Could there be a way (using DHTML, CSS) to add a birthday indicator on the featured artist/artist pages on their birthday?

At another website they had a problem with the "spamming" of a particular entertainer's thread. People would post in there with nothing useful. Only to make that individual's thread grow big and make it appear that the entertainer in question is great and super popular.

The admin at that site wisely limited 2 posts per day from each IP address to that one thread.

Note: It isn't all the threads, just that one. A few people would go nuts in there. If there's 100 threads (1 for each entertainer) and 99 of the threads have roughly the same number of pages and posts, but one thread has 10 times as many pages.... something is wrong. Beaten

Sounds like a good idea, but PHPBB is pretty limited in what you can do with it. Unless Genma can code something himself Bonk

Yes.

SELECT * FROM members
WHERE post_count < 55000
DELETE;

Genma does it from times to times. There are a bunch of zero posters, but some of them actually visit the site to list their dramas.

Yeah, I posted about a PHPBB hack I installed in another forum that does exactly that, but Genma said he already does it regularly. Just not for members that have drama lists. (Like you said Bleah )

im thinking to be fair..

SELECT all
From a members, b post_log, c thread_title
where a.memberid=b.postid
and b.post_count <5000
c.title like in ('matsujun', 'mm', 'sabertooth', 'ak48', 'visual kei')
to_number(to_char(b.post_date, 'YY')) <2007
delete;

I noticed that in most artist threads and "help" threads it is really hard to find information on the topic without having to search for them. In some artist threads, I have no idea how the person looks until I get to the back of the thread when people start posting pictures.

My suggestion is to put all the vital stats on the first post of all topics. Whether it be a picture or 2, info on the artist, their works, etc.

As for the "help" threads, it would be convenient if all links to programs, and whatnot could be in the first thread so people don't have to search around to find out what they are looking for.

I hope that this can be done because I believe it would be very useful for future reference.

Just for curiosity I looked at the first 3 pages of artistes and calculated the ratio between the number of pages viewed and the number of posts.

The most over-posted threads are:
31 Motokarya Yuika
47 Tabe Mikako
48 Yonekura Ryoko
52 Ueno Juri
89 Ueto Aya

And the most viewed threads per post are:
280 Murakawa Eri
240 Nakatani Miki
232 Nagasawa Masami
232 Inoue Mao
221 Ito Misaki

That's only for actors and actresses... I'll bet you'll find it worse in the J-Ent forum with all those groups and singers....

Feel free to shoot me if this has been suggested already, but I think each forum should have subforums where threads are organized. For instance, the baseball, football, Olympic threads could go into a sports subforum, the computers, hi-def threads into a tech section, etc.

For artistes, could we group them my family name? This could reduce the number of "this thread already exists". If they can't find it in an organized section, then Bang Head. As it is, there are too many pages to fish for a specific topic.

That's where the Search Engine comes in.

Honestly, nothing'll help lazy people, no matter how organized you get... I mean people don't even see the Sticky threads... Shake Head

True. Is there a way to add a "search thread title" option? Right now, it also include message texts if you want title searching done.

I've been carping about that addition for a while now... It'd help topic searches immensely. Victory! Peace!

Carp +1

Could we also add a mobile site plugin to phpBB so that the forum is formatted for the on-the-goers like myself? If there was a test forum, I could try to test one out....
