I was just wondering where everyone would like to retire when they get older. I know thats a long way for some of us, especially me, but its something we gotta think about. Assuming you dont have financial problems.... hehe where would you like to retire at?

Personally I would like to retire in a small little town or village in Japan and live happily without all the noise of the city all the time, but having the option to visit the city whenever. Big Grin

I'll resist the urge to respond with Antarctic sex colony.

It really doesn't matter where I retire as long as I stay alive long enough for technology to evolve to a point where they can move my brain into a robot body. Just think, laser beam eyes, chainsaw hands, and the strength of five gorillas. Oh, and maybe some of those Altezzas everyone seems to love wired into my robot buttocks.

If you want to go, check it out with lovelessemotion first. He's in charge of most of the important aspects of the colony: leading, recruiting, penguin army formation, etc. I'm mostly in charge of the "break dancing" and "chocolate syrup acquisiton" side of things.

I've WAY dis-counted social security already and would never think that people of our generation (or younger) in getting anything back. Best stick to your 401K and/or Roth IRA. Incedentally, this is just for the US, but how does the rest of the word save up to their retirement?

Maybe in other countries, the government takes care of their people...

in singapore, its compulsory to save up for ur retirement thru the CPF. its not a pension, its deducted frm the nett salary u earn as calculated by employer's and individual contribution.
rite now cos of uncompetitive wages, singapore's cpf rate is now at 33%. recently they changed it to such tat as u become middle aged, ur individual contribution drop so as to supposedly keep companies to hire older staff. cos in the recent retrenching wave during the financial crisis, middle aged staff were often the first to leave.
so the nett effect is tat basically u are just going to get less when u retire. our healthcare is paid out frm our own dam money in the CPF thru schemes called medisave n medifund which we can take out frm during hospitalisations.

to be honest, i tink the Western social benefits of pension n welfare tat give u money while u are jobless is a dam dumb idea. Yar well its great but it costs the state so much money.
WAKE UP! cos there are a few billion asians willing to work much harder (theres no such stuff as minimum wages in asia, neither is there ideals like a 5 day work wk, we pay for our own healthcare, the state pays for NOTHING). Small countries with no natural resources like ours risk being sucked up by China's booming economy. All countries in asia are suffering frm China's boom and soon the Western world will be as well thru outsourcing of jobs etc. The onli advantage the western world is well tat most of the MNCs are mostly western and the entrepreneurship tat the more creative Westerners are capable of.

In singapore, its a hectic pace of life here, maybe americans can still fit here (frm places like NY) but Europeans/Aussies often tink we are mad to work so hard. Well wat most singaporeans who have worked in china said tat the hunger n drive tat the China Chinese possess make singaporeans look like lazy bums.

Realities of a dog eat dog world ... Western citizens are alreadi the most pampered in the world.
Lolz dunno y i type so much. im bored. Crazy
