Actually, if you visit, it would be a problem because any country will welcome tourist money. But it's another story if you go there to live, and thus competing for jobs against other JPNese. Read the below link, a real eye opener.

Let me put it this way, idiots are everywhere. I, for myself, wouldn't want to be of african origin around here, cause in the eyes of many people "niggers" (please excuse this term, but I've heard it too often even here) are drug dealers and criminals. And I have to add, that this view also crashed into local police. I've once seen police checking ALL black people (but no whites; surprise? I'm tempted to say "no way in hell") in a subway train, needless to say that some of them were UN workers, didn't help them much, they all had to leave the train and were checked outside. I was like "WTF, are we back in 1938?!" when I saw that.

I have a friend who came from Germany to work in Austria, and even he has some problems every now and then.

I actually thought that those idiots would die out slowly, but well, thanks to people like LePen and Haider in Europe, they're still around. And I don't think it's just a japanese, or austrian, or french or american problem, it's everywhere.

Xenophobes are everywhere, sadly though, but well, there have to be idiots on this world too, neh? Keep in mind not all people are like that.

You'll probably find more Anti-Americanism in places like Okinawa. One of my teachers told me when he went alast yaer, he still found segregated baths and restraunts in Japan. They wouldn't serve him or even let him in.

I also heard even Japan-born Koreans are not allowed citizenship.

Altho you'll find that most uchinanchu will tolerate foreigners, some will not like americans no matter what. And with news like these: "Marine Sentenced To Jail In Okinawa", who can blame them?

There are Gaijins who have had absolutely wonderful experiences in Japan, while others who were miserable.

Why don't you just go and find out for yourself?

Are Gwailos treated any better in China, Taiwan or Korea?

One thing to keep in mind. There are so many non-Japanese in Japan today, one in every 50 people in Japan is a Gaijin. WHY would anyone go to a place where you KNOW you would be treated badly? WHY would they stay?

I would never go to a Southern state like Mississippi or Alabama because I know I'd be treated less than kindly.

As for citizenship, anyone can apply for a citizenship in Japan. It's just not automatic just because you happen to be born there. All the top Gaijin SUmo wrestlers have become citizens as well as a female softball player from China who wanted to play for the Japanese national team (this was made into an episode of "Project X")

Wow I didnt know Okinawa practiced segregation. That was the place I wanted to visit when I go to Japan. Now I think otherwise.

So as an american, hispanic-american, should I stay away from the smaller more rural cities and just stick to the big cities?

I know places in Tokyo practice segregation too but I never see them.

I think Bob Sapp will one day become Prime Minister of Japan one day Bleah

Anyway, if it's anything I hate more than anything, it's racism. I pretty much have nothing against "hate" since that is human nature. I just find it sick that there are people that hate each other because of their heritage and something they did not choose when they were born. If you're going to hate someone, hate them for their character, their choices, their beliefs, something they have control over.

And if you're racist, I hate you.

I have recently planned on going to Japan late this Augest, but then when I logged onto the net to look up Traveling guide's, I came across this site that say's Japan is known for their dislike to other nationallites (I'm SE Asian by the way). I'm not saying that all Japanese are racist or the country is bad, but many of my reletive's who have traveled there who are very good with their Japanese say that when they where there they experienced many racial problem's among Japanese citizens. I didn't believe it at first, but when it was my turn to go, I can across that website and totally had second thought's, but I'm still going, because I've already paid for the trip, but I would still like to know if the country was big on racisim. or are they recently thrying to change that around.

I don't think Japanese people are racist at all! They are probably the most polite and friendly people I have ever met. If you're going to Japan, all I can say is GO! GO! GO! I think you'll have one of most enjoyable experiences of your life w00t!
Edit: The only time it felt weird for me was when I went into a McDonald's(I know, I go all the way to Japan just to eat at McDonald's, baka yaro, ne! Bonk ) and I looked around and realized I was the only non-Japanese person in the place. I had a little panic attack, but I got over it.

Rather than saying they are racist, I think the Japanese are better described as 'self-centred'. They are very proud of their culture, and may seem hostile towards those who violate their values. It is very easy to take their reaction as racist.

The Japanese are bred to be polite, but that does not mean they are genuinely friendly. They value etiquitte, so it is best to put on your best behaviour at all times. While the Japanese can be very casual among friends, they are very formal towards unacquainted persons. In short, being more polite than you would do in a western environment, such as the US, will help you enjoy your stay.

There may be a grain of truth with what you have read in one of the guides. However it should be corrected and explained cleary. They may seem very racist and often people mistake them to be racist. They are not. Rather they are the one of the xenophobic peoples in the world. On a lighter note, nobody can beat North Korea on being the most xenophobic people in the world. hehehe

A testament to this is the one kanji character for representing foreigner or alien to be exact in the english language. It is a pictograph of a closed gate. That is how they treat ideologically foreigners or aliens.

But you may ask why most are them are so kind to you? hehehe... Thats another story. It has something to do with the unique japanese cultural concepts of honne and tatamae. I believe that you would better understand them if you google for them.

I am a Japanese Studies minor in a university, by the way. And most of what I said really came from my sensei who is a true blood Nihonjin who happens to be a sociologist and married to a foreigner. I just mentioned this because someone may tell me im a pessimist or racist against the Japanese. Please dont send hate mail my way. I am truly not racist or against them by the way. I really admire them as a culture and people.

this is FYI and i really want to clear things up.

That's very true. I was there for a month and a half. It was difficult for me to not get mad at the "self centerd"-ness as thtl puts it. But that isNOT to say that japanese are self centered, although that's a good description. I think it's as thtl says, they are very proud of their country and beliefs.
However, many of the japanese I encountered were very open.
I had one of the best experiences of my life Good Luck!

Written by retards.

1) Filipinos or people of other countries is logically equivalent to "people of other countries".

2) foreigners == "people of other countries", so this rule is the same as 1.
