi Germany's by looking at the way they treated the Koreans, Chinese, and my Filipino brothers and sisters (PiNoY pRiDE). Some businesses in Japan still do segregated restraunts and baths even today. Koreans born in Japan are not even allowed citizenship.
