Title: Sushi Oji!
XVq!
Prince Sushi!
Telecast: 2007-07-27

KinKi Kids member Domoto Koichi stars in this action comedy series. Domoto plays Tsukasa Maizu, who was known for being a gifted sushi maker when he was younger. Now skilled as a martial artist, he returns to the world of sushi and travels across the country for training, fighting evil along the way. KAT-TUN's Nakamaru Yuichi takes on the role of Tsukasa's companion, Taro.

I don't know what to think about the fighting evil part, but hopefully it'll be a well done food drama. Fingers crossed

Sounds almost like a variant of Kuitan.

Pass.

Especially because of the J-Pop star infestation. bleh

hehe

I'm hopeful it'll be something like shota no sushi, not some guy fighting and eating sushi for lunch. I bet it's easier to do something popular and brain dead entertainment vs interesting.

Of course.

Pile up a buncha pretty boys with them pouting and combing their hair for 11 episodes and you got a ratings winner. bleh

Look at U.S. TV: nothing but reality shows for the brain-dead masses...

Watching paint dry never looked more appealing.

Some tv promo -

Edit - I've just realized that the kanji for "prince" is made of
Ou = king, and ji = child. So cute!

You'll notice that he didn't look completely agonized when the goat stepped on him. Now, does that tell us anything? hehe

LMAO!!! This topic is going in a very.... Unique direction
(I'm sure this isn't on topic, we'll be getting in trouble Beaten )

TH CM didn't do a lot for the show did it??? hehe If I wasn't interested already I don't think my opinion would have been swayed by that... in fact I probably would have been put off lol.

Yeah... Probably used to entice people by showing nothing, so you'll ask yourself what this show is about for a week or two.

Just watched ep. 7; by far the funniest of the series. Coming from the director of the hit series 'Trick', 'Keizoku', 'IWGP', but also the bomb that is 'Shimokita Sundays', I didn't know what to expect at first. The 1st 2 episodes were not exactly confidence boosters either but it started to get better afterwards and finally hits its stride in the last few episodes. Unfortunately next week is the finale (don't know if it's being cut short just like 'Katagoshi no Koibito' because of poor ratings or originally planned), which is really a shame.

Just like Trick, the humor and comedy is mostly dependent on a lot of puns and Japanese cultural references. There's some physical comedy and there are times where shots were so full of sight gags, puns, and physical comedy to the point of sensory overload that you have to really pay attention to get the jokes. I don't claim to get all the puns but from what I got they were still pretty funny. Despite being a 'Johnny', the male lead is not bad. No nice clothings, bad hair style, w/ even a cut or 2 on his face and acting like a idiot most of the time.

Whether non-(or non-native)Japanese speaking folks enjoy this will depend largely on the translation and familiarity w/ Japanese culture. In ep.7, there's a reference to a famous line in a popular japanese manga and those who haven't read it or watch the anime will be completely lost and miss, imo, the funniest part in the episode.

Cool! Glad to know the series is good. I loved Trick and IWGP. I haven't watch the other 2, so I can't comment on those.

I'll put it on the top of my to watch list. Thanks for the info. Thumbsup
